Enya was born Eithne Ni Bhraonain in Donegal, Ireland. Enya studied classical music at college under private tuition. On leaving college she was asked by Producer Nicky Ryan to join her siblings in their family band. She did so for a short time, but found it too restrictive musically, and so in 1982 she joined Nicky Ryan and Roma Ryan in a creative and business partnership. Enya's first commission was to write a score for Sir David Puttnam for his film "The Frog Prince". Then, the triumvirate secured the soundtrack to the BBC documentary series 'The Celts'. Enya was then signed by Warner Music and all three by EMI Music Publishing. The first album of this contract was "Watermark" with the hit single "Orinoco Flow". This was followed by "Shepherd Moons", "The Memory of Trees", "Paint the Sky With Stars", "A Day Without Rain" which produced the single, "Only Time".

I played Enya, along with Jim Croce, during the three days my sister was immobile and unconscious dying due to kidney failure due to her chemo fighting a metastacised cancer in July 2014. I was alone with her till the end. I'll never forget it, not ever. Thanks for posting your experience.

well it seems we've all heard it before, but unfortunately not everyone really gets it I guess. I didn't for a while. I was really pessimistic, but I am starting to change fortunately. I am now 27 almost 28. My advice is to simply look at what you have, rather than what you dont have. Looking at the bright side of things. Like the glass is half full. To be grateful/thankful. I'm still a virgin male at 27 because I didn't quite know how to be confident in myself and to believe in myself. And how to go about getting laid. I always thought I didn't quite fit in. Like I was a misfit or something. Plus I also played hard to get I think, and didn't know how to properly communicate with people, especially women. I was a shy kid and my mom died when I was only 8 years old. And my dad didn't talk to me about girls or to help me grow as a person and to be social with people. And so as a result I think I didn't know how to properly interact with people. I never made too much of an effort to make friends or get a girlfriend. It's funny because I'm just really learning just how hot I am lol. And I think back to all those small interactions with women ( and black guys lol!) or the looks I got, and now I know what I should have done. It's absolutely hilarious 😂. I'm a hot piece of ass and just didn't quite know it. But I do now 😉 You gotta believe in yourself homie! Like I said I've never had sex and you know what, I think I'm OK if I never have sex at all in this life of mine. Knowing that I'm hot AF is plenty enough for me. I see it as a bonus. I'm trying to simply look at the bright side, remember!? Like the glass is half full. And for the other side where the glass is half empty, just simply let it be my friend. Unless you can do something about it. Then buckle down and get it done asap! No complaining! Trust me! Be the change you want to see in the world. If you can't change it, then do what the Beatles said, "Let it be". Don't get jealous of others. Stop comparing. Believe in yourself! Why waste time comparing, when you have your own life to live and your own self to improve 💯 naw I mean son? Lol! Try to be independent and not rely too much (if any) on other people. Don't be a sheep in the herd, always following others. Be strong enough to be a lone wolf when you want to or need to. Or like a solitary tiger in Siberia. You, are YOUR number one in life. My mum passed away when I was 16, and when I listen to this song I remember her, when everything was better: my only duty was to get a good mark at school, at my beautiful highschool, where I met my best friends. I miss those times, I didn't realize they were the best times of my life. I want to go back.

This was the last song I played and sang to my mama before she passed away. She may have been incoherent on hospice care but I believe with all my heart she could hear me singing and talking to her. Because even though the lyrics are beautiful and hopeful, the context applies surely to loss, especially human loss. This is the song you listen to when looking for support after losing someone or tragedy.

The instrumentation and vocals are quite simply perfect, but the lyrics and progression make it sound "sad", or rather that something just ended. Endings can be both tragic and beautiful. Something new starts, which evokes thrill, hope and happiness, but something else ends, which makes you feel sad, nostalgic, regretful.

One of the greatest songs of all time.
Years ago since I was already feeling persecution, I headed for St Michael's Church in downtown Pensacola FL, and sat down and had a conversation with the parochial priest. He proceeded to show me the rectory and his desk and his statue of Sr Michael Archangel, and just told me that the only thing that he wanted was to be able to die in peace.

In 2000 I was still in aftercare. Being 7 years old I couldn't drive myself home. So I admit to being fuzzy on the age for this song, however, I do remember my dad playing Enya when I was younger than 7. I looked it up and you're right, I confused this song for being on her '95 album 'The Memory of Trees'. You crashed my nostalgic truck haha. So I must have been in elementary school when he picked me up. Good catch

I have thought that many times. That music truly is angelic.
Van Damme led me to Volvo trucks and reminded me of the great length of time elapsed since I last listened to Enya. Now I need to find out where those trucks are driving because that sun rise was quite beautiful. Isn't that just inspired advertising?
