    Hello my friend,
    Thank you for posting this video on air rifle slugs for 12ftlb air rifles. I have thought about slugs in the past but was afraid I'd get them stuck in the air rifle barrel.
    I was really surprised with your BSA R12 CLX PRO. Ive always been content with the accuracy of JSB Heavies 10.65 gr and their hunting success rate. So without meaning to be unadventerous, Ive been happy to stick with those.
    The three air rifles you've used, I have a deep affection for, so wanted them all to do well.
    I zero my air rifles in at forty yards and my scope stays set at that. I then make a written note of hold under/over I require at different distances upto 50 yards..
    Ive attempted 50/60yard shots in target practice and didn't feel confident they had the metal and ooomph to keep on target on breezy days at that range and beyond. That's my own personal opinion based on my personal ability and experience.
    So, for hunting, I'm happy in view of my personal ability and confidence to do what I'm doing and hone my skills at that criteria.
    Nevertheless, its always very interesting to push the boundaries and see what can be achieved.
    Thank you for your film, I found it a really good watch and interesting.
    I wish you all the best in your future ideas and videos.
    Ps. A very good gunsmith told me that pcp 12ftlb air rifles are better used with heavier pellets meaning 10.65gr for example, while spring 12ftlb air rifles are better using 8.4 grain pellets. This is because of how they function.
    Slowed down very many times, the spring piston is a gradual increase of air as the piston moves through the cylinder.
    With the pcp, as soon as the hammer goes, all the air goes at once, full belt. So that suits the heavier grained pellet.

      Hello, my friend,
      Thank you for your enthusiasm and kind comment. I always try to raise relevant, helpful points for people who may not have thought about them. However, I'm also conscious and wary of boring the more experienced people to death. I dare say I have at some point. Apologies, that wasn't my intention. Thank you.

    For the viewers that have said they will go out and buy the Zan pellets, you’re not getting the point and you may not get the same result as rifle barrels will differ. This is a subjective test.
    Mind you, it was interesting and yes, I too liked the fact that we didn’t have to wait an age for each shot to land, that made the video more engaging.
    I’m going to have to find one of those target stands now.
    Subscribed. I’m interested to see what other videos come out.

    I found similar results through my AA S400, ZAN 13grn performed well. Mako, 10.5 I think, so far has out performed anything else, comparable accuracy to good pellets but carries energy better, obviously.
    One thing I noticed through my unregulated S400 is that the ZAN 13's were shifting POI up and down through the course of a fill, at 50 metres. I presume due to the variation in pressure but more work needed to be conclusive.
    Nice work my dude, thanks for the info

    Would you be able to tell me the twist rate of your BSA Ultra SE please?
    Tried the ZAN 10gr in my HW100KT, 310mm barrel 1:16.34 twist, they grouped OK at 20 yards, within 0.5", but I had a major issue with them falling out of the standard magazines and jamming it, so it would be single shot loader only unless I can think of a different way of holding them in the magazine.
    The other issue is they measured about 1ft/lb low vs Bisley Magnum 10.65gr
    Did you Chrony those slugs at all please?

    • @lancsvermincontrol
      @lancsvermincontrol  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So same as the S510.
      When I tested the ZAN 10gr in my KT they measured 689fps = 10.5fpe and were right on the point of rotational stability / instability.
      The app recommended a 1:12 twist rate, but another 40fps would have also made a huge difference as it was it was right in that knife edge and a gust of wing sent them key holing.
      If I try then again I'll give the bore a light polish too. 👍

    • @lancsvermincontrol
      @lancsvermincontrol  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is always room for improvement, ALWAYS. That’s why companies continue to research and develop. Slugs were awful several years ago but they have improved vastly. In sub 12 yes I would probably stick with pellets but at that distance even in sub 12 that slug is more than likely more accurate than a pellet, and will probably get better in the next few years.
      Pellets have probably reached their full potential due to the shape, don’t be scared of change!
