That is a beautiful boat that is. Ans what a beautiful setting to fish. It's interesting seeing that power station ans fishing around it. New sub here keep the great videos coming thank you
Thanks, just a little 14 foot Orkney Coastliner but does the job. Your Nab 17 is going to be a cracking boat with all the effort and attention to detail you're putting into the rebuild. Thanks for the Sub Dave
It took me a good six months working on Reel Time before the first launch. She was nowhere near as big a task as you have. It was minor gel coat issues (well some big chips down to glass mat) plus a lot of hand polishing to get the red back to a shine. I've been sub'd to your channel for a while and keep an eye on your progress.
Another nice video Phil showing us what you get up to in your fishing, very different to my fishing, it looked very nice to do that on your boat, nice and calm, and lots of bites to make the day even better, Thank you,
Just love watching the fishing wish I could come along one day fishing with you Phil. Boat looks great and as always big smile on your face. I will pray that one day we might meet. Good luck in all you future journeys.
Thanks 👍. I love being out fishing whatever the weather and I also just want to share the fun of the adventures - hence the channel. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thanks. When the weather is good it's great to get the boat out. Some of the Mackerel were proper chunky. Sea Trout seem to love the warmer water. Cheers
FINE BUSINESS!!! Just home from exhausting day of fishing and here is your video!! We got 4 crab and a lemon Sole. Very windy the past week here! Good fishing to you in U.K CHEERS from Southern Vancouver Island on westcoast Canada! PS Navionics is terrific!!!
Looks like you enjoy your fishing !ive just watched your videos.,Ive a Coastliner with a Yamaha 20hp 4stroke, really love mine and enjoy the benefit of being of a trailor sailor too, brilliant boats.
Thanks Wingmasterjimmy, the Coastliners are in my view fantastic little boats and like you I really appreciate just how easy they are to tow around to different fishing areas. Your Yamaha 20 hp should push yours along nicely. Enjoy the boat and stay safe.
Thanks, I was surprised how good the rod works given the price point. But to be fair I've not had the opportunity to fish with expensive tackle. How did you get on in the Shetland Viking festival?
Quality video, thanks. A skoda yeti 4x4 plus new swinging arm trailer you could launch just about anywhere with a long tow rope if you don't want to put your back wheels in water 😊 ps corkwing is the man for launch sites, sea lochs if sea state no good😊
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. The current Skoda is a great tow car on the road - hardly know Reel Time is behind me. I did have a Suzuki Grand Vitara with 4x4 and low ratio gearbox. Unfortunately the dreaded tin worm finished it off. I follow Corkwing's channel and his blogs are an interesting read too.
Hi Phil, ive just discovered your channel and some great videos showcasing our notth east coast. I run a sea fishing tackle shop in Stonehaven so if you ever think about launching from stoney (it is a sandy slip launch however) and eant some company let me know! The power station at boddham is a cracking mark and great to see so many sea trout around!
Hi, I passed the shop a week or two ago but you weren't open. I'd been to Crawton fishing off the rocks for a Mackerel or two for tea. Unfortunately the seals had other ideas and took the three I hooked. PS I just watched your video. I need to talk to you about my boat safety kit video and raising funds for the lifeboat.
@@anotherangleUK the seals have taken up residence at crawton with the mackerel being there! No worries, if you Google my shop then my phone number is on there. If not I'm open Wednesday to Sunday if you are down my way again.
She is.. but unfortunately I sold her last week and she’s headed up to I believe Berwick upon tweed to be used on Loch Lomond… My old Orkney strikeliner was offered back to me which I owned 7 years ago so I purchased her back. Now getting her ready for the autumn sole fishing..
I'll keep an eye out for Proper Job when I'm over at Loch Lomond. The Strikeliner is a nice boat as well. Hopefully we'll see a few videos of you hauling fish aboard. 🤞
Thanks and it would be good to see the Haddock getting larger (don't tell the trawlers). Gordon is kindly teaching me Doric words so one day I can act as your interpreter. TH-cams automatic subtitles of Doric are hysterical. 😎
Hi Paul, It's an R2/750 roller trailer. I've a video out next Monday sharing my reasons for getting a new trailer. Hope you're getting out on your Coastliner. Phil
Just found your channel and making my way through your library, especially the Northeast Scotland videos and Loch Awe where we’ve had several trips just exploring but not fishing…...love the content so far. We have just started sea fishing with our small inflatable boat (with some reasonable success with the mackies and haddock so far) out of Cruden and Stoney. Where are you and Gordon based? although obviously you aren’t both locals to the same area 😊 My parents were both born at Boddam and the Blue toon, but yet to take the sib out there as the weather on the east coast is seldom suitable when me and my son are free, and we haven’t much experience at sea yet.
I'm glad you're enjoying the channel content. SIBs are getting very popular as they are so portable and easy to launch and recover. The weather (wind) has been a real problem this year. The North Sea isn't a place to be when it kicks off. That said on a fine day it is amazing. I was brought up on the Wirral, Gordon is the local lad.
Hi, I prefer braid on my own boat as I can feel more bites and have less drag from tide. However Gordon likes Mono as the bit of stretch in the line helps keep a fish on if it takes a dive back down. I can see his point. On the fixed spool reel (ABU Garcia 156sw) I'm using 15lbs braid for casting lures (Diawa J braid x8). The Multi's have 30lbs braid. The Leda Icon came pre spooled. My other reel has something called Monster Braid 50lbs (cheap stuff). Hope this helps. Phil.
Hi, The auxiliary is a 2.5 hp Suzuki 4 stroke. Just the right size for the boat. I have had a 4 hp two stroke in the past but it was physically much larger. Cheers Phil
Hi, I advertised the trailer and it sold within a couple of days. It's gone further north in Scotland. I've made a video about my reasoning behind buying the new trailer. Look out for that in a few weeks. I can highly recommend roller trailers. Phil
If you can stretch the budget to get a roller trailer with that swing arm at the rear you'll find it makes a huge difference to the launch and recovery. As always it's down to budget so I hope you find something that suits your needs.
What propeller do you use on the Tohatsu? I have the same boat and engine. I experienced beep alarm going on when slowing down. Happens to often in my opinion. Otherwise the performance and fuel economy is great.
I'm using the standard propeller that came with the Tohatsu when I bought it new. I've not had any beeps or alarms sounding at all. Does the beep come from the outboard or is it something else like a bilge pump alarm?
@@anotherangleUK No its the outboard. According to the manual its overtorque protection. It beeps and shows the red light while power output ist lowered electronically. If the engine is shut off and started again everything is fine. It usually happens when deaccellerating from planing speed especally in a current. The standard Propeller "10" is the second highest pitch in the manual table and therefore intended for light boats. The overall performance is good. I drove 17+kn.
Thanks so much for sharing the information here - hopefully helps all viewers. I wasn't aware of the overtorque protection - thanks for that, I would have been alarmed if it suddenly went off at sea. At least I'm now better informed. I've been out to look at mine (advantages of a boat at home in garage). The only marking on the prop is 10p. I normally carry two anchors, 22 litres of fuel large 12 volt battery and the rest of the fishing gear etc. I generally fish on my own so perhaps the weight aboard is different to yours. The best I have had is 18.5 knts. On a good sea without all the gear I'm sure I'd see a couple of extra knots. To be honest I cruise around at around 10 knts. Perhaps that's why I've not had the alarm go off. I don't have a rev counter so I've no idea if I'm over or under propped. I'm happy so just leaving things as they are. Hope you get yours sorted. Phil
Good to know you still use the standard Propeller. So it should overall match. Weight does not seem to be the issue. I just run a test with an empty boat and its just the same. When slowing down it goes in 'limp mode' I am not talking about break stop just slowing down from planing speed. This would also happen if the propeller pitch is to big. It sometimes happens when displacement hulls surf in heavy seas. It must be some electrical issue and I will contact my dealer. Which is annoying. I personally like slow traveliling but the river Weser about 30km from north sea has a strong current and if my timing does not match the tide I have to go fast.
There also is over RPM alarm which cuts off the spark plugs just as in modern cars. I did not reach such rpm with the "10" propeller which is good. I actually did my bachelor thesis on hybrid drivetrains for boats including a lot propeller theory but without RPM Gauge and different propellers for test runs all the fancy theory is somewhat useless. I plan to buy another propeller with less pitch for testing maybe cheaper aftermarket. It is always a good idea to keep another one on the boat...
Thanks Andrew, I have two GoPro cameras. The footage you were watching here was the Hero 7 Black. It’s quite old now but works fine. The underwater footage was my Hero 5 Black.
