I totally love nails too. I have my great-grandfather's nails, my grandfather's nails and my father's, I have my own Nails after working at the hardware store. I'm revealing my secret love of nails too. You looked bashful when you admitted this . I can assure you we're not alone in this. When I build a piece of furniture using the old-fashioned Nails I always get a positive feedback comment. I'm watching your video because I want to see if I can figure out not to split the wood so hopefully that's a just remember you're not alone. If you want to hear about the screws that are put inside bodies to hold hips and knees together I'd be happy to share my knowledge
Found a ton of cutnails when ripping up my floorboards and i was SHOCKED at the holding power it literally blew my mind cause ive always been joinery first. So now im going down the nail rabbit hole
Thank you for sharing! Working in California I have been in the carpentry and construction world for near 50 years and I have never seen in the field any of the forged or cut nails! Thanks again.
Because all the really old construction in California is gone, or still standing. You would have seen them if you worked in the north eastern part of the U.S.
A bit disparaging about some of those nails! I was told that angling the nail away from the vertical would increase the holding power (especially if you use different angles). Also you missed out the ubiquitous oval nail and the old trick of flattening the point to stop splitting without drilling a pilot. Some of those small headed nails can be completely hidden by cutting a sliver into the wood, nailing and then gluing the sliver back over the nail! Having said that it was a good informative video and gets my thumbs up!

You are 100% right Eddie...however if you are forced to make a living teaching office workers how to fuck up a wooden box for $10,000 worth of lie Neilson soaked investments you really want to keep the subject matter so far back and so obscure that your audience is almost forced to come to you for your bygone, obsolete, and replaced systems. Everyone needs a job.
This guy Nailed it!
As someone who makes hand forged nails as a hobby, I entirely support and appreciate this video.
Id buy your nails, I'm a manual carpenter/ woodworker. Making rustic furniture for 2 years and so far so good! Are you perhaps in Canada? Big cheers

I use forged nails but I make my nails imgur.com/gallery/jE9o7j4 I haven’t been in it long because I’m 15 but forged nails are great
More about nails, please!
@Eddie Espinosa Yes, it's 2017 and we have a clear distinction between a cutters&assemblers and carpenters. The latter know when to use nails.

So helpful. Thanks Chris!
This is so helpful. Thank you! :)
Where can you buy those machine forged nails that are about 5 cents each? I have searched everywhere and I can't find them?
I've been searching and I can't seem to find any. Rockler has some but not the exact
I love nails !
nail snobbery is wild
Where can you get those French nails?

Wait 🙄a cut nail doesn't need a pilot hole if you know how to use the grain pattern right 🤔
thanks!
Did Chris clip his beard and cut his hair or is this a 3 years old clip?
Federico Calboli He did get a trim before the Lie-Nielsen open house, but this is a clip from the "Build a Hand-Crafted Bookcase" video
You can get the French nails here: www.nail.eu.com/en/home/
Nice.
I despise finishing nails with a burning passion, they're only "good" for one thing whilst other nails do the job better.
I honest to god was looking video for our finger nails and thought this could be it
Crucifixion nails🤔
This is 2017 and we have fantastic screws

As soon as he mentioned needing a pilot hole for nails I thought the same thing. Except he's going for a certain look and a screwhead is not it.
