wow, this is truly a great compliment coming from you! thank you. I could never find a video like this so I made one myself. There's another similar video here on my channel.
I can't believe how much content you covered in such a short span! I especially appreciate the hanging hardware portion of your video - I'm a custom framer and will definitely be utilizing your tips whenever possible.
I recently began my creative journey so as not to go bonkers during the pandemic and turned one of our spare bedrooms in to a nice studio for myself and your tips are so helpful! Your work is just amazing and so unique!
I can’t thank you enough, Chase! I am definitely taking your advice to heart and applying a lot of it to my studio. “Invaluable” is my word today and that is what you are for your sharing, caring, creative spirit. Thank you!
The thumbprint is brilliant and I’m stealing it. I work on paper right now, though I will paint on canvas if I can buy them on sale, but still developing my style. And yes, I get paint everywhere, so I need a space in which a mess is acceptable. You have an efficient system and organized studio. Thank you for sharing.
I admire how devoted you are in attention to the space and the handling of your art once it is created. As I move into art as a full-time career I will refer back to this. Thank you.
I live in a tiny one bedroom unit in Tassie and I have a corner measuring 1800 x 1200, for my desk, and an easel. That’s all my work area. Some space in the lounge which is the same room for a bookshelf. It’s been super frustrating but I’ve carefully selected furniture that is practical and fits. Took a while. My wardrobe houses some art material and the paintings, folders etc are behind the curtain in lounge. Going to buy some drawers for drawings (need to find space) and that’s all I’ll be able to house. Thank you for this video, seeing how other artists set up helps me and appreciate you making this video. G’day from Australia! 😀🖼🎨
Thank you for the great tips. I especially appreciated your idea of putting a thumbprint on the back of your work. Years ago one of my former professors, Karl Kasten, had been asked by one of his collectors to help authenticate some Jackson Pollock paintings on chipboard that he had been offered at a good price. I begged Karl to avoid the task as Pollock is possibly the most counterfeited artist of all time, and instead I was dragged in to assist. We were able to verify two out of the several paintings in the group partly by stray fingerprints that matched those found in Pollock's studio, but it seemed the seller had gotten greedy and added several fakes to his offering - The chipboard used was not available during Pollocks lifetime. I had returned to Los Angeles when the drama in the Bay Area played out, but in the end Prof. Kasten retained his good reputation. For me it was a frightening situation but even at 91 years of age Karl was sharp and fearless.
Thanks for sharing. I feel adding the stamp and fingerprint helps authentication in the future. Have you seen the British show "Fake or Fortune"? Check it out.
Haven’t heard of it and will check it out. Are you familiar with Han van Meegeren? He painted excellent forgeries and had to create one during his trial for being a Nazi collaborator to prove the Vermeer he’d traded to Herman Göring was actually one of his fakes.
Thanks! Keep the informative videos coming! :) Especially liked the tips around making photographs in multiple angles and also a short video. Would like to see more information on the behind the scenes stuff, like finances / keeping your administration in order / what to document, etc.
Galleries and collectors appreciate lots of images that help them get a better look at a painting that isn't available for them to see locally. My galleries will pass on these images to clients to help them decide if they want to acquire the work. Doing a short video is also super helpful. Be super attentive to all details of a sale: pricing, shipping, all details about the art, the gallery and collector info.
Thank you so very much Chase. All you discussed, whilst showing us the physical aspects,is extremely informative and valuable.I truly cannot say enough about this recent tutorial, and will most surely share.Your word is wonderful and so resonates for you. My word this year is devotion. (No distractions!). Once again, another glimpse into your tremendously fab process.
Straight forward, practical, informative and a intricate display of artistic organization, process, and information, recording, and accounting. Along with helpful tips on essentials - I especially like the fingerprinting. I’ll be at work which is what I will be doing with mine. This has been the most helpful video. I have seen on how a professional artist performs behind the scenes. Thank you so much for this! ♥️
Excellent tips! GLUE the two telescoping box halves together. I had a piece delivered to me in a two-part telescoping box taped together. Somehow, pressure was applied to one end of the box, and the tape joining the two gave way. The piece was crushed and destroyed in the now smaller box. GLUE, GLUE, GLUE. :)
Due to the pandemic I was forced to convert my spare bedroom into a home office. Now that I have an option to work both at home and in the home office I was deciding on pushing the home office into a more creative-inspired environment ... as you so well put it a space that will "Elevate" me! All your studio tips are the best advice I heard so far. Thanks!
Some excellent tips. Thank you! I am an emerging artist, about to hang my first paintings in a show and about to attach the hanging clips and wire. I was going to do it the way you suggested for the reason you suggested, so this was confirmation that I am on the right track!
It's really nice to see an artist's studio , of course the creative spark is essential but as illustrated in your Vlog , practicality is just as important .
Thank you for your time and suggestions. They are so helpful and inspiring. I use a quote “Follow in the direction of your dreams, by Henry Thoreau. I am not as organized with labeling, I am going to try to implement that practice. I lost my large studio, I now have a much smaller studio. I may have lost space but my new studio seems to hold a lot of peace, my visitors come in, sit in my comfy chair and say “I feel like I can just close my eyes”. I feel the same. Thanks again!
Wow, the production quality, thought, and care put into this video really shows!!! So grateful that you have taken time to make this and share your knowledge with the world!
Thank you so much... I have been painting for as long as I can remember, and your advice has opened my eyes to a lot of things I have been doing wrong and a few things doing right. I am in my second apartment studio which is a loft I am so happy and I am hoping better for me to succeed more now than before. With your advice, I will elevate my work. Thank you again.

Chase thank you so much for your advice and great tips. I love your way of thinking. The word Elevate says so many positive things. And it does lift you even to say it it gives a sense of freedom and growth and everything that's good. The locking castors is a brilliant idea. And I love a place that's light and airy, whether to live in or paint in, I can't stand dark rooms. The brighter the better for me so I love l your white studio. Thank you I appreciate this video. God bless 👍🙏🕊😀Susan
