I am sure that Andrew knows what, why and how he has to do that 🤠 TH-cam is a great thing, but very confusing and unfair in Algo- quality treatment without changing it... so the users have to react to make it worthy 🫡
Yeah 100% agree. The other one has the name 'workshop' in it. Which sounds like it could be reviews and technical stuff, and this one has the word 'overland' which indicates travel.
Ok. I understand you. However wouldn't you put a video about building and testing stuff on a channel called "Workshop" and videos about an overlanding trip on a channel called "Overlanding"?
I'll watch your content regardless, but agree with others which will probably annoy you, Overland Travel for this channel to showcase your trips; Overland Workshop for builds/mods/project development. What happened to your plane? Any updates?
I've been watching your channel for about 8 years, and I’ve always found it quite chaotic. Some content is here, some on another channel, some on a website, and some exclusively for one type of patron or another. One thing might eventually become available for everyone, while another might not. Take the Range Rover’s Kenning Stock Route, for example. Here, we have a few random episodes, but the rest is hidden somewhere else behind a paywall. The previous Kenning trip was presented as both individual episodes and a single compilation. When it came out, I was like, *Wait, what’s going on here?* Or you’ll build a new project, saying it’s for amazing expeditions, then take it on a 2-day trip and sell the car. There’s a mix of old stuff, new stuff, and reuploaded content, all with similar-looking thumbnails and titles. And now, you’ve decided to do overlanding content in the workshop and workshop content on overlanding channel. Rony Dahl also diversifies his content, but unlike yours, I can easily follow what’s going on with his channel. Sorry if I’m being rude, but your channels feel like you lost all your data, recovered it, and then dumped everything everywhere except into two folders.
I watch both channels anyway but I've got to agree with some of the comments. The Workshop channel, by its name, sounds more for builds, reviews, etc but this channel sounds more the 'doing' the overlanding, showing the adventures, taking the paths less trodden (or driven, in this case).
That sounds like a positive move, especially for people like me who like to watch the very occasional “build” video, (for which I will search if I ever feel like it), but LOVE to watch actual travel/exploration content which is now drowned amongst these reviews, builds blah blah. Kinda sounds like the names of the channels might be transposed, but I get that one is a more established Chanel and so it has to be that way round. Good move, I believe. 👍
I agree that you change channels, only the names (and content) on these channels are wrong, they ar switched…….. it better to use 4xOverland for travels etc. And Overland Workshop for building and working on the 4x4. Who else agrees with my opinion on this??? Greetings from the Netherlands
I'm glad you finally discovered John Cadogen's elusive Dingo Piss Creek. Plus, you've got the water purifier, so there's no need to worry about Dingo piss😅🤭 It seems lovely there😊👍🏻
Probably the only current way to address this weakness in the algorithm. Ironically I only sent a request to TH-cam last week asking that the algorithm shares by playlist rather than by channel to encourage tiny multi interest channels like mine. Best of luck with the change. Obviously I have subscribed to overland workshop, especially since you made it so easy with that clever link at the end.
Adding to the other comments. 1) To link the channels maybe make the other called "4xOverland Workshop" 2) Travel should be on "4xoverland" and vehicles/reviews on "4xOverland Workshop" Makes more intuitive sense IMO. Loving your content either way.
I understand having to split the channel to focus each one on one audience to work the algorithm... But calling the channel with overland adventures, "workshop" makes no sense. The naming is completely opposite, surely reviews of items and building the van would be more of a "workshop" 🤔🤔🤔
I think most enjoy the Australian travelling and story telling and your new car builds. Many are not keen on the African content and maybe you need to ask the question to clarify it.
Subscribed. Actually, it makes sense for me as a viewer too! It will be far easier to plough through all of your past videos to find the information about a certain piece of equipment, tool or even torch/light if everything are neatly in one place. The same will go for the expedition videos too of course. Although, having read other comments, I tend to agree that the content would be perhaps better sorted the other way around. This one for expeditions and the 'Overland Workshop' for builds and projects and general advice and the like. That would be clearer to people who have the misfortune to not have found you yet.
Dear Andrew. What an amazing space to navigate. I really enjoy your content. I can’t say I was overly keen on the photography . I don’t share that passion. Certainly not a criticism of you or your abilities. Troopy owners just love what your inventions are. Innovate improve and make better. It is noticed that your attention to detail is fantastic. Unlike my writing!. You’re most likely on the wright path. With great respect.
I agree with other comments about the naming of the channels seems to be the wrong way around. As a long time follower I’d like to give some constructive criticism about your videos over the last 6-12 months. There have been times when you come across as ‘entitled’ if certain manufacturers haven’t provided something for you to test or use. There seems to be more and more videos of you complaining / moaning about certain things. These videos used to be infrequent and quite entertaining. Perhaps other similar channels have also experienced growth because they have diversified their platform from ‘just another Land Crusier’ build. I get it. You like these vehicles and yes they’re all great. However it’s all much of a muchness now. I am excited for the Hiace build. Something completely new for you and the channel. I hope these words are taken in the spirit they’re meant. Take it easy 👍
I guess you have put a lot of thoughts on this decision... but yet it is very very confusing for the users as 4xoverland is much more suitable for the travel content while Workshop is way more understanding to be for the builds and equipment. I personally do not associate any travel video with workshop, maybe it is good idea to do it the other way round... Cheers!
The HiAce is very interesting and a series I follow. The Troopcarrier, I really doesn’t interest me anymore. Back to the HiAce, you rmneed to take it on a big trip to really test it out.
It never ceases to amaze me how all these consumers of free content feel they have the right to dictate how and where that content is delivered. Andrew is running a business, that facilitates this free content. The explanation was clear- the Africa Travel videos disrupted the ‘4XOverland’ YT algorithm. For ongoing and continued growth- the algorithm is dictating the travel vids must go. It makes perfect business sense to put those travel videos; where they function as a fantastic loss-leader introduction to the world of ‘overlanding travel’- that the Overland Workshop Channel is dedicated to providing, on that channel. Yes, I agree the naming conventions are not technically correct, but to whinge and bitch about such insignificant details… sheesh.
Andrew thank you for the update and continue the amazing content please. We will find you and subscribe. Sincerely Mike and Carolyn your friends from MC Ranch Overland. Cheers and have a great weekend🍻
Production and content are undeniable. When it comes to the exposure I fear it’s a reflection of the people. Your channel is (rightfully so) comparable to a repository, a straightforward organized library of fact. For us dull gentleman, fantastic. However what the channel lacks, as is with many an industry is a connection to young blood and ladies entering the scene. I think you might find fostering an up an coming league of extraordinary overlanders (maybe even ones to carry on the legacy of 4xO) may be the ticket to groundswell whilst preserving the flame of overland adventure for some time to come. Unsolicited two cents 😄
Definitely watched by us older lot, as there is not the wizzbang appeal younger guys are looking for. I really think that there is just so much of the offroad stuff on youtube then only diehards are going to stick with one channel. There’s also the fact that long videos don’t cut it anymore. As with most things these days it has to be short and sharp, 15 - 20min max or even shorter.I’m sure I’m not the only one that skips through to watch only the bits that look good.
I think someone is a little confused. Workshop for builds and 4xO for adventures. But hey..... Nobody can tell you otherwise because you are always right, according to you.
Great idea splitting the channels, if it helps with the TH-cam algorithm it’s worth doing. Personally I was already subscribed to both channels so I won’t miss a thing. A things that confuses me is all these people complaining about “another Toyota build” are they only looking at the badge of the car? I am working on a Suzuki Jimny build and I find most of your build video’s extremely helpful. They give you idea’s on how to do things and also on what not to do - in a good way - “that’s REALY cool, but not for me” is helpful and stops you from making (expensive) mistakes that you regret later Thanks for sharing your wonderful travel stories and your build wisdom with us. Please keep it up, in one way or another.
100% agree, TH-cam requires you to niche down and down and down. I’m sure it will work out for you. The big question is… have you lined that ceiling in your garage yet? 😂
Let me get this straight: a channel with 'overland' in the name will be about gear reviews, and a channel with 'workshop' in the name will be about overlanding?
For me, it doesnt matter where you put your material. As long I can watch it😊 Already double subscriber..I go north in Sweden in january, for real winter in Dmax.
as piotrs said. It's chaotic. some content exclusively on other platforms. Watch that trip there and this trip here. No continuity and difficult to keep up. Just post stuff chronologically. If I'm not sure that I get the latest video I'm giving up.
I’m a fan of both sets of content. The overland trips though are what pulled me in years ago. The builds are interesting but less relevant as I’m an overlander by proxy. I’ve subscribed to both channels of course.
Respectfully disagree. For many years I really enjoy and admire your work. Not alot of recently has interested me. Surely one needs to follow one’s audience. Another Toyota build? Not really interested. A grenadier build? Tested, faulted and tried to it’s limit? Absolutely interested. Low n behold? Half a million views on the grenadier episode. Good luck w new structure, however I think the audience needs to be followed and listened to.
Same. Frustrated though. And won’t be waiting out for shows.. If reading this: Andrew, we love your work. It caters to those that don’t feel the need to bolt 33” mud tyres on, can pronounce all words starting with th in every sentence, are secure in own masculinity and don’t manicure a beard. Ronnie, no offence intended but your grenadier episodes were ruin by those things. So Andrew, there’s a huge gap for your there that Ronnie and all the Joe Rohan wanna be’s just can’t fill. The intellect gap.
Good comment. To be fair, the HiAce could have been any van had it been built with a proper 4x4 system, good clearance, I would build one. It happens to be a Toyota. The Ford is far better looking and more economical. But its not. We take what we can get.
With utmost respect, nothing with IFS does it for me. Biased towards grenadier. When filmed next to a 76, it’s so clear which vehicle has the best proportions and offroad performance - Grenadier hands down. It’s an intriguing vehicle. Being from this place, so over Toyota’s and the crowd that use them. Haven’t Wangara Toyota had enough publicity yet? ;). Your work will always valued bc of how good it is and how unique it is. Still the subject matter has to surely intrigue.
Andrew. I like a lot of your content. Fantastic cameraman and great content. But when you get angry, could you make an angry Andrew one? Lets call it AngryAandrev 7! I love and follow your channel for many years, but hate your rants.
NOT INTERESTED. You aren't big enough for two channels, this channel can hardly hit 10,000 viewsa video. You're going to end up with negative views and subscribers. Either keep it all in one channel or pack it up.
I could never find all the Canning episodes of n this channel so stopped watching it as much as when the Range Rover was bought and transited across Australia. Hopefully new channel can iron all this out.
Good to know i will unsubscribed from this channel and subscribe to the other channel. Hopefully then i will miss all the rants about how bad most of us are because we are not Patreon members.
Time will tell how this works out but regardless well done for seeing an issue and acting upon it. For my mind though, travel videos under ‘Overland Workshop’ feels a little incongruous. Suggest Overland Life or something similar might be better to position the channel. 🫡
Anywhere you go, ill follow you
Overland Workshop sounds more like a channel for builds and 4xOverland sounds more like trips and adventures to me. Just a thought.
Came here to say this. You 'build' in the 'workshop'. I guess it makes sense in terms of getting more numbers to the second channel.
@@chappie143 i feel that is more the aim
+1
I agree with your observation.
I am sure that Andrew knows what, why and how he has to do that 🤠
TH-cam is a great thing, but very confusing and unfair in Algo- quality treatment without changing it... so the users have to react to make it worthy 🫡
shouldnt it be the other way round?? reviews on workshop channel and travel vids on 4xoverland?
Exactly
I agree. The other channel is more about builds, this is more travel. To much Coca-Cola for Andrew.
Naming convention wise, aren't the builds better suited on the other channel and the travel on this? 🤔
Thats the comment I just made.
Yeah 100% agree. The other one has the name 'workshop' in it. Which sounds like it could be reviews and technical stuff, and this one has the word 'overland' which indicates travel.

Will follow wherever..best wishes from Wales 🏴
The Adventure Continues! Looking forward to progress on the van. (give some thought to the NGO market)
TH-cam doesn't seem to know what to show me at the moment. I sometimes think that I must have watched everything I find interesting.
100% agree, TH-cam requires you to niche down and down and down. I’m sure it will work out for you.
The big question is… have you lined that ceiling in your garage yet? 😂
Good. You're welcome.
Will follow u regardless andrew
Good idea. You need to ensure you find the right audience. Just make sure you put links to both channels in every video…
Smart move
Let me get this straight: a channel with 'overland' in the name will be about gear reviews, and a channel with 'workshop' in the name will be about overlanding?
Overland Workshop subscribed waiting for awesome content as always

The Three Faces of Andrew 😎
Yeah, that algorithm has a lot of black holes and grey areas. Just subscribed to your new channel a few minutes ago. Love that banner…
Done. New channel subscribed.
Will the upcoming Zimbabwe trip be on the channel?
ALL travel stuff will be on overland-workshop channel. Not here.
The channel naming convention does not make sense.
… why… workshop??
Have you not got it the wrong way round? Overland workshop should be for upgrades and gadgets and this one for travel.
This is the channel with the biggest viewership. And must offer the most popular content.

you have top notch content ruined by not committing to youtube.
Actually lost interest in the whole 4wd TH-cam stuff for it has become one advertisement
I agree! But not here it isn't. No sponsors.
Do i have to pay 💰 to watch 🤔
