It makes thematic sense for the big one, the main villain of the movie, to be the one Rexy gains her scars from. I personally also believe the one who killed Muldoon would also be the big one as they seems to be arch nemesis with eachother so it makes thematic sense for her to be the one who provides the killing attack especially with her talked about ruthlessness. Other than that, I have to agree with you 100%!
Yeah! So like I said in the video, I struggled with determining who the Big One was in every scene, and the one that really made me think was Muldoon’s death. There’s very little to go on there when I made my conjecture as to who was who. I would argue too that it doesn’t really matter which one was which as it doesn’t have real bearing on the plot of the film. And for most of my life I’ve imagined it was the Big One who kills Muldoon. But a while back I actually wrote a novelization of the film itself and when I came to the scene in the jungle I kind of realized that to make Muldoon, who “knows more about raptors than anyone,” temporarily forget raptors hunt in packs, he had to have some blinding motivation to kill the one he can see. So I went back and I fleshed out Muldoon’s relationship with the Big One, sharpening their antagonism following Jophery’s death. In that way, the reader could more easily swallow Muldoon’s seemingly out-of-character failure. I also discovered how much I liked the villainous symmetry of the Big One denying Muldoon both the opportunity to kill it *and* the honor of death by main baddie. It was the equivalent of a supervillain having one of the hired goons murder one of the superhero’s friends. That closing shot of the snake on the branch crossing in front of the raptor’s calm, watchful head while the other animal rips Muldoon apart screams Big Bad energy to me. Thus my headcanon is that it was the Big One who lured him in with the promise of retribution and it was one of her subordinates that killed Muldoon.
Really well thought out as usual. I'd previously been on the fence about the Big One's gender. However, when you brought up the point about the Big One being the newest member of the pack and highlighted that in JP3 it was a female leading the pack then hypothesized that the other two raptors were males, you fully convinced me with your argument. Naturally, this all also works thematically; you really tied it all together beautifully.
There's one thing wrong with this though: in JP3, the alphas in the pack were both male and female. There wasn't a single leader regardless of the focus of the camera on the female looking to retrieve her eggs. You can clearly see that her mate is also considered an alpha - they both set up the trap with Udesky and then he helped her retrieve their eggs. He was also the last one to grab an egg after her at the end of the movie.
Great video man! It makes sense when you broke it down especially given the JP/// raptor tribe being all male led by their alpha female raptor that looked more 1st gen ingen Raptor. As stated in the ‘93 film they bred 8 Raptors originally. It reminds me very much of how they bred 7 Rexs on Sorna and how maybe one Rex changed (while keeping female skin) sex to male possibly to create buck and greenie as they’d be 2nd gen rexs bred in the wild. I’d love to hear your thoughts about that in another vid! So far out of the 7 rexs that we know are females (sisters imo much like blue and hers) are rexy, doe & big eatie. With maybe one of the remaining 4 changed sex post the hurricane that wiped out a lotta site b. I wonder what your thoughts on Rexy and doe being sisters looking so much alike really as well as big eatie being a sister who possibly grew up on the more northern tropical part of site b for her coloring that’s a little more vibrant. And where the buck and jp3 rex came from. Possibly 2nd gen rexs. JP3 maybe even 3rd if it’s the infant from TLW. Thx. Would love to hear your thoughts!
The game developers are more than free to retcon that particular piece of lore since the Big One isn’t exactly a pop culture icon. Most viewers wouldn’t even remember how many raptors are even supposed to be in the movie, let alone that one of them is known as the Big One. I suspect that the developers won’t address which of the raptors it is but if it is retconned to be the Big One I think there is some leeway to do so. It would take away from the end fight, I think, but it’s something that only in-the-trenches fans would even passingly consider.
weren't you the one who told me that the Big One killed the males after mating with them instead of what I think AND what your pointing out in the idea that the two subordinates are the males
That may very well be true. I’ve responded to a lot of comments in the last few years. If you’d asked me five years ago, I might have actually been leaning towards the Big One male theory. My opinion evolves as I discuss ideas with other fans, consider possibilities more carefully and second-guess some of my own foundational thoughts. I do want to point out, however, that the idea the subs are male is only one possibility. To borrow a phrase, will it canon? At the moment, it can’t be confirmed or denied with the information given to us in the film. It is just as likely that the two subs are females who bowed to the Big One when she entered the pride. In the end, it’s complete speculation because, unlike with the Big One’s gender, there simply aren’t enough clues to form a strong enough opinion to say one way or another.
Everyone asks if the big one’s gender is male or female, nobody asks if the big one prefers to go by they them pronouns. Though to be honest, those who do end up like a turkey after thanksgiving

I am so impressed with your writing that I think movie series should hire you, seriously I do.✊👍
Thank you so much!! ☺️
What do you think of the big one being locked in the freezer and possibly being the antagonist of the survival video game?

Yeaaaahhh, it’s probably not a great idea to ask a Velociraptor how they identify, because the likely answer is “NOMNOMNOMNOM.”
