I knew Joe South. You couldn’t find a more down -to-earth man than him. Humble with a good sense of humor.

I never knew him but I assume that his brother dying of suicide messed Joe up mentally ..

This song won the Grammy Award for song of the year in 1970. He was nominated again in 1972 for "Rose Garden". Wrote a lot f hits for others, but "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" and "Don't it Make You Wanna Go Home" are his other classic performances.

Song of the year in 1970? That’s really saying something, given the caliber of music that was being produced at the time. I always liked this song.

Yeah. I always loved the song, "Don't it Make You Wanna Go Home." He didn't do alot of his songs himself but, the ones he did were really good.

I still have this 45!!! My sister and I would play this all the time!!! Back then I didn’t pay attention to the lyrics and really understand the meaning behind it, I just liked the music. But now that I’m older and actually sit and LISTEN to the lyrics, I REALLY like the song more!! It’s amazing how the song still resonates today. Almost more now than back then!

One of the greatest tunes ever made. Brings me back to my youth in the 70s. Words true even today.

I've loved this song since when it was originally released and continually love it to this day.Thank you for doing another great job of breaking down the lyrics.

The irony is that this song was released in August, 1968, and is just as applicable today as it was then. That was the main reason I voted for this song. I've always liked this song, and knowing you are on a quest for knowledge, you would enjoy it.

He was one of my favorites when I was a kid. Still very much enjoy his music. He has a number of really good songs (walk a mile in my shoes - don't it make you wanna go home - down in the boondocks - rose garden - birds of a feather). All great songs.

Also "Hush" (a big hit for Deep Purple) and Yo-Yo (a big hit for the Osmond Brothers).

What a great old song. I remember this from my teens in the early 70s. We had such great music, and so much of it too.

This song has a great message for these days. I think this song should be played more often but that is just me thinking out loud.

Great story, Tasha. An eye-opener for me at a relatively young age was this fact: Lucifer was an angel. None of us knows scripture as well as he does, and he has no problem using it. You have to be careful, and ask the Father for guidance through times like that. God bless you!

Great reaction. Joe South wrote hits for Deep Purple “Hush,” and Lynn Anderson “Rose Garden” among others. Also played electric guitar which was added to Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence” after the original release of the song went nowhere. Quite an interesting dude.

This song was SO BIG when I was a kid lol... it's kinda fell off but I really thought it was gonna become an american standard. Maybe with a rearrangement and new instrumentation. The bones are certainly there. As it is this is only the third best song named 'Games People Play' after Alan Parsons Project and the great Spinners classic.

The reaction you saw, is the reason we know Christ is the one and only way to salvation. Nothing else gets that kind of reaction from both believers and unbelievers. Because "He is The Way, The Truth, and The Life." No one comes to the father, except through me."

I really do like this song, but not Joe South's version. Both Freddy Weller and Jerry Lee Lewis released more upbeat country versions, and I prefer their easy-flowing style to the heavy, driving beat of Joe South's recording.
