  • In this video we show you what you can expect on your first Spartan race and why you may want to start with a SPARTAN SPRINT in an OPEN HEAT. We are joined by Scott and Julie Gorges (who are both in their 60s) at the Fox Raceway in Pala, California and we go through every obstacle as an unstoppable family of 4! Plus, we will share with you which spartan race is the easiest and as well as which spartan race pushed us to our absolute limits.
    To help get you prepared to take the first step we’ve included a list of essential gear that can help you have the best possible experience on race day. Also, we’ve included time stamps to all of the obstacles so you can have a better idea of what you can expect and prepare for.

    Fantastic video! Thank you for the tips. I am doing my first spartan experience this weekend in SoCal (Tejon Ranch) Sprint. I don't think I am fully ready where I want to be, but thanks to my husband's encouragement I will try it and hopefully if the experience is good, keep signing up for more races and improving over time.

    Great video and advice from a Spartan veteran. Like you said, the Sprint or Stadion would be the best first event except for someone who is very, very fit such as a cross-fit athlete or experienced runner, especially trail runner. I have found the Stadions to be the easiest with the Sprint next in line. If you are up for a real challenge and fit enough for it, try a Trifecta weekend, they are especially hard but satisfying.

    Thanks for your video. This includes some good info. that I haven't seen on other videos - especially the weight difference on the Hercules Hoist for men and women (would love to know these differences on bucket/sandbag and/or Atlas). I'm doing a Stadion in November (first race) and a Sprint in December. Also, it would be great to know what types of hydration packs you are using and gloves (especially for women). Most videos are geared solely toward men. :)

    • @MakeSomedayToday
      @MakeSomedayToday  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, we're glad that you found the video helpful, we'll be sure to ask what the weight is for men and women for the some of the other obstacles such as the Atlas Carry, Bucky Carry, Sandbag Carry, etc. We think that it is great that you are doing a couple races later this year! In regard to hydration pack and gloves, we left links to the equipment we personally use if you'd like to check some of that stuff out. Maybe we can do a video where Johnni shares what she personally uses for Spartan races. Let us know if there is anything else you'd like to know before your next race 👍

    • @ChrisGorges
      @ChrisGorges ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks, I think we will certainly share our thoughts on how to best train for races and events such as these. The most important part is to just get started and to find something that you find intrinsically rewarding that gets you in better shape. With that in mind, three big things to try to improve on is endurance (walking, hiking, running), overall strength (weight training, calisthenics), and grip strength (pull-ups, farmer's carry, dead-hangs, etc).

  • @timclark1324
    @timclark1324 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey guys, just a friendly reminder. I've watched a few of your videos and I enjoy them alot but, I've noticed on a couple of obstacles you aren't doing them properly. For instance, on the Helix you aren't supposed to touch/use the top of the "cage" at all and on "Z-Wall" you aren't allowed to hold onto the top of the wall. You can only use the "blocks" to hold onto as you navigate the wall.
    Again, just a friendly reminder. Thanks for the videos. They're fun to watch.👍

    • @MakeSomedayToday
      @MakeSomedayToday  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, that is true, when we recorded these races it was during a open heat, but I think we’ll do a follow up video showing how these obstacles are supposed to be done. We’ve done a couple of Age Groups since this one and have some footage of doing the obstacles as you mentioned. Thanks for your input!

  • @dvolad2965
    @dvolad2965 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    great video! I see that y'all have your hydration backpack during the race. On certain obstacles, i.e. dunk wall, where do you leave them?

    • @MakeSomedayToday
      @MakeSomedayToday  ปีที่แล้ว

      So far we have always raced with at least 2 people, so when we do the dunk walls, barbed wire crawl, etc we'll either set them on the ground next to the obstacle or have someone in our group hold them. Our plan for when we start doing Age Group individually later this year is to set it to the side (although for my first competitive Sprint I'm going to attempt to race without it)

    Thank you so much for all of the info!! What's the difference between a Sprint and a Stadion Race?

    • @MakeSomedayToday
      @MakeSomedayToday  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Stadions usually take place in sports stadiums and the obstacles tend to have less reps and lessened penalties, whereas the Sprints take place out on trails with hills and tend to be a lot messier / muddier. Both are around a 5K distance

    • @MakeSomedayToday
      @MakeSomedayToday  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be fair, you are expected to do your burpees or face a time penalty, but for the Open Races they don’t really keep track (the opens are more for fun than competition) and in all the Opens we’ve done with friends and family none of us have ever had a time penalty for skipping burpees. The Age Group and Elite races however are a different story and they are much stricter on the rules and will even penalize you for not doing your full 30 burpees
