So, there are a handful of people you can actually save, including Zane who is canonically still alive. You just have to flag them every time you get the option, and they'll be banned before the Mindcrash. John was so aggro against Tim when Tim even said the Mindcrash wasn't real lol.
Regarding Y2K, an awful lot of work and money - many, many billions - went into "Y2K proofing" by updating or replacing existing systems to ensure a smooth transition, and those measures were successful to the extent that no serious errors occurred. It was not a myth, a joke, a false scare, or otherwise never a real problem, although public perception was highly overblown and sometimes weirdly ignorant. My father was the senior programmer at a mid-sized IT consultancy at the time.
As my partner likes to say, a lot of people worked really hard to ensure that nothing happened (their father was also one of the programmers that worked on preventing issues).
Every time I see the system connected to your brain crashing I cringe a little. Just the thought of having something like this happening to me makes my feel anxious.
The Beefbrain stuff is freaking me out too. It sounds like the kind of medical thing that could be real while being dismissed as a conspiracy theory until enough people suffer from it.
Y2K was not nothing! It got overblown for sure, but there were real concerns about how computers would handle it. The reason it was "nothing" in the end was that a lot of programmers worked hard to fix most of those issues before it happened, so then people just kind of forgot about it.
This game is so unique and amazing to me. I'm an older IT guy, who lived through this time and wow.. I got to play this. I bet there is so many hidden things here.
It makes sense they'd incentivize browsing Counselor Ronnie's page since he's a Hypnosoft employee the kids are supposed to trust if they have issues on the site.

I wish we could get some cool forums or the ability to customize your home page these days equivalent to Hypnospace. All the social media just feels so bland compare to before how you could customize your home page. (Remember when you could customize your channel theme on TH-cam?) Just watching you play this game makes me nostalgic in being part of such forum. (And I had to deal with Miiverse closure and removal of customizations like on TH-cam so it might be hitting close to home.😅)
I was told that Y2K was all about how when the computers switched to 2000, they wouldn’t understand it was 2000 and instead go back to 1900, and that computers knew they didn’t exist in 1900 and would shut down forever. Source: god only fucking knows I was 12. Edit: my first thought when John played the weird Outlaw car game was that it was remarkably similar to Dylan’s game that also crashed the headset… I’m totally hooked on this story lol
I think the reason as to why the Outlaw car game looks so similar to Dylan's is because it is the same game and was updated in the 2000's update. We just didn't see it before the mindcrash happened.

Anyway, I remember that at the end of last year, they did an AMA and said they had revised their account-recovery protocols. Yes! John became the Squisherz hero! Loved the rap. So much good music and everything made me nostalgic. Both the good and bad kind lol. I really like the last bit of the game, since you could just browse freely. They made so many pages. Like a mini internet bubble.
I love all the stories in this game! Cory's updates from "I have a girlfriend" to "tell me your ideal partner, like is Zane your type?" to "no gf/sorry I lied about having a girlfriend." I know he pestered Tiffany, but given that Zane was hacked with messages about dating Cory, I wonder if Cory was processing some Repressed Feelings™ and then got outed or something. And that's only one person's little timeline! I think Tim was framed tbh. Dylan was shady from the start, and it was _his_ update and "game" that actually crashed everything. (I've not finished the video yet)
You can't log into your old neopets account because they deleted all inactive accounts a few years ago or something. I only know this because I tried to get into my old account too.
Mine still seems to be up, but I used a Yahoo account way back when and Yahoo deleted all inactive email accounts so I had to make a new Neopets account. I didn't rly have any rare ones anyways.
@@StraytheSkies I just looked into it again and apparently they have "purges" of inactive accounts every two years or so. If an account is inactive for 18+ months, it is eligible for "the purge". I hadn't touched mine since 2005 or so, so its luck ran out.

I don't think you can change anything about Tim's fate, but if you flag and get Zane banned before solving the Mindcrash case then he isn't one of the victims. I believe Zane surviving is also 'canon', since the spinoff FPS game Slayers X is 'made' by Zane. I don't think any of the other victims can be banned there though, since I don't think flagging Tiff then would do much.
this really is a game you can get lost in for hours lmao also how on-brand for this developer to casually throw in something really sad in an otherwise cute wholesome funny game 🥲 in dropsy i bawled my eyes out when you find and bury the little birdie's mom, and when the antagonist turns the cute animal entourage into scary mutants (even though they recognized dropsy and still loved him 😭💕) and here they really have u go from cringing and laughing at silly teenager myspace antics to having them die in their sleep from compromised headband tech 🥲 i still love this game so much but wtf 😭 poor tiff she never deserved this ;(

I bought the game on my switch and it was on sale! I know it would be more fun on the computer like more immersive but my moneys too tight rn to buy a new laptop lol. Thank you so much for showing this game to us! I’m so sad about the deaths esp the teens like they had so much left to experience. I can’t wait for the next part!
I'm really bad with names, so I want to make sure I have this right: Zane and Jessica are the same person, I get that. But didn't Corey also have a story about dating Jessica and then breaking up with her? So is Corey also Zane? Zane made up a person to make fun of on his page? Or did Cory say his girlfriend was a different name that I'm getting confused with Jessica? Finishing the Squisherz quest was completely worth it XD
So there were four pages total. Zane, his girlfriend, Corey, and his girlfriend. If you look at the headband I.D.'s you'll see that Zane and his GFs are the same, and Corey and his GF's were the same. Their pages were hacked by Tim on NYE, so anything they said that day was from Tim getting revenge on them for harassing her.

You skipped a whole load of detective work when you looked up a walkthrough, that's why the solution seemed so complicated and obtuse. I can see why you wouldn't want to spend too much time on that sort of gameplay in an unedited video, especially since you felt stuck and thought you were only inches away from the solution.
When John wondered about the main game being named after that driving mini game, I remembered that the first iteration of it crashed Hypnospace. The only reason I can think of for the main game to be named after that mini game is if the mini game is related to the deaths somehow. Abigail Writes is one of the cars you chase, maybe if you can get further into it, there are six different cars named after all the people that die? EDIT: And the computer did download that mini game right before the big crash.
