I will never understand why this movie bombed at theaters but lucky it had a cult following years later, to this date, it's my favorite musical of all time.
+Solofyd neither did I. Loved this movie growing up; remember waiting for the Disney premiere on the disney channel back in the early 90s so we could record it.
jeebus022 Even after all this time, I still listen to the soundtrack and watch the movie every so often. My favorite songs on the soundtrack are " Carrying The Banner " " King Of New York " " Once and for all " and the sooth melody of " Rooftop " Whenever I go hiking or whenever I am at the beach alone, I always have " Rooftop " playing on my Mp3 player, it's such a relaxing song.
The inspiration for the choreography for Mr. Ortega was none other than Gene Kelly. He was on another set shooting Xanadu. He would stop by rehearsals and give critique. Mr. Ortega mentions he found his input invaluable and was the soul of the film.
I love this version of the song more than the Broadway version because Davey was literally against the strike up until the very end, when he finally starts singing along. He gave in too easily in the Broadway song.
ShawnDude82 I disagree and think that Jeremy Jordan had an even more loud and commanding voice. No hate on Christian Bale, because at first he didn’t even know it was a musical lol, but the only reason his voice might have come out more demanding is because he was half-singing, half-shouting the lines, unlike Jeremy who sang the entire thing.
Jessmuell25 I think Christian Bale brings more of a longing to go to Santa Fe. I feel like it’s like a kid wanting to go somewhere. It feels more raw from Bale’s performance and it fits with the character of Jack Kelley. Also I love Christian Bale
Have u ever heard ben platt sing? Johnathon groff? Anthony ramos? Christopher Jackson? Mile faist? Hugh Jackman? Deveed diggs? I could go on but I think we've established that men can sing sufficiently with this list
Brie BeLonge Because my opinion differs from yours. Right. You do realize that even the cast of this movie thought they were terrible? Even Christian Bale refuses to even talk about it he hates it so much.
No, I understood you. But I'm simply in disbelief. Aside from the girl who plays Sarah, who I am convinced cannot act for her life, I believed everyone else to fit their roles. They don't need to be A-list actors in order for you to believe them to be what they are portraying on the screen (aside from Robert Duvall, who IS an A-list actor. He totally nailed his role as the neurotic Joseph Pulitzer). For you to say otherwise says something about you, not their acting.

same. i watched it in school and everyone loved it

Me as well. To be honest....I literally only discovered it about a month ago! I am genuinely upset I wasn't introduced to it when I was younger!

I also feel like Jeremy doesn't have as commanding a voice in this song as Bale does.

Imagine if this was a suffragette song.
They already got their own song in Marry Poppins lol

There was a lot of tossing stuff back then, fruit, bricks, rocks ,etc.
Weird thing is ALL the Newsies weren't that loud.
So they soaked people who didn't hear them ;)

Was my favorite musical until I saw The Book of Mormon
Trust me, the book's better than the musical
I mean it's not bad for a shitty cast with no singing talent.
lol wut
barbaro267 do you need to read it a second time? I did type in English.
Wow ure a bitch
