- In this video, I am creek crappie fishing 2024! I am back at the beaver dam! I am kayak creek crappie fishing with jig and bobber for some more MONSTER Texas Creek crappie! Winter creek crappie is one of my most favorite times to catch crappie in the creeks and a simple jig and bobber setup gets the job done. These beavers have created a serious DAM to block the crappie and bait fish from getting up the creek. Beavers are important part of an ecosystem. They keep areas from going into full drought. They also float the big logs and that's how they move them.

Yeah, beavers know how to drop the tree so that in lands in or close to the pond...then they just float the log down to the damn.
And then sometimes they build other dams below the main dam, forming smaller ponds there....that way they can drop trees into those ponds and then push/float logs UP to the main dam.
And you'll sometimes notice little canals radiating out from the ponds...those canals are actually dug by the beavers, so they can put logs into those canals and then float the longs to the pond.
Amazing animals.
One thing I find Insane about beavers
Is that the react to the sound of running water and that moves them to make dams! It’s crazy!!

Just cleaned 20 black crappie and 5 huge bluegill. Tonight they will feed 8 people and have lots left over.

I want crappie! I've only caught 2 in as many years. They taste great, but I want more, lol. We live in Missouri, with mostly shallow lakes and ponds. No boat, we fish from shore. But I don't think I have ever seen an actual beaver damn in person.

Another note:
Sometimes people will destroy beaver dams because they fear the beaver dam will dry up the creek below the dam...
That does not happen. Beaver dams do not block water flow----they only SLOW water flow, allowing the water to pool up behind the dam and form a pond. Beaver dams are mere speed bumps for a stream, not a stop.
Beaver dams and ponds are awesome for the environment. Their ponds create a great environment for fish, birds and other wildlife. And the ponds help fight drought and recharge the water table.

As always awesome video brother! Do you find that fish hunker down in deep holes on the creek when the morning have been right at freezing temperatures? And in that situation is the jig and bobber still a good technique or so you switch to vertical jigging?
All depends on what the bait is doing. I have still caught crappie 1-3 foot deep even when temps are near freezing or freezing! Thanks for watching! God bless
