Yeah, I agree. The dude was completely in the wrong, but a general rule of life is "Don't assume malevolence when ignorance is an option". What that looked like to me was the dude went off, looked in his mirror, went to the left to get out of the way, then when he looked back in his mirrors saw the approaching car was also going left, steered to the right to get out of the way again. Also completely possible that the dude just wasn't looking behind him at all.
It looked like intentional blocking (and I'm not saying it wasn't)... but "Inexperienced driver does something stupid" tends to be more common that "Guy intentionally causes crash that will take him out of the race".

6:03 Is it just me or does the 27 move way the hell over to block the car he's following? Maybe he lost control of his car but you see him move to the left, then over to the right. I mean the following car had to dip two tires in the dirt JUST to avoid him! I get what Jimmy is saying but how could the guy following possibly predict that 27 would dive to the other side of the track to keep them from passing? I think he's being a bit forgiving of the 27 car here, it's like he thinks 27 was driving in a straight line the entire time and OP crashed right into him for no reason, when there was no rhyme or reason to come way the hell over like that except to block someone who is faster than you. I agree that the guy should've slowed down a bit when he saw 27 driving erratically, but this is like 80% 27's fault. He stays on his line and none of this happens, but he didn't want to lose position so he dove to the other side to cut them off or run them off the road. The car OP was following got lucky that they had enough space to avoid them. I think OP should've let off the throttle a bit sure, but what 27 did was very much unexpected and...very ungentlemanly, we'll call it.

12:06 Based on the driving standards guideline for the real f1 this season, I think the AT might be at fault for this?
    What the guidelines say:
"Guidelines for overtaking on the inside of a corner"
In order for a car being overtaken to be required to give sufficient room to an overtaking car, the overtaking car needs to have a significant portion of the car alongside the car being overtaken and the overtaking manoeuvre must be done in a safe and controlled manner, while enabling the car to clearly remain within the limits of the track.
When considering what is a ‘significant portion’ for an overtaking on the inside of a corner, among the various factors that will be looked at by the stewards when exercising their discretion, the stewards will consider if the overtaking car’s front tires are alongside the other car by no later than the apex of the corner.

This is an excellent series and anyone looking to improve their racecraft should watch this (also it's just very entertaining lol)
I'm not entirely sure I agree with your assessment on the Indycar incident, though.
It looks like the car in front checks up quite a bit, and the car we're riding with gets caught out by it. That corner does seem like it's actually quite a loaded corner and obviously making significant adjustments to your line in a loaded corner can be pretty dodgy.
I think I'd hesitate to put the blame on the guy we ride with, and would really just call it an unfortunate racing incident.

10:50 the two move rule applies only close to the braking zone. There is something to be said about weaving too frequently or aggressively, but breaking the tow is absolutely allowed on the straights. I might still call the Ferrari at fault, but only because his weaving was harsh, aggressive, and sudden, not because he is making too many defensive moves, as they aren't even close to the braking zone yet.

I've been simracing for a year or so and what I've noticed most about a lot of guys, especially in rookie servers, is that most guys starting out spend about 90% of their energy trying to block you or get in front of you in the moment rather than realize that going way the hell out of your way just to get in front of someone causes you to take a corner way slower and get a slow exit than you would if you would just focus on taking the best line possible without driving like a dick. Public servers can be a real pain in the ass because you run into so many sore losers and jackasses who refuse to let you pass even when you're significantly faster than they are. The amount of times I just get rammed on RaceRoom is really frustrating.
Sometimes you just need to be ok with losing position if it means you'll be able to actually finish the race. I'll happily concede position to some fragile douchebag taking messy racing lines and thinks he's the second coming of Senna. I feel like so many guys would be 10 times better and would get much better results if they raced like that. No 'special' setups thinking it'll give you several seconds a lap, or thinking you need more expensive equipment to be better, just ACTUALLY finish a damn race, maybe even be ok with being a backmarker, as long as you're racing safely.

7:50 Another option for pit entries is for a flag to be set in the game code when you cross that yellow pit entry line. If you go into the pits a penalty is applied for cutting the track: "tHey sAy yoU CUt The COUrSE" etc, etc. However, when you continue that flag is discarded/reset. The performance impact would be negligible, but it might be even less by doing it vice versa (ie. only when you don't cross the line is the flag set) and would mean that lapping the track never enters that code.

Number one tip for new sim racers: Slow down in practice. If you’re flying off the track, spinning and making a lot of mistakes every single lap; you are not getting better.
Lift off early, hit the apex and nail the exit. Get the lap PERFECT at 50 - 70% pace and build up from there.
The most important thing is getting the laps in consistently.
Accept that you are not fast yet and that it will take time to get fast.
If you are making a lot of mistakes you are going too fast for your ability.
Racing is knowing the car so well that you don’t have to try, it should be easy and the only way you’ll get there is by slowing way down.

He was not letting that car pass him, the rear car could tell they were getting purposely blocked no matter what they did which is why they hesitated on their move which is why they crashed

In Watkins Glen it’s rather annoying as with that Pit Entry as the racing line is on where he is. (Notice the two cars ahead of the guy coming in to pit) 7:15 also if that was NASCAR the car behind would have no indication if the car ahead is slowing down to pit unless the spotter or Crew Chief warns them the car ahead or someone ahead is slowing down to pit at Turn 9 (Final Corner) so maybe if the racing line wasn’t completely in the yellow boundaries of the entrance to pit road the racing line would be like the right side tires shouldn’t be over it. In saying that you will compromise your racing line exiting turn 9 tho as your coming in wider and because turn 9 (The final corner) leads onto the front stretch. So that is solely up to the racing series and the track owners

12:33 yeah, if the Mercedes isn't in front of him in T1, he would've gone straight through and probably into the wall. That's his fault. He was behind at that point, so even though the Mercedes driver should've given room, the Alpha Tauri had no business being there. He was not taking the corner in a manner that would result in him ever keeping that position.

when people end up the victim in incidents, it's always important to remember you are both just amateur racers in a game and mistakes happen and are allowed. neither of you is getting paid millions of money to drive perfectly each lap, you are both just trying to have fun in your limited spare time, and you can not expect the people you share the track with to drive perfect lines each lap. incidents are going to happen and usually without any malicious intent on either side. just forgive each other and both acknowledge you could have both given each other more space and move, because in at least 69% of incidents both parties are at least a little at fault considering none of us are pros. we're all just trying to have fun and in sin racing no damage really gets done, so don't get so mad at each other

In NASCAR at the Glen they don’t really enforce that either. But there’s really never been a problem because the spotters are usually on top of it and the driver will signal with a hand out the window on the straightaway after the carousel as well as drive his car all the way to the left side of the track and back up before the next corner to make sure he gets the message across.

The iRacing pit issue could likely be fixed with a simple true or false (boolean) value. Essentially If Car Crosses the line on that lap set PitEntryCrossed to true if not it would be false. Have a check for that value at the start of the pitlane and if you entered the pitlane and crossed the line you would be warned/penalised. Have that value reset to false upon crossing the finish line or in cases where the line is weird, you could use the pit exit line.

4:24 is a really tricky one for me, if the BMW had closed the door then IMO it would be the BMW's fault, however it looks like the beamer does leave enough space, JUST. But the Merc isn't precise enough and hits the BMW. I think it's a racing incident because there was room for the Merc, but the BMW should have been more sensible and made sure he leave-a-the space for him a little more.

Jimmer here’s some advice for the ovals: According Nascar themselves essentially unless it was 100% proven intentional (either admittedly or undoubtedly, i.e. going straight in a corner to wreck someone) then it’s a racing incident and you handle it by having a yelling match in the Iracing chat.

From the over head camera: to me it looks like the red car was trying to let grey pass as red makes the move off the line before grey moves off the line. Does that still count as “his 1 move”?

With iRacing in particular, the 3 month membership had to be started by the beginning of June and as such, there could well be a number of novice racers until September.

I think most people don't understand that sim racing isn't really a 'game', it's a sport in a gaming environment. When you're coming into sim racing from Need for Speed or something like that, those racing games reward massively aggressive driving, where crashing and trading paint is part and parcel of it.
You end up with a lot of newbies who don't understand you're not allowed to weave in front of the person behind you, cut people off in corners, not leave your opponents room.
In a racing game, if a move is going to force an opponent off track, so what? That's standard. In iRacing or something similar that's how you ruin an entire race.

personally I think the pit entry at watkins needs to be changed IRL, not only is the pit entry proven itself to be potentially dangerous need I remind everyone the pit exit is also begging to cause a massive wreck, although as a sim racer and a racing fan I do LOVE watkins glenn & recognize that the pit lane, pit entry and exit are where they are to keep the competition as fair as possible 'cause there is basically nowhere else the owners could have put it without having to force everyone who needs to pit (so the entire field for a lot of series that go there) to take a hugely disadvantageous pit stop.
although these days drivers are expecting to see a slow car on the apex leading onto the pit straight however, it's almost like removing the risk of death/killing or otherwise seriously injuring someone has made Watkins pit entry problematic within sim racing, I gotta say I love this series it has helped me become a more respectful competitor!
just a shame my PC is borked and I cant turn laps or race anywhere rn for that matter
