I'll see you all on Saturday! 💗
Me too
Yeay, Bangla! I'll see you in a few hours!
I am here
Hi, Bangla! It's always such a joy to have you! There's another live chat Premier for tomorrow at 11 am EST USA, and I really hope that you can join that one, too 🎉
I am planning a trek to the EBC and I am gathering information about it 🍀
Good afternoon, Andrzej! That's such great news! How exciting! There are lots more Everest Base Camp Trek how-to videos coming, and I can't wait to see you for the next ones! 😃😃
The facilities in the mountains seem to have improved dramatically. Cold washes almost all the way; but I had one hot wash and it was hilarious. I was with an American couple in a tiny village called Orsho, just shy of Dengboche. We were desperate for a wash and the family heated copper baby-pitchers on their stove. We stripped off and showered in the yard with the whole family stood around laughing at the crazy foreigners washing themselves in the snow. It was a freezing cold morning and we were right under the shadow of Ama Dablam. Felt so good to get properly clean.
That is such a great story, David! LOVE IT! Gosh, I might have rethought the entire trip if it was still mostly cold water washes. No, sir. Nope. Not happening haha. That's awesome that the family had a stove and that you got a bit of their hot water. Maybe minus the snow, I think I would have done the same thing. Showers are non-negotiable at the moment hehe. Thanks for sharing that great story, and I'm so happy that the trails are now clean and hot 😀
Will do my best to catch this live. The monastery visit video was great. Have you considered doing one on trekking food? I loved Nepali food: momos, stews, dhal, pakora - all that good stuff you get in the mountains, and the curious blend of Indian and Chinese influences in the cuisine.
Good morning, David! Um, you are making me hungry haha. Food is definitely on my video line-up, but you sound much more like a fab foodie than me ☀️ I appreciate you so much, David!
I am listening. it seems a professor is giving one useful lessons to the students in a university ❤
Hi, Hira! Aw, you're the cutest haha. Thank you so much for listening, and I hope that you'll be able to join the live chat the live chat tomorrow as well 💓
Happy Saturday, Mandi !!!
This was so good and you covered it very well. I think the lack of trash everywhere is in stark contrast to what I personally have experienced in many parts of the world. I really hate to make sweeping generalities but was one of the things to struck me and made me appreciate Nepal and the people groups of Nepal so much. Having had the chance to be in so many homes of families in Nepal I was inspired by how little they had as far as resources and how it did not hold them back a bit as they ingeniously would come up with solutions maximizing the resources they had.
I only had access to western toilets literally just a four or five times during the two years I lived in Asia and came to really appreciate the asian style toilets. I know this sounds strange to us westerners, but I found them much more sanitary. Carrying your own soap and using the water sitting right next to you, you can rinse and clean yourself immediately, air dry and be nice and fresh. The lota (water jug or pitcher with a spout) or even just the small pitcher in the bucket is used to strategically route the water only where it is needed and it is amazing how precise and efficient you can become at quickly cleaning up with out getting totally wet.
Most of the time we had bucket baths and became masters of getting incredibly clean with relatively little water with just a tad bit of skill. It has given me such an appreciation for long hot showers! One of the simple things I loved when I can get them. Hygiene and sanitation is so incredibly important and also is a huge morale booster. There is nothing that feels better than working hard to get somewhere, even if your body feels a tad bit broken and sweaty, than getting into fresh clean clothes after a wash. I also washed clothes and dried them every day. There is also a benefit to having a couple spares of the items that are closest to the skin tucked away as emergency backups when it is too cold to dry completely.
I learned to love the Asian squat-toilets. There's research emerging that it's a very healthy way to go to the bathroom. Bowel-cancer rates are much lower in Asia. Part of that is diet, but it seems the squat toilet plays a part in it too.
Hi, Mark! I love this message so much! I'm not sure why TH-cam seems to be adamant on hiding some of my messages from me haha, so I hope you will forgive my delay. That is such great information, and I agree 100% with everything you've said. I wish that I, too, would have gotten the opportunity to visit homes in Nepal; that would have been one of those memories that are never forgotten, I'm sure! You are the first person that I've heard say that besides me haha - that you washed and dried your laundry every day. I think there's a lot of misinformation and advice being passed on to newer travelers, hikers, etc. that it's impossible to take good care of your external body while you are traveling/trekking, etc., and I am so glad to hear your perspective. And, even better, to learn how you actually did it. That's so funny! Once I started having the option of using the western vs. the Asian toilets - because both were pretty smelly and not well cared for along the trail - my preference was definitely the Asian toilet. In a really clean public bathroom, I might find that I prefer the Asian toilet, too, just because you don't have to actually touch anything, and I do like the whole ergonomic benefit of it, too haha. Thank you so much for sharing all of this! Please forgive my delays in writing; the fall semester is in full swing, and I'm always extra swamped during the semesters. But, I promise that I will write back just as quickly as I can 🎊
Yeah, David! That's so true! That's so great - and it's funny, because I was sincerely just thinking that you and Mark, I think, would be such great friends because you both have so much in common. And, you're both awesome, obviously haha!
@@GoMandiMartin Oh Mandi, please please please give yourself some grace. Look at all your doing! The planing, the actual travel, the shooting, the trips, the edits -- all the while investing in your students. I am sure that you go far above and beyond what is required with your students. You put your whole heart into it. It is what you do. It is who YOU are. That is evident. That is a lot. You are so generous and give so much to everyone.
@@mdgriffith7 Aw, stop trying to make me tear up, Mark! That is the nicest message ever. You are too kind, and I think and feel the same about all you do and all you give; it's so inspiring! Thank you for your kind patience 💟 I hope you have thee best day today!
Looking out for this Saturday too. Great tips about all the things the other trek accounts dont tell you!
Good morning, Bardley! Thank you for the very kind message. I hope to see you in a few minutes for the live chat Premiere! Thanks for being such a wonderful subscriber 💕
Congrats for 1000 well deserved subscribers. These 1000 you will never forget, even when you get your play button you will reflect back on it. Mark my words. I dont think it would be a bad idea to add some more post production and run campaigns for the new content. You have the content. The ball is so in your court.
Joe! Hi, Joe! I love your ideas, and Joe - you are just the greatest! Thanks a million for your congrats! I haven't stopped jumping up and down since the moment I hit refresh for the 18,000th time that day, and then BAM! 1,000! That was such a magical moment! Aw, thank you, Joe! You have been one of my favorite subscribers, and my hero!
hope you find that peace and satisfied with nature out there.we all need a break from busy everyday life, and need to relax our mind sometimes😂
What a lovely message; thank you so much! I wish you the most peaceful day as well, and I can't wait to see you again soon!

Hi, Marc! It's so nice to hear from you. Thank you so much for writing, and I hope I'll see at the next live chat Premiere 💗 If you are interested, there's a live chat Premiere starting in about 45 minutes 😀
I'm on the EBC trek at the moment, can confirm it's sweaty when you don't have a porter. The bucket shower was a highlight so far 😂
Hi, and yeay! That's so exciting! You made it to Nepal -- and you've already begun!🎉 Haha, right! I definitely feel you on the bucket showers. I hope that you have a memorable, once in a lifetime experience! 😀
Brave lady❤
Hi, Shiva! Thank you so much for writing; it's great to hear from you. And, thank you for watching! 💕
Hope to see you on Saturday 🌹
Yeay! I can't wait! I'll see you in a few hours.
Hi Mandi, this is tremendous advice and clearly explained.😀 I’d never go there without a sleeping bag. A good tip is to place a thick duvet on the mattress and one on top of you. You’re an expert on cleanliness and washing clothes, amazing organisation. Have a great weekend an I look forward to seeing more of your adventures.🙏
Good morning, Peter! I hope that you are having an amazing day today. Yeah, that's such wonderful advice; thank you so much for sharing! I definitely didn't have room or available weight for a duvet, but I love that idea! Aw, thank you so much for your kind words; you are such a sweetheart. I really look forward to saying hi again very soon. If you are interested and available, I have a live chat Premiere starting in about 10 minutes 😀

@@GoMandiMartin Hi Mandi. I’m having a great day thank you. I hope you are too. Sorry, I was out so I couldn’t watch your live broadcast, but I look forward to watching it on catch up. I hope it went well, good to see you are doing so well with subscribers! Congratulations on reaching over 1000. Best wishes 🥂
@@peterf46 Good evening, Peter! This is such a lovely message, and you've made my day! Hip hip hooray for 1,000! I haven't stopped smiling since that number popped onto my screen. I love Premiere days; they are simply the best (said like the Tina Turner song). The live chat went really well, and it was truly a lot of fun 🎉 I hope your week starts off well, and I'll talk to you again soon 😄
@@peterf46 Hey, Peter! Aw, yippie for 1,000 subs, and thank you so much! I'm still giddy and can't stop smiling haha. Menarik banget videomu ini.👍

Showers outside is beat AF
😃 Hey, Joe! I had to Google this again haha. Does "AF" mean as + the F word 🙊? Either that, or it means maybe that cold showers can give you a heart attach hahhahaa (Afib) 💔
Thank you for your informative information, one thing I would like to know is they say to drink 3 litres of water a day which means I will need to go to the loo more often, did you have to go behind trees and rocks and is it acceptable.
Haha! Sandy, you are so cute! 😃 That's such a great question, and thinking about it, I'm so surprised that no one has asked it sooner. I was certainly wondering this same thing. Hm, I don't actually remember going outside -- though I do love to do that haha. Shhh, that's our little secret 🙊 There are teahouses all over with the exception of that big push up to Namche on Day 2 (for most) or Day 3 (for me); but, there were periodic ground, i.e., squat, toilets. I think that because so many thousands of people use that trail each year, Nepal has done such a great job of protecting the natural ground by providing toilets every so often. As a warning, though: you will probably have to hold your breath because the toilets smell indescribably bad. The teahouses are a bit nicer of an option, but those can get really bad, too. If you had to, I felt like it was completely acceptable to sneak away and go behind a rock 😃. Thanks again for watching, and I'm really looking forward to chatting with you again very soon.
🤩🤩🤩🤩🥰🥰
Aw, thank you! Love and hugs back! 💗
Comments:
1)you did say dirty cloths weren’t your thing yet…. I think there is a thru hiker in you yet! 😊
2) darn altitude sickness! Enough said about that.
3) Creeping cold showers? That makes an interesting visual.why do I feel like there is unseen footage out there?
4) what no hair to throw around in your video?
5) I like the dry bag washing machine.
6) Toilets, sound crazy!
7) Bedding, 🤢
Kirk! I was just thinking to write you! How have you been? I wanted to make sure that you still have all your arms and legs, and that you are healing nicely. Are you feeling any better?
Aw, I love your thought breakdowns!
#1 Hahhahhahhahaaaaaa! You can insert that green face from you #7 into my #1 haha. I might be the only thru hiker that smells like Channel as you pass her! haha. Ummmmm!
#2 Right. Stupid AMS!
#3 Ha! I actually tried to sneak my camera into the shower area - just to capture what the showers themselves were like -- but grrr to nowhere dry to set the camera. My camera is my baby; gotta keep her dry and warm 🐤
#4 I know, right! Haha. I'll be able to hair-toss again very soon. Plus, once the hair comes out of the curlers, there's a strict "no tossing" rule hehehhee.
#5 Aw, thank you! I swear that I invented that! And then - how crazy - but I found others doing it here on TH-cam, too! How dare they steel my invention before me!
#6 Right!
#7 Double 🤢🤢
@@GoMandiMartin I’m recovering but still banged up. I’m getting some use back in my hand. Glad you enjoyed the comment I’m just moving slow on responses. Hopefully I’ll get better. 🙂
@@kirkstaley1170 Happy Friday, Kirk! I'm so happy that you are recovering, but I'm sad that it's slowly. You could learn how to type with your toes hahhaaa 👣
@@GoMandiMartin oh Mandi if you only knew how tempting that is. I do have some long toes.
@@kirkstaley1170 Kirk! I am laughing so hard! I have teeny toes, haha, and they are barely usable as toes not to mention the likely impossibility of being multi-purpose toes haha. We are so funny! Thank you for the laugh! It's live chat Premiere day! If I don't see you at 11 am EST, then I will be looking forward to your make-Mandi-laugh comments 🔮
5:17 you have that dog in you
Good morning, Joe! Yes, yes, yes! I swear that I was just saying that the dog on the mountain in Nepal is my spirit-self in animal form haha! That's so funny! @GoMandiMartin I wish I could have made it. I came off a 17 hour shift and was ready to pass out

I have a private question: What does a female trekker do if her period starts while trekking to Everest Base Camp? Is it possible for a female hiker to climb Mount Everest while she is menstruating?
Hi, and thank you so much for watching! That's such a great question, and it was a concern of mine, too. Thankfully, there are enough facilities set up along the trail that you should be able to hike on your cycle as you normally would. Most of the toilet stalls have small buckets in them that act as trash containers, so you can put your disposable hygiene items in those, and there are also buckets of water that are used to rinse down the toilets after use, and you could splash the water on yourself to cleanse "down there" if needed. There is no toilet paper anywhere, so that's something that you might want to carry with you in case your cycle starts. You'll also want to take a few extra small Ziplock or other sealable plastic bags in case you aren't near a trashcan and you have to carry your disposable hygiene items with you until you reach a trashcan. However, there are lots of teahouses with restrooms along the trail, so I found that I always had a toilet and a trashcan. This makes is completely possible to do the trek while on your cycle. Thanks for sending this questions. I hope to see you again here very soon! 🥳
Which month you went EBC
Good morning, Amit! It's so nice to hear from you. I did my trek in May of 2023 🙂
Did you go the first or end of May?
