Hey mate, Thanks for the review. I am now the proud owner of a Lux Hybrid. I ordered a red one back in April, by the time it got to me it had turned grey. I have also test driven the Ultra petrol model, so have a few points that may be of interest to you and your subscribers. AWD + 4L vs. 2H + 4H + 4L It was not until I picked my hybrid up that I found out that the traditional 2H (rear wheels) + 4H (presumably without a front/rear diff) for offroad only + 4L selection was, in fact, only 2 options of AWD + 4L. Something that could be elaborated upon. Still working out how the hybrid drive works in AWD mode. I find that when sitting at a stop with the engine running and then punch it to get across a lane of traffic, it responds with the speed of the base model. On the other hand, if the engine stops while waiting and I floor it, the electric kicks in instantly and I'm propelled through the intersection with no lag. Flooring the petrol only model gives you a decent half-second of lag between flooring and response. Often, when softly accelerating from a stop, like in traffic, the display shows only the rear wheels being driven by the electric motor. So maybe the electric motor is only coupled to the rear axel?? No Michelin tyres on the Lux Hybrid. Previous reviews have specifically mentioned the fact that they came with Michelins from factory, which is odd for a Chinese made car. Well, mine came with Hankook tyres, but your Ultra Hydrid has Michelins?? Odd. Thanks! Anthony

IN THAILAND I HAVE A TANK 500 HEV, THE BIG BROTHER OF THE 300. IT IS AN EXCELLENT CAR: BIG, HEAVY AND VERY COMFORTABLE WITH BAGS OF POWER BUT QUIET AND PEACEFUL. I GET 30-45 MILES PER ENGLISH GALLON DEPENDENT ON HOW I DRIVE. LET IT ROLL GENTLY, 90-100K AND IT'S LIKE A LOUNGE ON WHEELS. I'VE HAD MANY, MANY CARS OVER 60 YEARS AND THIS IS THE BEST - LOVE IT..
I believe this version is for the performance not for saving fuel. When you driving a v8, you want the performance not saving fuel right? Latest technology gives you that but not cost you an arm and leg.
Do hybrids like this ever give you full power from both engines? Do you ever actually get 260kw and 615Nm or do the electronics manage the combo of engines so that there is a broader (but lower) torque curve? Say max combined torque of 450Nm but spread across a wide rev range as a varying combo of petrol/electric? Would be interesting to get a hybrid like this on the dyno vs the non hybrid with the same petrol engine.
I get that they use both, but do you get the max output of both engines at the same time? I drive a Tuscon hybrid for work. Came out of a Mondeo. Both 6spd, similar weight, power should technically favour the Tuscon (170 vs 150kw) and torque is lineball. However, other than off the line, seat of the pants would hand the Mondeo any performance award. Once off the line the Tuscon feels allot more like it's 130kw/ 265 than 170/350. It isn't slow exactly, but I was surprised that it does not feel like the headline numbers.
Given the Tank doesn't have a massive fuel payload like a Prado, I was hoping they'd use the hybrid to give it economy ajnd cruising range. Ideally I was hoping it could get a 1000+km range like the H6 hybrid. I'm not sure what I'd do with the power and torque if it's not fit to tow or has a small 350kg payload. No need to race it and GWM suspension is all too soft on most of their cars.
seriously considering buying one of these in Mexico currently. such an amazing car that meets my needs at a better cost with a significantly better interior and features than any other options
The battery doesn't only charge when you brake, it charges when only the engine is running and also when you roll without braking. There is a power management on the dash that you see when you get power output and input into the hybrid battery.

None of these reviews takes a look at actual city, start and stop driving with the hybrid - where it should offer an advantage. It seems that it would deliver much lower operating costs. You don't want a hybrid just for highway or off-road driving.
Would you buy the hybrid for 5 grand more? We're currently tossing up between the two and they have an end of year sale on which has halved that extra 10 grand difference.

Can you load up a Tank with 5 passengers, perhaps some luggage for a day trip and run it on the scales? It can't legally carry what it is designed to hold with it's piddly payload rating of 397-420kg. 5 average adults would put it on the limit. You'd think this would be a pretty important piece of information to bring up as many families not knowing any better will just load it up and be overweight.
Yeah, because all adults weigh the same hey? haha. It has to be on th ebuyer to do their own research, everyone wants others to give them all the answers.
Looks OK.. but offroad credentials?? How many cross country competitions , Dakar championships does it wins..? I hardly recall any from Chinese brands..

YOU DID NOT ALLOW THE BATTERY TO BE FULL. WITH THE ICE AND THE BATTERY SYNERGY THE VEHICLE TAKES OFF. IT DOES IN MY TANK 500 THAT IS MUCH THE SAME AS THE 300.
I’d rather buy the base model and increase the power out put, and keep the weight low, kinda useless model imo being a hybrid and not being able to save petrol
Since this was a hybrid review, I expected to have more information on the details of the hybrid system. Details of the charging, usage and function of the car when the batteries are used would have been more helpful than a rehash of the orange car review. Info like when does the battery kick in, is it manually controlled and is the care a pull in or not would have been better. Real world day to day usage of the car could also been shown.
GWM wanted it to be a G-class alternative but it turned out to be a Jimny competitor 😅 It'd be in a different league if the just added a damn plug but they missed an opportunity.
The fact you had to let GWM know that the wheels left the ground under breaking really tells you how little development/testing these cars go through before they hit the market. The customer really is the tester for modern vehicles.
Despite the tank300 has been on the market for good 3 years, tested and got thrown into the toughest road condition you could find in China. Never heard of a single case of brakeing issue. Unless you plan to go offroading with ZERO payloads in the back, i don't see why people so fussing over the rear wheel thing.
@@lcy2004vip Never heard of a single braking issue ? Did you literally not watch the video ? The point isn't being made about braking off-road it's about emergency braking on road. The fact that this wasn't picked up shows how little R&D goes into these vehicles.
@@ashcosmo3854 Did watch the video, and I was speaking of a good three years of record that zero brake failure occurred with 280,000+ tank300 sold and millions miles travelled. None of these reviews takes a look at actual city, start and stop driving with the hybrid - where it should offer an advantage. It seems that it would deliver much lower operating costs. You don't want a hybrid just for highway or off-road driving.
Urban driving (light foot hyper miling) should achieve between 7-8L/100km.
Look man this doesn't look like a city car
0:08 , Paul , are you sure we all have been 'hustling' you for this?!😅
Unfortunately in the Philippines, the petrol version is no longer affordable luxury.
What is the app on your phone giving you 0 to 100 times? Plz :)
Could be the Race box, two models need a phone app to report the results. While the higher end model has a display.
Would you buy the hybrid for 5 grand more? We're currently tossing up between the two and they have an end of year sale on which has halved that extra 10 grand difference.
Waiting for the phev variant... then i will make my choice.... hoping the phev brings the fuel economy to a better combined figure 🍻
It will be mass-produced in 2024, and there will also be Tank 330. You will have more choices by then.
@yanjiangli-lq9pg whats the 330... is it still a petrol/ hybrid/ phev.. or is it a diesel hybrid/ phev or is it hydrogen/ hybrid/phev or is it full electric .... I can't find anything on the 330 🤣
tank330 will be launched in China in 2024. The current news is that it will be equipped with a 3.0TT gasoline engine and there will also be a tank300 PHEV version.@@thatdudethatsezshiz7706
@@thatdudethatsezshiz7706330 is the v6 edition of tank 300,it's being tested in china now, not sure it would be taken to Australia, but we have no 300 phev in china, that's weird🤣
@@thatdudethatsezshiz7706 tank 300 3.0tV6
top tier at this price range fr
Great review
Hello Paul, I'm sorry to bother you. Well, I'm going to buy a new car, but the two models I'm looking at are Ford Ranger Wildtrak 2024 and GWM Tank300 Ultra. Which car do you think is good? Which one do you like?
I'm interested in the tank but I'll wait until a real hybrid version is made. One that is comparable to the RAV 4 hybrid.
rav4 is just a urban SUV. tank is a proper off-roader😅
does it still go up on 2 wheels when breaking hard?
likely not with the big heavy battery in the boot. lol.
I respect the Tank, it fills a lot of the gaps left by the overpriced Wrangler and barebones Jimmy, but the breaks are just awful and the Hybrid isnt worth the price increase imho.
Not many SUV's can transform into a motorcycle.😅
Suspension could be tuned better or firmer at the rear, but most Chinese cars have softer ride.
61k for a Chinese non-plug in hybrid is craaaazy
12L per 100?????
12.5L per 100km for a hybrid?
You not a car guy, are u? Prado which has a wayyy less power and even diesel engine, it costs 11-12L per 100km.
@@ericfisher8923 sorry not understanding your point.
@@OlyMar83 as such big power petro hybrid car, 12.5L is very good. I had Prado 2.8 diesel and lc200 4.5 diesel, they very thirsty like 12L and 15L per 100km
Hello pual, I was just wondering if you could/can you please review the tank 500 ultra hybrid please.
awaiting in Europe for this car
BYD Seal any time soon?
December 20 😁
@@CarExpertAusI can't wait! I got Tank 300 and next year I'll be getting Seal to replace the second car at home.
@thearlongpark similar plans too 😅
@@CarExpertAus sensational.
Any idea when Cannon Alpha is coming onshore??😂😂😂😂@@CarExpertAus
BYD's latest model, the Leopard 5, will be the best choice, with stronger power, stronger off-road capabilities, more fuel-efficient, and more luxurious interiors.
Hey Paul
When are you doing byd seal review.
Cheers
If the battery only recharges under braking, how long does it take to recharge fully once depleted?
black color looks cool.
Hi Paul, isn't this the car whose rear lifted up on the braking test you did? I should think this car is even unlawful to sell, let alone review lol.
I would imagine the drivetrain is very similar to the one in the new GWM Cannon Alpha hybrid ute that should be on sale soon.
😎🇦🇺👍
There is currently no hybrid version of the Tank 300 released in China, so the United States and Europe have to experience the Tank 300hev earlier than China.
我们国家很多政策原因,并不能弄HEV的东西,而PHEV要等到福特烈马发布 才能推出,因为中国国内车企竞争太激烈了。
I’m not fan of Chinese cars but this tank 300 looks awesome car . Better than sangyong
Yeah, because all adults weigh the same hey? haha. It has to be on th ebuyer to do their own research, everyone wants others to give them all the answers.
actually, considering the price it’s way better than Prado which has no power at all and the tech is 20 years old
Tank 300 is a little bit dangerous. I'll stick to the Tank 300 hybrid.
How's the breaks ?
Doughy and 💩
Them’s the breaks…..
Breaks or brakes?. Brakes don't perform too well, leading to a greater chance of breaking.
Cool, When review BYD Dolphin coming
It looks a bit like a Lada Niva from the front.
Looks OK.. but offroad credentials?? How many cross country competitions , Dakar championships does it wins..? I hardly recall any from Chinese brands..
Bro, Do you drive on bush, desert, mud road every day???? BWM, Bentley, Honda,Mazda
Did they win Dakar championship???
Looks real good. Is there a PHEV version as well?
There is a Tank 500 being tested and will be released soon is Aus is PHEV
It does look Gangster 😎 Fo' Shizzle
Did you say if it was plug in hybrid,
No
We want ineos grenadier review
Looked at a brand new one at a 4wd show and the leather was all cracked and the salesmen said 'oh you get that sometimes with genuine leather'. What?! after 0 kms?
Thanks 🙏 Guy I’m Paul
is the 300 hev an AWD?
Can you drive electric only around town? Or is it just combined?
Up to 40km ie around a parking lot after you just start it - but engine will start soon enough.
@@mickspecialthanks. What a waste!
Have you guys driven the outlander phev?
Yes, we have a review of it on the channel.
300Nm to 600Nm?
Terrible fuel economy even with hybrid.
If you cannot afford a Bronco in Australia, buy a GWM Tank
No grab handles on the A pillars?
there is, 1 on each side
No drivers grab handle .. instead stupid camera that screams at you
Classic car
The Key is a mini Tank :)
For the mini peasant 😅
Kindly review the new 5 and 7 series.
GWM wanted it to be a G-class alternative but it turned out to be a Jimny competitor 😅
It'd be in a different league if the just added a damn plug but they missed an opportunity.
tank 300 is good enough...... hybric maybe not much differences
Why can't we get these things in the United States
After seeing what happened to Huawei😂you know why
You can, but the autonomous drive only takes you to the Chinese Embassy
Isn't the rear camera issue the same with the jeep.?
If you were to slam your breaks on in a corner and the back wheels leave the ground you're going to spin or roll the vehicle. The fact that this wasn't picked up shows how little R&D goes into these vehicles.
@@ashcosmo3854 Did watch the video, and I was speaking of a good three years of record that zero brake failure occurred with 280,000+ tank300 sold and millions miles travelled. The data is much more convincible than a homemade test. Have you actually compared the braking distance of a tank 300? Does it below average level? Does the rear wheel lifting really affecting the safety at all?
@@ashcosmo3854 and if you are about to slamming the brake at a high speed corner and risk rolling the car, Tank's rear wheel is the least you need to worry about, but to think of why you are driving like a maniac
@lcy2004vip Shit logic. If a child runs out on a road it's because I'm driving like a maniac ? What if a car pulls out on you ? Really bad logic. Thanks for proving my point right.

Hii Paul
I get 12l in my ram!
Approx 400- 440kg payload is CRIMINAL by this carmaker. Two adults, towbar, 250kg towball mass AND IT IS ILLEGAL and you cannot even fill the fuel tank! Its about time journalists focussed on this sort of pathetic design and called them out instead of drooling all over it. Very disappointed that this design flaw is not front and centre of every report to force the maker/dealerships to modify this vehicle from new. Or seriously refuse to report on this vehicle.
90kg less than a jeep.
Braking performance also needs a look. Roads littered with SUVs and utes that can’t stop from 100 in less than c45m.
😂
Look for John Cadogan, best Aussie automotive reporter.
Spot on mate but these so called car experts will not bite the hand
exterior Kinda mix of Jeep and bronco, interior G class?. Designer must be very good at playing lego
Tank 300 released in 2020 and Ford Bronco in 2021. Bronco copied Tank300 🤣🤣🤣
1:47. When I saw the warped plastic bumper, I stopped watching any further. Security and durability are two big things for me in a car. That's why I still have some reservations about Chinese cars.
