I live in a one bedroom apartment about 700 square feet. I use to keep all my art supplies in my living room but it was always messy. I use to have a double bed, down from a queen size, which I don’t really need although my cat might disagree. Anyway I moved down again to a twin bed which gives me more room. I moved my coffee table and art cart into my bedroom so I have a corner that is my studio. Sometimes I like to work in the living room so I move some of my supplies to an end table next to my recliner. I also have an adjustable desk easel which I love. I love my set up but always looking for ideas. I’ve also tried many mediums. I always go back to color pencils but still playing around with pastels.
Wonderful.. talks on artistry.. love these tutorials.. frequency of work.. staying focused.. being around artistic peers.. sensitive to the rhythm of creativity. Take a break… breakaway from dead weight .. time is cherished..an item we can’t get back..these people are authentic and work.. great fun..
Table? Desk? Spare room? Sofa? Lol. Don’t have enough space for any of those here. No outdoor space, garage etc either unless you count my parking space - but I doubt the other tenants of my building would appreciate my setting up an easel there between their cars. What I do have is a bedroom that just fits my bed, clothes and some art supplies. And my main room (livingroom/kitchen) with just enough space for two chairs, my microwave, stove, mini fridge, and my sink. Haven’t been able to do any oil or acrylic painting since moving here, but I am slowly setting up to pull out the water colors or pastels. Something small enough I can hold on a tray on my lap. Then set aside when it’s time to eat or do anything else. My pastels are now set up, easily accessible, in small drawers beside my chair. Good tips on lighting. As I go about getting myself set up to do some sort of art in this tiny space, I am enjoying the inspiration I get in your videos.
When there's a will, there's always a way! I think a lot of it is about having a set up that allows you to relax and create, or make a mess, whatever it is you need. I would hang plastic sheets on the wall when we were renting places so I didn't have to worry!
Ihave a sturdy, small table set up in the corner of our small living room - have made a cozy small studio & it works well 4 me. I use a table easel to hold my iPad &/or any reference material I am painting from- have good movable head light that has adjustable spectrum light. I dream about a small studio w/ north windows - however my corner workers very well! Thank you for sharing
Sounds perfect Linda! There’s always the studio of your dreams, but a space to draw in is better than none at all 😊 if you can crack lighting and storage, life becomes much easier!
Light.. space.. tools keeping them.. all together..an emergency clutch of materials will give you great returned products and home is wonderful for Perkins rose drawings.. beautiful show roses… tea roses and floribundas..bouquets what woman doesn’t love roses..hand grown..handle with care.. artistic couples who love the arts.. gifted at so many creations. Thank you.
If you wanted to separate your greys in the bottom drawer of your pencil drawers, you could install a piece of cardboard or boxboard vertically along the centre of the drawer and tape it to either end so that it divides the drawer in two. The side of a cereal box or something similar would work, and you could cover it with any kind of paper to cover the printing, or put two pieces back to back so only the grey inner surface of the box is visible. Lovely video. Thank you!
I feel you. My condo is set up the same yet I’m determined to create a small home studio and make it work. I can use my large balcony during the summer and work form there for now also during the day. Looking forward to become a full-time artist myself. You look great with your hair too. ❤
Thank you for your help all of you are so supportive.. honest and generous.. lovely relational teaching of the different levels and forms of visual arts. The gift .. treasured teachers.
I would say you're much better off without the art degree, Duncan! If you're wanting to create and make then you have full license to do it however you please :)
I have the space for it now, but the problem is moving out all of the boxes and organizing it - when we moved here, the garage had a massive flood in it (and it's flooded twice) so though in theory there is plenty of space, I've not been able to get it sorted out properly since there was no where to put the boxes that was dry - and as we are only just moving into spring, it's not been warm enough/dry enough in there to move things as I don't want the items in the boxes to get damaged with damp and mould. I need to get some bookcases in there, too so that I can organise what is left of my books that need sorting. I collect jars for storing pencils, markers, brushes, and for water to clean brushes - I don't understand why people spend a lot of money on fancy storage for them when jars will do.
I consider myself lucky I have my whole attic as a art studio ive been working on. I'm multi media so i need the space. I have a reading nook there too.
@@emilyrosewildlifeart-paste9820 I felt like Harry Potter at my Dads house I had a mini art studio in my closet XD I only Had enough cloths to fill a dresser anyways XD Minimalist on cloths but Art supplies when you wana try everything was more important XD I cant wait till its done its gonig to be like a hobbit hole mixed with hufflepuff commons a touch of narnia too and some of my favorite fantasy places
As the whole point of the video is an explanation of how to make the best use of a small space to do one's art, then of course there is talking! What an odd thing to criticize. 🤔🤦
Yes the wardrobe space is a great idea!
Thanks Ella! I find it so useful to keep paintings and spare frames safe :)

I put a sheet on my living room floor and did several oil painting s that way. I put my easel in my small kitchen and painted there.
