Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

I first heard of Enya when I started dating my wife of 30 years. Enya's songs have such a spiritual feeling to them and they bring back memories of new romance from long ago. Enya truly sounds of what I would imagine an angel sounds like in a Heavenly chorus. Enya is a gift. Too bad more haven't heard of her beautiful music.

I've been plagued by GI problems for two years. I've been to four doctors, had twelve medical appointments, five medical procedures, and been on six different medications, and still nobody can figure out what's going on with me. I also have a sensory disorder which means I'm in pain every second of my life and I notice every bit of it. Now I'm not an optimist- never have been never will be and this definitely isn't my usual style of music, but Enya is the one thing that gets me out bed in the morning. It's like she knows how terrible life can be but sees beauty through the pain and conveys it through her music. Amazing...

*How Can I Keep From Singing* is a cover of the originel christian Hymn "My Life flows On in Endless Song" composed by american Baptist Minister Robert Lowry. The first known Publication was on August 27, 1868, in The New York Observer.
Pete Seeger learned an other Version from a Family Friend nammed Doris Plenn, who had it from her North Carolina Family, with a revised lyrics that omits Christian Contents and adds a Verse about Solidarity in Context of Oppression.
This revised Version made this Song fairly well known in the Folk Revival of the 1960s.
Quakers did not allow congregational Singing in Worship until after the american Civil War, but hearing Seeger's Version in social activist Circles, they endeared and adopted it.
The originel lyrics and Plenn's Verses were included in hymnal Project.
In 1991, Enya follows the lyrics of Seeger and Plenn, to record, in 1964, her Version of this Anthem on her wonderful album Shepherd Moons.
The Song was first released as a single in November 1991, with "Oíche Chiún" and "'S Fágaim Mo Bhaile" appearing as additional songs.

This is the first song I heard Enya sing. It's author is the most famous of all-ANONYMOUS. But as a singer, songwriter, musician I consider it my motto.
I find, that Enya looks like her music, absolutely beautiful.
I don't know why nothing I hear her / do doesn't surprise me. I love ADELE also. But I simply must admit : ANNIE LENNOX IS MY MENTOR & ALL-TIME singer, songwriter, & musician. My favorite music& first music I ever heard as a child was Ramito,Puerto Rico's Woody Guthrie, but in school the first music I was exposed to was Irish Folk music; absolutely loved it. I wish i could play the bagpipes.
