- Come join me as I pick up some new items for my art studio from IKEA. It's a fun haul with a mix of storage, organisation, and decorative items. I also run through some of the tried-and-tested IKEA products that have been staples in my studio for years. I've accumulated quite a few things, and I am grateful for how they have helped me organise my art supplies and make the most of my various studio spaces.

I have an art pantry on the back of the kitchen pantry and I have used IKEA’s plastic shoe holders for storing A4 paper printed and recycled. I also have their hanging containers and bags for brushes and paints. Then I have Bunnings screw and nail storage for collages cutouts. Perfect for apartment art work.
I also have a trolley for stencils and printing materials.
Oh and I’ve used their sliding panel blinds to cover it all up 😂
Sounds like a great set-up! Love the idea of using a panel blind to make it neat as well. It's so fun to hear how other artists make their space work for them. Thanks for sharing!

LOL I love how within the first 30 seconds of the video, the small little drag behind cart becomes a full big shopping cart. Ikea is so addicting 🤣
Great video! I also have a combination of old and new. Old sewing kits are so perfect to organize pastels. Would you consider showing us some of your favorite older furniture/organizational pieces? Antiques + art supplies seem like a match made in heaven 💚
I have seen old sewing kits that look amazing for pastels; I must keep an eye out for one. And yes, I will look at making another video with the vintage/thrifted items that I use in the studio. Having both is the best imo! New and old.
Hi. That was great to watch. My best IKEA discovery was the BROR utility cart. I love how smooth the wheels are and I actually changed the height of the midsection shelf. I absolutely love working on it and being able to move it around the place.

I bought IKEA stuff for my art studio classroom. It is so small I had the think “up”. I have shelving and those same modular wall mounted board systems for each of my centers. Thank you for showing us your space.

Fun to see all of your goodies! I have two trolleys similar size as yours that I got on Wayfair. (I'm in the US and I have been calling them kitchen islands!) I have them back to back as you mentioned and it gives me a nice workspace with tons of storage. Mine have stainless tops which I like for encaustic work.
Great to see … I have a whole run of the low IVAR units with a broader plywood top in my studio. Got to move it all today as they are installing heating! Might take it as an opportunity to review layout and organisation- I just use shoe boxes for paint tubes!
Hi Alice! Lovely to see you here. The IVAR shelves are great. Worth taking them down, though, to get your heating put in. Heating/cooling was one of the first things I put in my studio. I listened to your ART Juice episode recently, I think it was the studio secrets one. I had to laugh, as I am one of those artists who treats their studio like a home. It has to be cosy, plenty of plants, books, etc. Otherwise, I never go! Oh, and nothing wrong with shoe boxes-a great way to re-use them!

I bought myself a few months ago another type of trolley from ikea. the ine that's rectangular and higher.

Enjoyed tremendously. While we have 2 IKEAs within reasonable driving range from my home, the traffic and hassle of getting to them has kept me from doing the exploring I used to love doing. All the furniture (drawers/carts/table) in my studio is IKEA, I love how easy they are to clean.
Big yes to that! I agree; most things from IKEA are very practical and timeless in design. They scrub up well even after years of use.

Yes the drawers fit A2, that is what I meant to say in the video but my mind went a bit blank!! I often work in A3 and have two pads side by side.

Oh, that's a lovely comment to read. Thank you! A while back, I did a vlog (it's the puppy one) and in that vlog, I shared a few paintings that I had purchased. Laura, thanks for showing us your art container haul from Ikea. I am a big fan of Ikea when it comes to storage for my art stuff, especially the trolleys. You can never have too many trolleys. They are wonderful. Wish you a lovely week ahead.

It really is! I was surprised at how many IKEA items I have and there were a few things I forgot to mention. So many handy things at IKEA. Both Richie and I love going and picking up random things we didn't realise we needed in our lives 🤣

What a LOVELY art studio! 👍🌟👍 I'm Swedish and one place I can never get my husband to is Ikea!! Today it's one of the biggest holidays here, Midsummer's Eve.🌿🌻 We're at our cottage, very near where Ikea first started years & years back, Älmhult.

Sweden is one of my top places that I want to visit!! I find it funny when I watch Swedish TH-camrs and see so much IKEA everywhere in there homes. I can understand not wanting to go there, but gosh, it has been a welcome gift over here in Australia, as we don't have anything quite like it and there are so many wonderful products that have creatives in mind. I love the apron so much and it is even better now that I know what the name means 🦋 Thank you!

I love your studio set up and the vintage pieces add so much! Your new items will find their use and own space, I am certain! My current studio space is in the living room of my apartment and I am full up on what furniture will fit and allow easy access. I have had that Alex unit in the past and I wish I had room for one, now, but it will have to wait until I have my next space.
Thank you! I agree, I feel like the vintage pieces give it a homey feel, but I don't think I would want it to be all vintage. There's something clean and fresh about IKEA pieces that I enjoy too, plus they certainly are functional! All the best for your next creative space when it comes :)

Thanks for sharing your haul, love ikea ideas for. My studio. One idea to share with you that I used for my studio, I purchased the Bror bench which is black metal and a wood top. I used a small propane torch and burnt the top to pull out the grain in the wood. It looks amazing (also smells
Wonderful while doing it) . Let me know if you’d like a photo of it I can def send one . Adds so much character and hides any marks I make while working. The more I use it the nicer it looks!

I have the white set of drawers and love it for pads of papers and sketchbooks. I saw it on one of your earlier videos before you moved your studio. I absolutely love that mirror on wall. probably not IKEA. Looks great. And the antique chest is stunning.

Hi Jessica, I haven’t tried stacking them but I think I’ve seen it done. They are very sturdy. Maybe if you search it up, you might find an answer in an IKEA forum online.

I love Ikea's trolleys, extremely functional and easy to move where you want them...and holds lots of things🙂. I must say I love the look of the kitchen trolley...hmmm. Thanks Laura
They are so practical! I've been living with the wooden trolleys for a bit now and I have to say, I am so happy with them. I am glad that Richie talked me into getting them. I was a bit on the fence, but he knew they would work well. They hold so much stuff but they have a pretty small footprint and are fairly easy to maneuver. They are also sturdy when stationary. All in all, a win for sure!
This was so great to watch. I’ve been so curious about how other artists use ikea items. I love the Alex drawers! They are perfect for watercolor pads, paper, and other art supplies. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the pegboard!
Thank you, I agree - I'd be lost without my Alex drawers, I have another set in my office. So incredibly handy, I can't think of a better way to store my papers!!

@@LauraHornArt I think once you've been there, even if you aren't interested in their home furniture, there are so many other great buys there! There are so many organizational and inexpensive options. We lived in Germany for 12 years, about 5 kilometers from our first Ikea, and we went there a lot!!! Enjoy your next trip there!

You have such a good eye for what will work for you. You've given me some great ideas, so thank you for offering us this video. I do have a question for you, please. Can you tell me how you have the clips adhered to your wall for hanging pictures? I think that's a wonderful idea and would like to do that as well. Perhaps you simply use sticky foam pieces of some sort. Would you clarify that for me? Thanks so much, Laura. Thank you Pia for such a lovely comment. I just hang the art pieces using bulldog clops on little nails that are tapped into the wall. I am pretty sure Richie found the studs so it was easy to nail in, but you could use dry wall hooks or adhesive hooks (especially if you are just hanging light paper pieces).

I find thrift/charity shops great for art furniture and storage as well. Though even those can be expensive these days. I still find that IKEA has many super affordable and practical items. They seem to cater to many different price points, which is great.

I have those wooden trolleys also! They've been used for many things. Ikea is wonderful. But speaking of pegboards ... Bunnings hardware has the best item I have ever found for my workroom - it's the Pinnacle workbench 1.1 metre wide with a pegboard at the back with high metal storage tray running the length. They are beyond fabulous, especially for the price. I painted the work surface and pegboard on all of mine ivory. The metal frame is black powdercoated, very clean and minimalist. One is for my small woodwork and another two are joined together to create a film pod for stop motion animation, with the overhead storage tray providing track space for the cameras and lighting. Another has paint tubes on clips hanging on the pegboard. I love how they look. They are very adaptable benches and easily assembled. Just a thought for any creatives out there looking for work benches! Who would think of Bunnings for studio furniture! (I don't work for Bunnings and hope it's okay to mention them here). Thank you, I often get asked about lighting. For the most part, I use natural light, but I am considering getting some studio lights for those darker days and evenings during the winter. The other day I couldn't really paint because it was such a dark day and it was frustrating! Some daylight task lamps would be really helpful.
