Velour is really gorgeous with colored pencil, too. Most CP artists know Pastelmat does a great job, but are sleeping on how beautiful this is.

Hi there is tracing paper/geaseproof paper the same as crystal paper?

Hello Emily I really enjoyed watching this teaching. I have one question, how do you fix the flaw in the paper? There is a line that goes from the top of the eye to the bottom of the eye. You don’t see it in the eye just above and below it. I know that is the paper. But it causes you eye to go to it. Thanks Nina

Why say your books are free when it asks for money!

It's very difficult to remove pastels from valour, once down they stick. So pastelmat more flexible imo.

I’ve always done swatches since I began art! I do them on each paper for each medium I use. My original reasoning is because the pencil often looks different than the color it actually ends up being. But later found it to be so helpful with color picking

I am looking to start but only have a pack of Derwent pastel pencils, however you have said you don't recommend to learn with these. Should I purchase a different set or it will be ok?

Yes, I think that is true of a lot of types of pastels, oil pastels included… So many different types of consistencies and textures, and they all have their place somewhere I used to think I was looking for just one type of texture, but realized I needed a range Would be interesting to know in what order you would prefer the different consistencies and for whatpurpose in your paintings :-) thank you for the review!

as a legally blind person, I don't see the colours that you do in the photo, so it helps to know there are actually other colours there besides the dominant ones. Enjoyed your video very much, thank you for sharing

Velour looks more realistic. I've used it 3 times now and I want to be negative because pastelmat is my go to paper. But every time velour surprises me how quickly it comes together. I use NuPastel, stabilo and Rembrandt and they all work beautifully and fur is so life-like

Why didn’t you use fixative, and leave it on the wall in your studio? . Such a shame.

I think I might of gesso the MDF and use pastel on top, have you been to the Munnings Museum in Dedham, I went as a kid but will go back this year I think. your picture was beautiful and I think it is good when artists show when it all goes wrong. As its easy to think that it is always perfect and easy if you watch too many youtube videos and that the beginner is at fault when it all goes wrong, rather than it goes wrong for everyone some times and there are still important lessons to learn in trying to push through rather than give uo. I feel you deminstrate that really well.
