    interesting take but personally these are my critiques:
    1. Having Hammond be killed off or die between films after all the work that was done to keep the character alive in the first film just to have him arbitrarily killed off between movies while the actor is alive and well feels unessecery
    2. Malcolm's reasoning for simply wanting to rescue a loved one from a place where he has trauma honestly fits Malcolm's character far more than doing it for academia. considering that Malcolm was Crichton's favorite character, but realizing that Spielberg (in his mind) would've centered the sequel around Grant and Ellie, made Malcolm's motives more in line with something that Grant would do for a more natural character progression for Grant rather than Malcolm
    3. personally I think Sarah's motivation is more Malcolm's original motivation in TLW where she is trying to prove the existence of living dinosaurs and through Hammond's Lost world she attempts ratify her theories
    4. Making Levine a woman is interesting however, the first film went just fine with Ellie and lex being the only human female characters (personally I would just cut the character entirely as he's just Hooper from Jaws with an interest in dinosaurs rather than sharks)
    5. the hunter team being led by Baselton doesn't really seem to work. as the main human antagonist he feels rather out of place. it be like having Tabaki the Jackal rather than Shere Khan as the main antagonist in the jungle book. I understand wanting to keep Dodgson around for later sequels, but frankly there are other ways to incorporate the character. I'd also like to incorporate a bit of an ongoing banter between Roland and the leader of the hunters and their methods. such as the fiasco at the rex nest.

      Those are all valid points, and I appreciate the way you presented them. You’re not wrong on any of your observations. Some of my choices story-wise are preferential, like Levine being gender-swapped to add a little diversity to the cast. Some of the ideas, like choosing to focus on Malcolm’s fatherhood arc over his romantic relationship, are more akin to finishing the promises the movie didn’t keep. And some of them-like making Baselton the primary antagonist to keep Dodgson alive for future sequels-are absolutely fan service bait.
      I will say that offing John Hammond was probably my most difficult decision, because it came so late in my outlining. To me, the novel is so much better than the film, and I always wanted to see that novel adapted more faithfully. But as I began writing the script with Hammond, I realized that I didn’t buy the motivations of any of the characters. Hammond's existence was like a cheat code, paving the way for the gatherer characters to stroll right on to Sorna without a struggle, and I just couldn't work the basic plot of the novel into a story where Hammond was still alive, well and part of the story. But you're absolutely right to point out that removing him from the story seems to negate the storytelling choices of the first film, though I would argue that's precisely what happened with JP3 where Hammond is technically alive but has no part in the proceedings.
      Good ideas all!

    I like Lost World as an okay movie (other than the plot holes) as a casual movie watcher. As a fan of the novel, I can’t understand why they changed so much after Spielberg asked Crichton for a sequel to adapt.

    • @BryanIra305
      @BryanIra305  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neither can I. All the novel really needed was a more climactic ending, but as a whole Lost World had a really intense story that would have been such a better film than what we got. That’s why my story sticks closer to the novel’s plot, because Crichton got it right the first time lol

      And maybe have more elements from the book? For Example:
      1.The Bowman family are renamed Mike, Ellen, and Tina. Here, Tina is working on a school project, and gets attacked by the compys.
      2. Doc Thorne is in the story and remains the same as he was in the novel. With Eddie being his assistant.
      3. Dieter seeks refuge in an old shed to escape the compys just like Dodgson does in the novel but was killed by a velociraptor who was in the shed.
      4. The Raptor attack on the high hide, where Eddie suffers the same death experience from the novel.
      5. Ian ordering Carr to kill the Baby T. Rex, but Carr sneaks it back into the trailer where Ian and Sarah reluctantly fix the baby's leg.
      6. Making Sarah a badass woman like she is in the novel.
      7. Ludlow? IDK. Maybe give him Book Hammond's personality or something?
      8. Having Levine in the story where Ian and Sarah go out to rescue him on Isla Sorna, which he unappreciated.

    Honestly i still would like to keep Hammond. I think he could still fit into this if you're going into the idea of Wu keeping something secret from him. This could be a revelation that Malcom could relay back to Hammond and Hammond could work on the mainland to fix theissue.
    That's just what i want though.

    • @BryanIra305
      @BryanIra305  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly me too! I really wish I’d been clever enough to combine the story I wanted to tell with Hammond being present but I couldn’t. In fact, there is a whole first act of the script which I wrote with Hammond in the story. Malcolm visits him and confronts him with evidence that the animals were still alive and making it to the mainland, and Hammond has to deflect and lie so that I had a good reason to send Malcolm to the island. It just felt so unlike where we left Hammond and how he was in the Lost World movie (which felt so right for his character) that I ended up deciding the only way I could get all the other pieces in place was to remove this one thing I wanted. It broke my heart but I had to do it to make everything else work.

    Interesting. Here's my take on TLW JP:
    The plot remains the same as it was in the film, except some of the deleted scenes are kept: The InGen boardroom meeting, Roland and Ajay talkin' at the bar, Kelly asking Ian if he would marry Sarah, and the scene which explained how the Buck escaped from his hold on S.S. Venture. Here are some interesting facts:
    1. One of the rexes were originally gonna stomp on Roland's tent and push his rifle into the mud, thus taking the bullets out.
    2. There was an original ending where the Buck is attacking Sarah's house in San Diego, because she took the baby.
    3. There was another original ending where the Raptors are supposed to chase Sarah on a motorcycle. Not only that, but there were also gonna be Pteranodons involved, where they attack the helicopter.
    I would add Levine too, except he would be the one to release the dinosaurs from the camp, and keeping the bloody jacket, except he somehow didn't notice the blood. I would also keep the extended raptor attack scene in the worker village (except the gymnastics and the Pteranodons are removed), and the original San Diego sequence (Except Levine will take the baby instead of Sarah).

      @@BryanIra305 Okay that's good! Just one complaint I have is that I don't like how you made Howard King into Peter Ludlow because in the book Howard seemed to be more sympathetic than Lew and Baselton, granted Baselton didn't have much to say but King was more fleshed out and had a backstory to him. I probably shouldn't care this much because he's a minor character in the books- But that's just one thing I don't really like, also the Rex nest was a thrilling scene! I like how Baselton didn't die and I ENJOY that scene with him and Tembo, it really added to his character (your version)
      I look forward to see what's next!

    • @BryanIra305
      @BryanIra305  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! The process is really fun because as I think of new little things to include to flesh things out, I have to go back and add or change things that happen earlier in the story. So definitely I would recommend that when I finally finish, my readers go back and start from the beginning, because I’m bound to adjust, edit and update the whole thing as I work.
      That being said, I really don’t want to spoil aspects of the trio of baddies I’ve established because there are still a surprise or two left there. I also have really important reason that I removed Dodgson from the adventure, which I will eventually make clear in the future. I really hope you end up enjoying the paths I’ve set for these characters though! And thank you thank you thank you for reading! It really means so much to me!

    All valid points. As a kid I felt it was disjointed because of the absence of Dr. Grant and Ellie Sattler. I was glad to see Malcom, Hammond, and the kids back. In terms of the characters, we see how the events of the first film have affected Ian and how hardened he is. Natural. Hammond still being his classic self, wants to make Jurassic Park work. Naturally. Roland I was actually hoping would be killed by a dino. A different dino. Like a utahraptor or even a carnotaurus. Nick disappears for some reason. We never heard from him again. These are my problems with this film.

Imagine how chilling the Velociraptors had been if some of them had the camouflaging ability instead of the Carnotaurs and could that way stalk the human characters in a whole new way aside their high intelligence? The raptors were so underused in Lost World, it’s depressing when you sit down and think about it. From the very beginning of JP they are set up to be the ultimate villains of the film. Then they’re basically after thoughts in TLW. Really sad.

    I think the beginning being a slow burn is a problem for tbis movie being boring. I think if they focused more on thrills it would of been fine like Alien 2. I think Sarah getting lost in the beginning to a Spinosauras and is attacked then immediately having Malcom go to the island would of atleast made it a thrilling movie

    • @BryanIra305
      @BryanIra305  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For as intense as Aliens is, I think it’s important to remember that the heroes don’t arrive on the planet until about half an hour into the movie, and the first xenomorphs don’t appear on screen for another fifteen to twenty minutes after that, nearly an hour into a film named after them. And we don’t consider it boring because the writing and direction is so strong that catching up with Ripley and getting to know the new characters never feels like a slog. A well-done setup pays off because Aliens is so absolutely heart-pounding because we care what happens to the characters before they ever set foot into danger. Contrast with Lost World, where compies appear without any real suspense minutes into the film and the next sighting of dinosaurs, the stegosaurs, appear about 22 minutes in.

    There doesn't appear to be a video about how to fix Jurassic Park (1993) itself. I can think of *MANY* ways to fix the original film, no matter what people think of me or my opinions. Since there's no video of how to fix the first film, I'll write it here in a comment.
    Note: I would have made a video on how to fix JP, but all I have is a webcam (and it doesn't always work well). I don't know how to narrate while showing video clips and how things could be made better (at least, in my opinion). So, I'll just use text here instead.
    *TRIGGER WARNING!!*
    *THIS WILL TRIGGER MANY PEOPLE!!*
    1. The dinosaurs should be more like animals (with notable exceptions - read below) instead of "movie monsters". Instead of attacking, chasing, and killing every living thing that moves, they should be indifferent to other animals and people.
    2. There should be several species of Dromaeosaurs on the island instead of only "Velociraptors" (which weren't even real Velociraptors in the first place). Of course, I would still keep them feather-less. #TeamScalyDinosaurs
    3. All of the "carnivores" should be *OMNIVORES* and, when they do eat meat, should refuse any undercooked or raw meat. Thus, the scene where the Raptors eat the black, sickly-looking steer would be heavily altered. In fact, all of the death scenes would be entirely absent. The herbivores can remain herbivores, of course.
    This means that the omnivores would eat almost anything except undercooked meat, seafood, and other gross delicacies that some people eat in the world. In my version, I would have them eat salad (with dressing), PB&J, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, turkey (all meats cooked well done), corn, pasta (with sauce and meatballs), mac and cheese (sometimes, with chopped hamburger meat), fruit, sweets, and salty snacks (popcorn, potato chips, crackers, et cetera).
    4. The dinosaurs, especially the Dromaeosaurs, should be quite lethargic and only move when they have to.
    5. Since the Dromaeosaurs are my favorite dinosaurs - #TeamDromaeosaurs - they should be allowed to roam about wherever they like and *NOT* be kept behind electric fences. Besides, if they're lethargic, they wouldn't harm anyone unless they get provoked, abused, or harassed.
    6. The Dromaeosaurs should have names and be both male and female. The original trio of Raptors were named Randy, Kim, and Sandy (the "Big One"). I made up the name Sandy since she was never officially named. In my version, all *NINE* Raptors would be alive and well, though quite lethargic along with the other dinosaurs. The names I made up for the other six Raptors are Stacy, Lisa, Maren, Ariana, Alexis, and Victoria.
    Note the names "Ariana" and "Alexis". Ariana Richards is the actress who played Alexis "Lex" Murphy in Jurassic Park. As such, the two Raptors are named after the actress and her character.
    7. Another thing is that the dinosaurs should all be friendly with people as long as nobody tries to provoke, abuse, harass, or threaten them. The Dromaeosaurs should be able to communicate with people and other animals via thought transference and have full conversations with them. Thus, they could tell people how friendly they really are.
    These things would change Jurassic Park so much that no one would recognize the film anymore. But, that's my way to make it better, even if no one else agrees. I have a very strong imagination, and I have no intention of giving it up, no matter what people say. It's a shame that I didn't think of these things before they even made Jurassic Park. I wonder how audiences would have reacted to my version if it had been made back in 1993?

    • @BryanIra305
      @BryanIra305  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There’s nothing to keep that imagination in check, I would say. It’s hard to say how audiences would react to any of it because no one sets out to make a bad film, per se, but sometimes Hollywood is so full of hubris it allows itself to get lazy because it thinks it knows what it’s doing. Or sometimes the filmmakers think they know what audiences are going to respond well to when the fact of the matter is that what they made is too specifically targeted. You can make a good movie for fans but alienate the mainstream, and conversely make a good mainstream movie that alienates fans. The point is to try and make something that is appealing to as many people as possible.

    • @BryanIra305
      @BryanIra305  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In terms of why there’s no How to Fix Jurassic Park, it’s because I personally don’t see enough problems within the film to make an entire video out of it. Even my first gag of How to Fix Lost World is how I have no notes and Jurassic Park is perfect. I’m definitely wearing rose-tinted glasses about it but the critical and commercial reaction to the film-overwhelmingly positive-is justification enough to skip analyzing it in such a way. I do have future plans of doing a video specifically about Jurassic Park, where I and another fan react to the movie in real time, but that’s likely a long way off. My focus is on How to Fix the sequels and my Deep Digs.

I’m not for everyone and perhaps you’d be happier finding a different channel that doesn’t grind your gears so much. But I do want to address this one because I came to the very same conclusion while I was writing the actual script that I mention in the video. Despite the truncated nature of his appearance, Roland is the most developed character in the movie and one of the narrative’s highlights. So I actually restore that aspect of his character and ignored my original intentions of him wanting to kill the buck by the third act, giving that desire instead to Thorne.

    • @BryanIra305
      @BryanIra305  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I struggled with that part mightily before I ever even considered doing a video about this topic. Then I realized that every question I wanted Malcolm’s team to answer could be answered by Hammond himself as head of InGen and the entire Jurassic operation. I couldn’t figure out how to balance Hammond’s character growth in the first film with the story I wanted to tell. Either Hammond tells them everything, which would be true to the character, or he withholds important information just so the characters have a good reason to go to the island, undoing the person he became in the first film. In the end, once I decided to follow Michael Crichton’s example and remove Hammond from the proceedings, everything made more sense.

      Considering the filmmakers essentially already did this by giving certain aspects of Levine’s character to Sarah Harding (her profession, her obsession with the island, etc.) I didn’t think it was particularly sacrilegious to add one more female character to the fake movie I created in my head. The character of Ripley in Alien was written more or less for a male actor but they cast Sigourney Weaver and an icon was born. No aspect of Levine’s character was innately male. So yeah, Richard becomes Ricki in this unsanctioned reimagining of a movie that’s over 25 years old, with no hope of becoming canon or being made. So rest easy.
