- Absolutely over the moon with my recent capture of a personal best Sea Trout while Fly Fishing, The Fight was completely unbelievable, it took over 10 minutes to land this beautiful specimen. With the stormy weather due to arrive again here on the west coast of Scotland l am glad I managed to get out to wet a line. Hopefully you enjoy the upload

It was the boy and I that came across you on the beach. Well done (again). Great to see the fight it had put up, they really don't like getting caught. Timed it nicely, the weather became completely unfishable within the hour.
Hi Iain, that day I tried catching up with you and the lad after the catch unfortunately I couldn’t find you guys, I really want to thank you and the boy for helping me release the fish, really appreciate that, and yes that weather turned drastically! I walked back to my car absolutely soaking 😂 it was an absolute pleasure to meet you guys, hopefully I see you around the foreshore again, tightlines
We were having a cast in the bit with no fish, just before getting drenched:)
You need to get that line on the reel
Hi David, totally agree with you, my friend Logan is always stressing this point to me
@@theanglingfrontwhen a fish runs the wet line held under your finger jerks, I've lost some good fish like that....
Well done! Lovely seatrout ,just need to hold that pressure on and get that slack line reeled up ,to easy to get taggled and broke .
👏👏
Fantastic showed my other half the excitement of fishing....she wasn't as excited as me but there you go
Thanks Mikey, really appreciate that! And what a buzz you get when you catch 😁
The reason you were struggling to net it was each time you lifted it towards the net you walked forward towards it splashing as you went, thereby spooking the fish. Try standing still, crouch down to reduce your silhouette and slide the fish over a stationary net. Works every time. Also a folding net with a longer handle helps.
Thanks for the advice Jim, will do this next time 🤘🏻🎣
Well done Michael what a belter of a sea trout .
Thanks Tom, really appreciate that mate
Looking forward to this one Michael 👌
Thank you Dougie, really appreciate this 🤘🏻🎣
Congrats Michael, absolute beauty of a sea trout..
Thanks Stio, always appreciate your comments mate, it may not be the biggest but I am personally over the moon as that is my personal best sea trout on the fly, absolutely estatic!! Thanks for watching sir 🤘🏻🎣
What a cracking sea trout and fight!! 🤙
Thanks Ryan, really appreciate it mate 🤘🏻🎣
Great video mate ...well done
Thanks Mikey 🤘🏻
Congratulations Michael, awesome fish, going by the colours it’s probably not long back in salt water. Tickers flies are awesome👍
Thank you Doug, really appreciate this, and it gave my 7wt a good test 😂 and I agree tickers trout flies are absolutely mega, thanks for watching as always mate, hopefully fishing has been good for you mate now the winds are gently dying down
Well done Michael, lovely fish! Did you say you were using a 4lb leader! For sea trout in the sea I'd use 8lb. They are not usually line shy in the salt. Also a good idea to try get the line on the reel as soon as possible. I thought the fish at one point was going to get tangled in your line. You'll remember that fish for a long time!
Thanks mate, really appreciate it, funny story with the line, when I walked the distance to the shoreline my car is parked maybe a mile away? And low and behold I didn’t have my 8 Pound Diawa sensor with me, instead it was 4 Pound kamasan, something that I could have regretted, thankfully it just stayed on, but your Totally right, 8 pound minimum and also agree with you getting it on the reel ASAP my friend Logan is always advising me to do this! Thanks for the advice mate, really appreciated
Lovely , beautiful trout it put up a great fight
Thank you Patrick, really appreciated, and yeah it definitely tested my 7wt fly rod 😁 Thanks for commenting
Absolutely superb, well done indeed 👏👏👏
Thank you Andrew, really appreciated, the adrenaline rush from finally landing it was surreal 😂🎣
@@theanglingfront I'll bet it was!
Good on ya 🎣
Great video, and what a spectacular fish. well done
Thanks Lewis, really appreciate that 🎣🤘🏻
What an excellent fish!! Love seeing those size beauties cutting about the shoreline.
And great effort getting after it in those weather conditions.
Looking forward to getting you out on the boat soon and see what predators are lurking in the West coast depths! 🎣 🔥
Thanks Nic, really appreciate it, and yeah hopefully get the boat out soon again
Holy moly what a fish, and what a fight too. Congratulations.
Thank you very much mate, much appreciated 🤘🏻🎣
Brilliant !! well done
Thanks Gordon, really appreciate this 🤘🏻🎣
Cant wait!!!
That's a sea trout to remember, well played.
Thank you Josh, really appreciated mate 🤘🏻🎣
Well desetved Michael, a belter of a Seatrout on a tricky day.
Thanks Angus, really appreciate that mate
Great stuff 👍
Thanks Robert, really appreciate this 🤘🏻🎣
Congrats! Oh me nerves! Very nice …. Excellent fight, you captured it and live released it to fight another day! 😊
Thanks Mike, appreciate the advice too, as you said before, get it on the reel!! A bit advice said by many which I will incorporate into the next fish I catch by fly, 🤘🏻🎣
Well done sir .stonking brute of a troot as well
Thank you very much mate, really appreciated, and best fight I have had on that fly rod so far, hoping for a few others like this 😁
On you go michael 🎉stunninh fish pal and gave you some run around 🎣🎣🎣cheers ed
Thanks Ed, really appreciate that! And the run around was insane, best fight I’ve had on the fly rod in years 😁
Eye absolutely love your passion for fishing mate a clonker of a sea trout well done brother 🎣👌
Thanks James really appreciate that 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎣
Superb geezer as always. Well done 👏
Thank you very much mate, really appreciate this!! 🤘🏻🎣
Great😊
Thanks Col, appreciate you
That was the most stressful video I've watched in ages!
Cracking fish!
Thanks Dave, really appreciate that, in hindsight I will get it on the reel next time! 🤘🏻🎣
and it has inspired me to get one caught in the salt.
Once the wind stops, obviously.
@@davecosgrove8787 Thats awesome, and yeah I don’t mind fishing in the rain but the wind is absolutely horrendous, tightlines
Lovely fish, well done. Nice to see someone handling them well and not guessing a stupid weight, 4lb odd looks about right. Beautiful colour, always amazes me the variety of colours you get with Seatrout.
Thank you Robert, really appreciated, the only thing I’d change is getting it on the reel but yeah I reckon it wasn’t far away from 4 pound, thanks for the kind comment 🤘🏻🎣
Cracking fish mate 👍
Thank you rob, appreciate that mate
Well done and a bonnie fish! As David says below, if you can get the line back on the reel as a priority you will make life easier. If your drag is set right you will enjoy the runs more and the sound is one of the best in the world! You will also greatly reduce the risk of losing fish. Thanks, really enjoyed that.
Thanks for the tip Andrew, and thanks for the comment, really appreciate this 🎣🤘🏻
What an inspiring video, and well done on landing, and releasing that cracking fish. Now subscribed. Looking forward to more!
@@peternicholas4323 Thank you Peter, really appreciated mate, 🤘🏻🎣
Awesome! Loved it! From B.C., Canada.
Thanks Sam, really appreciate that mate 🤘🏻🎣
My father used to catch some cracking Sea Trout from a mark in Helesburgh and just further up. That was a proper Clash of the Titans, and one you'll remember for a long time :)
Awesome stuff, and thank you mate, was a great tester on the 7Wt fly rod 😁🤘🏻🎣
Some fight that mind! Mint 👍
Thank you mate, really appreciate that 🤘🏻🎣
Now is the time to get the big one , the water is getting warmer and the fish super active . You did brilliant , I might just cut across some days down that way , you’r doing great .
Thanks Nico, really appreciate that, hopefully get to see you down the shore sometime this season,
@@theanglingfront That's the only downside of filming catches, all the winder inners will be heading that way and it will get busier.
Beauty mate 👍
Thanks Iain, really appreciate that mate 🤘🏻🎣
Need to get yersel a line basket bud. Bonnie troot wel done
Thanks Callum, really appreciate that
Cracking fish…get the line on reel man!!
Thanks Paul, totally agree with you mate!! It’s a bad habit that I’ve picked up many years ago!
@@theanglingfront no worries, it must be a trout fishers thing as I used to do it as well until a ghillie on The Dee while I was playing a salmon gave me a right bollocking as I had line all round my waders with the bloody fish screaming up and down the pool!! I did somehow land it but he wasn’t impressed!!😂
What a fish mate brilliant tickers is a great shop to
Thanks Alex, really appreciate that! And yeah I really like his trout flies, there top class!!
Absolutely belting big fish on the fly. Well done man. Yer a braver man than me on 4lb tippet in the salt! Superb fish 🐟
Thank you very much Shaun, really appreciated, and I was astonished when I forgot to bring my 8 pound tippet with me that day! 4 pound is a bit sketchy, for salt water use 😂, thanks for commenting and hopefully the fishings has been good on your end 🤘🏻🎣
Well done, a beauty, you really can't bully them!! Longer handled net if fishing alone maybe?.Cheers.
Thanks Pete, and I agree, the only thing I like about the net is that is small and light enough to carry when I’m moving across the shoreline, but yeah maybe a investment would be worth to get a longer handle, thanks for watching Peter
@@theanglingfront Hi Michael, just a suggestion, they do a similar net with a longer handle that you can still fix to the back of your coat with a magnet, cheers Peter.
@@peterlocke5204 Thanks for the advice Peter, I will have a look, much appreciated
@@theanglingfront Tight lines!!
Asking for trouble with loops of line floating about..get the line on the reel ..thats what it's there for..could have walked that fish to the shore no problem ...nice fish.
Hi Hugh, couldn’t agree anymore, hindsight is a wonderful asset! Definitely a learning curve, thanks for the compliment on the fish and advice 🤘🏻🎣
Thanks for the upload, my smile watching it is nearly as big as yours. Well done for persevering.
As per some of the comments I would defo look to get some line back on the reel and you do need a bigger long handled net, the scoop net made it far more difficult for you and I’d have cried for you if you lost it at the net😂. Check out the Sharps Belmont 20” seatrout net or their seaforth. It clips to your belt or coat loop is easy to deploy and is extendable. Well done again Pal, belter of a 🎣
Thanks rob, yeah I agree with you, definitely need to get into the habit of getting it on the reel, and I wil have a look at those nets, really appreciate the advice rob, thanks for commenting 🤘🏻🎣
👏👏
Thanks Alistair really appreciate it mate
Belter of a fish mate, unbelievable fight!
Thanks as always matey, really appreciate it, and it may not be the biggest Sea Trout but it’s a personal best for me, so pretty happy at that 😁🎣
@@theanglingfront it would be a PB for me too mate, absolute specimen of a sea trout
wow well done mate
Thanks Thomas, really appreciate it 🤘🏻🎣
What a fight that fish is given you nice catch big like from me bud tight lines and catch you on the next video thanks for sharing my friend
Thanks mate, really appreciate it mate
Nice one, I'm going to have a go myself this year with the fly rod. 👍
Thanks mate, really appreciate that, hopefully you get a few this year, tightlines 🎣🤘🏻
Well done bud that was a fish and a half no wonder you were over the moon especially on those conditions you were fishing in a would have looked out the widow and sais mmm nah..lol so well done you won at the end of the day well in
Thanks Scott, really appreciate that, and yeah, what I thought may be a waste time turned out into being totally worth it 😃
@@theanglingfront happy days mate can't wait for more action from you..videos are cracking.. should see so.e good fishing soon once the weather picks up and heats up aswell
@@scottmckean4611 Really appreciate your feedback mate, and yeah, fingers crossed we don’t see those horrible winds again
Lovely fish. Well done! It might be worth investing in a new larger net will extending handle for your next trip.
Thanks mate, really appreciate that, and I totally agree with you!
Beauty Michael and the fight it put up was fantastic. Tight lines from myself currently in California but when I get back to N Ireland I will try that kind of fly on the old bombarda at my local shoreline.
That’s awesome, thank you for the r comment, really appreciated, are you doing much fishing in Cali just now?
@@theanglingfront There is a huge lake about a mile from me called Chabot that holds large mouth bass , golden & rainbow trout, catfish and carp. Fished it in the past a little bit Michael but never landed anything they all got off. I will be doing some sea fishing though very shortly and hope to catch Leopard sharks, Stripper, and maybe Bat rays etc ! Keep you posted buddy. Just before I left for here, back home a huge Sea Bass followed my savage gear inline seeker right to my feet. Roughly in latitude I’m the same across the Irish Sea from you and it’s good to know they are moving up our coastline. Tight lines
@@gonefishingni that’s awesome, hopefully you get the fish the lakes mate, please let me know how you get on, tightlines
Great experience and careful handling, enjoyed that, maybe the wind drew the fish to the shore
Thanks Iain, appreciate that, and yeah good possibility 🤘🏻🎣
Hi, imagine what a 20 pounder would feel like!
ATB
That would be a shock to me mate 😂 maybe one day I will experience a double figure sea trout, would be absolutely amazing
He was driving me crazy with the lack of line control….the fish gods are just waiting to throw a tangle in that line! Let the fish take as much as possible by relaxing your fingers under control or reel in some line while fighting the fish! True … both are risky no doubt but to do nothing isn’t a better choice, imo!
Thanks for the advice mate, thankfully the fish gods were in my favour that day 😁🤘🏻🎣
Use the reel!
Looks good. What set up you got 8wt
Hi James, this is a greys lance 7wt
Why did it weigh???
Hi Dom, I didn’t actually get a weigh of it, I reckon it’s close or just under 4 Pound maybe?
@@theanglingfront still an outstanding fish brother well done 🎣🎣
@@BigDom61 Thank you Dom, really appreciated, i stuck up a brilliant fight, hopefully I can get another one like this 😁
@@theanglingfront that could be a fish of a lifetime but you never know 👍👍
Was the reel broken?
😂😂 No mate, i stupidly decided to bring it in without
W ell done some battle to get it in, it might have been helpful to fight the fish on the reel.Let it take a few runs to tire itself out
Thanks mate, and I totally agree with you, I have a bad habit of bringing fish in without the reel, thanks for the advice mate 🤘🏻🎣
Cracking video, and Troot.👍 Hope you don't mind me saying I've never seen a Sea Troot that colour, any chance it was a Slob Troot? Either way you got the sport out of it, well done.👌
Hi mate, yes it’s a slob trout! It’s not long been in the salt water from the river, I really like the colours on them personally and the fight was tremendous! Thanks for commenting really appreciated 🤘🏻🎣
What weight rod were you using? Lovely fight in it
Hi mate this is a Greys Lance 7WT rod mate, this fight definitely tested it for sure 😁
So!When's your twenty foot landing net handle being delivered?Joking aside wonderful fish well done 👏
😂😂 Thanks Nick really appreciate that, starting to think I should just duct tape a broom handle to it 😂😂
great catch - but please get it on the reel much faster - that slack line all lying in a heap in the water was driving my OCD mad lol. Just trap the loose line under your pinky and wind the slack onto the reel asap. Raising the rod behind you while keeping the net in the water will make landing easier also. So happy for you that you got it though - what a fish!
Thanks mate, and yeah your right, i panicked 😂
@@theanglingfront nah you did great - a lot would have lost it - did well to land that beauty on the light gear. GRATS!
@@5RustyBin Thanks man, appreciate your kind words, if I ever get into that situation again, I will 100% get it on the reel as soon as it’s hooked 🤘🏻
Where u fishing pal
Slob trout, sea trout going in and out of the estuary, hence brown as well, do you have that name on them too
Yes mate, we call it slob trout also, love the colours on them,
Why didn’t you reel in all of your line instead of leaving it in a heap on the surface and risk having your fish get tangled in it?
Don’t try to net a fish unless part of its head is out of the water; be patient.
Cracking fish. I fish the head of Loch Fyne and its been very quiet this year so far. One tip if i may. Get yourself an extending net, you'll land them much quicker. Tight lines
Thanks Ewan, really appreciate that, thanks for the advice also, 🤘🏻🎣
Nice fish,pity about the blasphemy.
what are the rules do you need a licence to fish in that location i live in brisbane australia ,i am originally from around the ythan estuary i know you pay to fish that estuary what about the open beach i am coming home in june so a few days fly fishing is on the cards
Hi Les, yes you need to purchase an Estuary permit to fish for Sea trout at this location! However if you are targeting any other species that isn’t Sea trout you do not need to buy a permit, I take it you do alot of decent fishing in Australia mate?
Well they waders are gonna smell of pee for a while. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 So true red, wasn’t sure if it was the rain or the dribble that was soaking my waders 😝 thanks for watching as always, hope the fishing as been good on your end bud
@@theanglingfront Its still to take off down here mate. Very slow going just now but as the weathers improves so will the fishing. I just need to get the time off to get out. Good up the good work.👍
I kept yelling get that line on the reel watching this. Fortunately, for you, it wasn’t that big of a fish.
Fair enough Robert! It was a big enough fish to put a smile on my face, that’s all that counts for me 😁 Thanks for commenting
Belter
Cheers AC really appreciate it 🤘🏻🎣
Great film and fight... thanks for sharing it with us. Just a suggestion in these sensitive days...perhaps a little less taking the Lord's name in vain? That would mean a lot to those of us who still love him. Thanks
No Problem, thanks Phillip really appreciate the feedback 🤘🏻🎣
Cracking fish welldone . But please make your life easier by purchasing a proper Sea trout extendable net with at least a minimum of 22inch diameter frame and mono or fluorocarbon of minimum 8lb test . Sea trout can grow to double figures . I've caught them to 8lb and my father had one of at least 14 lb . If you lose a fish of a lifetime due to net or mono . It will haunt you for the rest of your life .
Appreciate the advice mate, normally where I fish the sea trout are usually relatively small, occasionally you will get the odd bigger one which is why I use that calibre of net and line.
I was stressing watching that because of the loose line, I knew you caught it because of the title. Just spine the wheel of your reel in fast, with the palm your left hand, or you are going to regret it one day with a big fish on. Well done tho on a great catch on a terrible day for it. Is that the Clyde estuary.
I do agree with you on that, I need to get into the habit of putting it on the reel, and yes mate it is, thanks for the advice mate, really appreciate it
