Good review. I have owned my Tank 300 HEV Ultra since late October 2023 and it’s about to go for its 10000km service. I also still own my 2013 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. The Tank is a much nicer ride and definitely has the 4x4 capabilities of the Rubicon. Unlike what you found about sound quality of calls, people calling me couldn’t hear the difference between me driving or being in the office on calls. The sound quality of the infotainment is also pretty good, it could be because of the higher HEV Ultra spec. It takes a bit getting used to the little annoyances like the indicator lever etc and in my case the stupid camera facing the driver, but I love the Tank. The hybrid fuel consumption is better with combined driving constantly below 10l/100km. Let us hope it can do the time. $61k compared to $85k+ for the Rubicon made it a no brainier for me
I have this new Tank300 since last Oct 23, lanekeeping isn’t work well, however it seems that GWM noticed, I got it and notice them at the during the first service and have the new software free upgraded(which I found that most owners not know), problem solved , OK now

This is one of the best reviews I've seen on TH-cam. Practical, no nonsense, with a bit of fun thrown in at the end. Well done. The small load limit is a limitation that I wouldn't be able to live with. It's not high enough for a family wagon. Aside from that... its fairly impressive.
Unfortunately you still comparing the wrong application though . This car is designed around occasionally going off road with a few accessories.......not taking roughly 400kg of weight with you to go conquer the great Australian outback. In other words Sam if you own a Lamborghini don't expect it to compete in the F1. Be happy with what is it.
Complaining about the brake “issue “ constantly. , obviously these people are the haters. Got my Tank ultra 6 months now ,nearly 10.000 km and average fuel consumption about 10 Liters for 100 km. It’s all up to your way of driving.
Gidday mate. In the market to buy a Tank300 but this review 100% puts me off. There is no way I am purchasing if the fuel consumption average is 11l or more. 5 months from your comment above - what is your average fuel consumption look like?
Not 4 wder myself, but an informative test. A lot of people buy a 4WD because it looks manly then don't take it off road, just block people's view at an intersection. This car would be perfect for them. Doesn't cost the world and does most things pretty well. Great family car. Goes a lot of places. 👍
IMO some people greatly exaggerating the lifting rear wheels for fraction of second under 100% braking. The main thing is everytime you do it, the car does not spin out, rolled over or lost control and still have similar stopping distance as other dual cab utes. And of course you never ever slammed the brakes in the corner even if you're driving sports car, let alone 4x4 off roader with ladder frame chassis.
If you have slammed the brakes on at 100kph, you are probably more concerned about the object in front of you that’s closing fast. It wouldn’t be “I think the rear wheels left the ground for a nanosecond”…
@@goldfools5445 Gosh, you're a thinking man, just as I am. Exactly, if you have found yourself in the predicament of accelerating to 100klm's an hour and then jumping on the brake pedal with maximum force, A) you have driven beyond your ability & necessity, hence B) your focus as you said will be on what's closing in at a horrendous rate. C) in the final act, whom will be measuring what distance the rear wheels were in the friggin air. After such an event, Your Focus will be, hope I didn't shit my pants cause that'll be embarrassing, ha! What's being totally overlooked with this hyped up issue. GWM designed the 300 as a Hybrid, hence the base models don't have the weight of the battery BUT, yes BUT do retain the Rotors, Calipers, Brake Pads designed to stop the hybrid, plus are fitted with bloody good road gripping rubber. Truly, no issue. Hard braking & rapid stops occur in residential driving, mostly under 70-80 Klm's an hour.
@@Drivecomau Sam, 100% agree. Problem is, kangaroos are the most likely animal, correct. What do people do in that circumstance, most swerve whilst braking hard (with all four wheels on ground), hence usually lose control then end up the statistic whilst said Kangaroo hops away. Do the same in Tank, same result, would wheels momentarily lifting be blamed, you bet it will be, but others crash irrespective of vehicle. Bottom line, Do Not Swerve, brake hard whilst dropping speed retaining control and if necessary strike the Roo and then you can drive on providing radiator remains intact. As I said previously, accelerating to 100klms an hour and braking at max force is not the norm, as per example set by journos. If you are driving at 100klms an hour and have to emergency brake to that extent you have not been focused on the surrounding, not driving with enough attention, diligence. Emergency braking is normally residential, below 80klms an hour. Sorry, don't see it as the issue it's being hyped up to be.
After doing a few defensive and off road training courses, A) you tend to hit what your looking at, so look at the gap B) kill the speed first ie don’t swerve C) once you’ve killed the speed take your foot off the the brake and head for the gap
Really enjoyed how this episode was filmed and produced...it was refreshingly different and informative and I liked the interactive Q & A...nice touch. Well done Sam...a great honest review 👍🙂
Some people will always make negative comments about any Chinese made car........normally the same people that have never actually driven one :-) I own 2 x Chinese made cars/vehicles and 1 x Japanese made truck...all 3 are great vehicles for the purpose I brought them for. 1 x LDV G10 van.......2 main selling points for me being price and both sides of the cargo area have sliding doors 1x CFMoto Trek 1000 ........2 main selling points for me being price and front/rear diff lockers as standard 1 x Hino 300 921 - because it was a truck that has the GVM and GCM that I needed Point is - at the end of the day you buy a vehicle that suits the purpose you want it for OR you compromise on purposes and therefore lose some functionality of a single purpose vehicle. I am seriously considering buying a Tank 300 Ultra (can't justify in my mind the $10,000 extra for the Hybrid Ultra) so that I have a decent town car that also doubles as a decent 4WD (at a great price) as I am not into rock crawling etc type 4WD......so a decent mix is fine for my purposes.
Nice. I've been surprised on the up side with my pertrol ultra over 7 months or so. I may fit some upgraded suspension, we'll see - there's plenty of high quality choices around now for the Tank. I travel solo and tow a jetski at times so no issues with the gvm for me but the suspension upgrade may upgrade that side as well as correcting the braking - not that I have any issue with that. Surprisingly comfortable and capable is my verdict so far.
I've had the Tank 300 petrol ultra for a year now, It's one of the best cars I've ever driven. The downside is the fuel consumption and the ELK keeps turning on everytime I get into the car (which I understand is a feautre in all new cars). The indicator stock can be annoying at first but you get a feel for it after while. With regards to quality my right rear tyre pressure keeps decreasing slightly faster than the other tyres. Not sure if it's a GWM thing or a tyre thing, haven't had time tot get it checked out as I live in remote WA. Early on I had some rocks lodged from trucks crack the top surface of my windshiled. Had it replaced with RAC. As for everything else it's been perfect. I've done over 15K and most of it is long distance on crappy country roads with some city driving and beach dune off roading. It's extremely smooth, extremely comfortable and enjoy getting in everytime. It's my meditation machine. Happy with my purchase so far. Will update this comment in another year.
Great review very honest l have look at fords, Toyota, nissan, and wrangler for the money and after test driving one of these how can anyone complain. Picking one of these babies up next monday for sure thanks again for reviewing this tank of a car well done GWM
Measured and balanced assessment, thank you. The Rubicon is 95% more expensive than the 300 Ultra, is it 95% better off road, or anywhere else for that matter.................
Live front axle with swaybar disconnect would allow the Rubicon to have better stability off-road, and better tyres will help as well. But 95% better? I don't think so. - Sam
@@shaun1900 Considering you're claiming an underpowered Chinese knock off of a Temu Bronco (with less off-road features) is 95% better than top of the line Jeep Wrangler, with actual no empirical evidence. Yeah you are a sad bot account.
Mate, dont know if you ever figured it out, but seat heating has physical buttons at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock adjacent the actual centre analogue clock!!!
They now retroactively give 7 years warranty 7 years capped servicing and 7 years roadside, so all tanks sold in Australia last year will be covered by that
Having done a lot of off road driving I'm confident in saying that tyres make a huge difference, be it a Series 1 Landrover or a 70 series Landcruiser.the vehicle is only as good as the tyres.
Test drove the hybrid version for a day n half ; impressed overall Strong points ; for a 4wd -nice refined drive ; very smooth ; nice suspension overall ; tech pretty good ; actual seat / drive comfort ; adaptive cruise cntl very good ; cabin quiet ; sunroof good ; POWER very good - tourque on steep hills ok ; fuel economy combined - 320 kms 37 liters used - this was not super bad for such a heavy vehicle - could have been worse - considering the power it had etc. Things not so good - sound system ( in ultra hydrid) just ok - muddy sound / quality so so ; fuel consumption for a hybrid - could be better ; lane keep and driver monitoring systs - not good at all ; vehicle weight vs power on tap - if used near full on less perfect roads can loose control rather quickly as speeds rise - care n restraint needed here ; interior overall quality - mix of good & cheapish - a lot of the plastics still have a cheap look n feel . Thats it ; overall was quite impressed and would definitely buy one if the price of the hybrid comes down near 50k. But until then , happy with my Subaroo Outback 😊
Looks really cramped in the front seat for anyone with wide hips. What's the driver seat width? I kind of like how the back seats fold. My old pathfinder used to have back seats like that and we could fit a double air mattress in the car for bad weather while camping. It was awesome.
Have owned my Tank 300 Ultra (Non electric version). for 12 months and 9000km now. Engine performance is fine, braking performance is in my opinion fine, have personally had no scary moments with rear wheel lift. Lane assist is crap not with standing some software update at first service that seems to have improved the system around town. For highway driving you just turn it off. Note though that Lane assist resets to on every time you turn the engine off and restart. My vehicle is largely used to transport 1 - 4 people. It would not be comfortable carrying 5 people and GVM would become an issue. The ZF gearbox is great and much better calibrated that the 9sp in my traded 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk. Fitted from new with Pirelli Scorpion ATR tyres. It's a good thing, great highway tourer and not to big to be cumbersome around town. It's also been 100% reliable. Would I recommend. Yep

Around 10 - 14 depending on conditions. As the engine frees up in the first 5,000km fuel economy improves. Look it takes 91 unleaded and provided you don't need to cart around 5 adults all the time or tow a large Boat/Caravan any of the alternatives are $20k more. It really is a good thing.
Hey! I am thinking about getting one and test drove it the other day. In my experience, the lane assist worked flawlessly-no issues at all. Yours might just need a software update when you take it in next time for a service!
LandCruiser has Dunlop Grandtreks in this spec, which is a middling all-terrain tyre (not super aggressive). But the Tank is more highway terrain. In heavier mud, you might start to notice a difference between the two - Sam
Exactly, haven't seen the review but can imagine the 2 vehicles would both do very well and tyres make a heck of a difference - only problem is the 76 is a heck of a lot more expensive !
Journalists get so much wrong or at least are not very informed. Did you know there is a whole menu you can customize with shortcuts!! So lane keep assist on or off, one button. And almost any other function you can add as a shortcut. On the home screen, you can see a little line at the top. Swipe down and voila. Lane keep assist can be customized so as to make it tamer. Work well then. I find the correction it makes, quite OK. It's not perfect but it's fine. The cup holder might not be bale to fit two large coffees as it's too narrow. Boot is small but I'll make it work for my purposes. Ride is good and it feels solid, like a tank would I suppose. Anyway, sometimes these reviews don't cover things like the shortcut which is important as it makes the experience much better
Please tell me which car has a great lane keeping assist system these days. They are all really annoying. 3 Taps on the screen every time you start the car fix the issue though
Great review. I'm here because i want to replace my 19-vitara with this, ours just too small for a family of three, when installed with child seat and whenever we bring the stroller there's not much we can put in. 😢 quite disappointed that this, too, has a small boot space.
The 397kg of cargo GVM is a significant practical limitation for the Tank 300. My family of 5 (with no luggage) would almost exceed the load limit!! That's terrible.... Even a Mazda 3 has a higher load capacity... It's even worse if you tow something. A 1 tonne trailer with 100kg of towbar load would drop the vehicles load capacity to less than 300kg.
It amazes me that you can keep referencing the Wrangler Rubicon as a comparison when the Wrangler is about 2x the price (here in NZ) of the Tank 300 - hardly fair mate ??
Gee, Ive been waiting for the new Prado but its over $100k here in NZ for the off road capable version - the Tank 300 hybrid is certainly gonna get a test drive :)

@@davidlukeqiao1582 I got the HEV in December ‘23, excited about the power-and yes, it does move! But there were some issues that really stood out to me. Things That Bugged Me: • ELK Settings: Turning off the ELK in the HEV takes at least 7 taps on the touchscreen-tedious every time. • Welcome Music & Voice Prompts: The welcome chime and random voice notifications, like when you switch to cruise control, felt unnecessary. • Inconsistent Power Delivery: The coordination between the battery and petrol engine was unpredictable, making the driving experience less smooth. Actual Issues I Encountered: 1. Strange Clicking Noise: There was an odd clicking sound when braking. 2. Inconsistent Startup Sequence: Sometimes, the car wouldn’t play the welcome sound or show the startup animation, making me wonder if it hadn’t fully shut down the last time. 3. Fan Behavior After Shutdown: The cooling fan would keep running for 5-10 minutes after turning off the car, even though I could lock it. In some cases, the fan would stay on even longer, only stopping if I opened the hood-then it would start up again as soon as I closed it. 4. Erratic Fan Cycling: At times, the fan would cycle on and off repeatedly, even with the car off-on for 5 seconds, off for 5 seconds, over and over. In the end, I returned the HEV and went for the petrol version instead. It’s been a huge improvement: a smoother 8-speed automatic transmission (not the 9-speed from the HEV), consistent power, and turning off the ELK is just a quick swipe and long press. No more unnecessary music or voices in cruise control mode. You lose a couple of cameras, but it’s more than enough. If you’re considering the HEV, be cautious-there’s at least a 50% chance these quirks might get to you, maybe not right away, but eventually! Its not difficult. Put an after market suspension in like tuffdog etc. Then problem solved. Or if you not going to do heavy off road. If any just fit a 25mm spacer shock front. And problem solved. Its not a big problem
Tank 300 , 500 amazing cars. People complain about the reliability of GWM but hey, these are definitely not the old days GWMs. It's probably too early to make assumptions. The only downside I see is the fuel consumption.
A lot of car manufacturers think it’s okay to forego buttons and switches and bury the functions in a menu in a flashy screen. They need to stop this. It’s dangerous by taking your eyes off the road for simple functions. I wish these were available in the USA. I love my Bronco, but I won’t ever drive with the top off. But at least I have buttons for the heated seats and drive mode selects
Possibly, but that will change other elements of the drive experience as well. It might also be changed by loading up the boot, but we understand there is a fix coming from GWM.
Sam, i was so looking forward to you trialling the "Pot Hole" driving mode whilst you had access to this 300. As I previously said, I'm persuaded to believing it recalibrates the traction control to be far more reactive to wheel spin off road but wanted it confirmed. Poor translation I think, should be titled "Off Road" mode. Never mind, someone will review it one day. Most reviews overlook the mode as "Whats That About"

Tell me one single time in your life you have accelerated to 100klm's an hour to jump on the brake pedal with maximum force, I hazard to say never. What's the issue? Too much being made of it. Think about it, to create that force GWM have installed really good Rotors, Calipers, Brake Pads & foremost, tyres that actually grip under such braking. Also, the vehicle was designed as a Hybrid, so with weight of battery pack this doesn't occur. Braking distance is as good as equivalent SUV's or better. It's totally a hyped up issue.
Have a look at the first toyota fortuner. It was a death trap. Fell over very easily specially normal driving around corners. What was the solution. Fit and after market suspension and it become an off road killer and sits like a sports car on the road
Toyota don't have any 4wd hybrids, so it's hard to compare like for like. New Prado will be a mild Hybrid which is not a true hybrid. Maybe compare corolla to the GWM Jolion hybrid

@xxznn_x6112 When I look at the video section showing the braking test, it seems anything but safe. I currently have a Pajero Sport (which I'd like to replace), and it is also soft but not that SOFT.
I went in for my 10k service on Monday and the EPS was updated, it's to assist with the ELK , I find it is getting better with fine tuning, and I don't even bother turning it off anymore
Wouldn’t a better comparison be with a Pajero Sport? Both around 50k to buy and both in a 5 seat option set up. Pajero with a 10 year warranty to the GWM 7. Fuel consumption substantially less in the diesel Pajero and much greater payload for the Pajero plus a well established dealership network outside the main cities. GWM residual values are pretty low so total ownership costs higher in the GWM. Comparing the Tank to vehicles nearly double the price seems disingenuous. And just one omission, you didn’t mention roof rail carrying capacity.

Brand prestige. It's better to say "I drive a jeep". I don't care and would pick the Tank without much thought, it's a steal but a lot of people are very brand conscious even now when the bigger brands are basically stealing from them with those upfront costs. .
Hi, I really love the styling of the tank 300 but I don’t understand why you don’t want to keep putting the small 2 L motors in these cars. Specially if you’re going to tow anything is like the tank 500 still has the same size motor and it is the same price as a Isuzu D max. Why would you do it? Apparently GWM are going to start putting a 2.4 L motor in next year starting to get realistic a bit like the Mitsubishi Triton. New one 2.4 L twin turbo. No thanks to many moving parts. Specially if you’re going around Australia and towing a caravan Anyway, that’s all my opinion, and it doesn’t matter much
Have you driven one? I had my doubts too, but was pleasantly surprised at how spritely it was, and thats comparing it to my 4L V6 pathfinder. I would guess it's the 8 speed gearbox that helps.
The braking issue is like all Chinese cars, they are made for comfort instead of handling, it looks like the front suspension needs a serious look at by GWM, other manufacturers do suspension tuning in Australia before releasing the vehicles here because the handling has been compromised by the poorly setup suspension.
I view this more like a vehicle that addresses the issues that put me off a Jimny (too small, slow, noisy). It seems unfair to compare it to Landcruiser and Wrangler, not the same target market.
We've done a video review from the Australian launch of the Tank 500 here: th-cam.com/video/a55zw2tZkBs/w-d-xo.html and we're going to do a more in-depth Tank 500 video soon, so make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss it.
Not impressed with your Q&A. Clearly your viewers are concerned about the suspension. Prefer the Suzuki or Jeep to this copy cat Chinese offering. I would also expect a $50k used Toyota would maintain a far superior valuation in 7 years time. Load them up without considerations of weight. Plus parts availability of Toyotas is second to none. BTW a top quality review Sams.

This is one of the best reviews I've seen on TH-cam. Practical, no nonsense, with a bit of fun thrown in at the end. Well done. The small load limit is a limitation that I wouldn't be able to live with. It's not high enough for a family wagon. Aside from that... its fairly impressive.
Guys can we just consider that this vehicle is 50k ....why are you comparing payloads and towing capacity to vehicles in a higher bracket.
Of course, price is a huge positive for this car. But I reckon the payload is too low for the application (regardless of price) - Sam
@@Vitto_homeslice Fair point. However, it's my job to point out shortcomings (as I see them) of test cars. And that's one of them. - Sam

Not worth crying about like other dump trolls do.
Well done Sam! One of the most comprehensive, honest and informative reviews on TH-cam!
Awesome! Thank you!
Complaining about the brake “issue “ constantly. , obviously these people are the haters.
Got my Tank ultra 6 months now ,nearly 10.000 km and average fuel consumption about 10 Liters for 100 km.
It’s all up to your way of driving.
Gwm usually drive better and consump less after 10k let me in if you having the same case
Gidday mate. In the market to buy a Tank300 but this review 100% puts me off. There is no way I am purchasing if the fuel consumption average is 11l or more.
5 months from your comment above - what is your average fuel consumption look like?
Read my first comment ; 10 liters for 100 km ! So 1 to 10 sometimes 1 to 10.5
Not 4 wder myself, but an informative test.
Exactly, if you have found yourself in the predicament of accelerating to 100klm's an hour and then jumping on the brake pedal with maximum force,
A) you have driven beyond your ability & necessity, hence
B) your focus as you said will be on what's closing in at a horrendous rate.
C) in the final act, whom will be measuring what distance the rear wheels were in the friggin air.
After such an event,
Your Focus will be, hope I didn't shit my pants cause that'll be embarrassing, ha!
It's possible to happen, in an emergency of an animal strike for example. But also not likely for a lot of users. - Sam
After doing a few defensive and off road training courses,
A) you tend to hit what your looking at, so look at the gap
B) kill the speed first ie don’t swerve
C) once you’ve killed the speed take your foot off the the brake and head for the gap
Really enjoyed how this episode was filmed and produced...it was refreshingly different and informative and I liked the interactive Q & A...nice touch. Well done Sam...a great honest review 👍🙂

Some people will always make negative comments about any Chinese made car........normally the same people that have never actually driven one :-)
I own 2 x Chinese made cars/vehicles and 1 x Japanese made truck...all 3 are great vehicles for the purpose I brought them for.
1 x LDV G10 van.......2 main selling points for me being price and both sides of the cargo area have sliding doors
1x CFMoto Trek 1000 ........2 main selling points for me being price and front/rear diff lockers as standard
1 x Hino 300 921 - because it was a truck that has the GVM and GCM that I needed
Point is - at the end of the day you buy a vehicle that suits the purpose you want it for OR you compromise on purposes and therefore lose some functionality of a single purpose vehicle.
If your interested, there are some very good deals on the Lux hybrid if keep an eye open
I bought one sub 50 k - well worth it
Don't complain about death traps when the speed limit in Australia is designed around a retirement village.
😂
How good is the AC in very hot weather? The GWM P Series, from what I heard has bad AC.
As a couple that aren't caravaners or bush bashers, we would be very happy with this Tank.
- Sam

Yes awesome review and great segment on questions its best to maintain it.
They now retroactively give 7 years warranty 7 years capped servicing and 7 years roadside, so all tanks sold in Australia last year will be covered by that
Did you do all the off-roading with the factory tyres? That’s impressive!
Yes, the Michelins stood up pretty well during our time with them. - Sam
Having done a lot of off road driving I'm confident in saying that tyres make a huge difference, be it a Series 1 Landrover or a 70 series Landcruiser.the vehicle is only as good as the tyres.
Sam, thanks for the informative review; it answers many questions! Q and A is a great idea :-)

Test drove the hybrid version for a day n half ; impressed overall
Strong points ; for a 4wd -nice refined drive ; very smooth ; nice suspension overall ; tech pretty good ; actual seat / drive comfort ; adaptive cruise cntl very good ; cabin quiet ; sunroof good ; POWER very good - tourque on steep hills ok ; fuel economy combined - 320 kms 37 liters used - this was not super bad for such a heavy vehicle - could have been worse - considering the power it had etc.
Yep

Hi mate, the only thing puttin gme off buying s the fuel consumption in this review, 15 to 18l p.100kms is ludacris!
What is your average fuel rating?
Around 10 - 14 depending on conditions. As the engine frees up in the first 5,000km fuel economy improves. Look it takes 91 unleaded and provided you don't need to cart around 5 adults all the time or tow a large Boat/Caravan any of the alternatives are $20k more. It really is a good thing.
Hey! I am thinking about getting one and test drove it the other day. In my experience, the lane assist worked flawlessly-no issues at all. Yours might just need a software update when you take it in next time for a service!

The comparison with the 76 Land Cruiser… Tank has highway tires and LC has all terrain it appears? Can you confirm?

Seat heating is a physical button on the centre aircon duct ? Not buried
about the braking issue (if it's a real issue) need to do moose test & hard braking in a road curve, that's will clear everything
There are a lot of moose tests done in China, unfortunately they are not on TH-cam…

Rubicon has never pretended to be a SUV. It’s a 4wd for people that enjoy off-roading.
Really like the Q and A feature
At what speed were you breakng? Both of back wheels lifted in the air. Is that even safe on highway?
Please tell me which car has a great lane keeping assist system these days. They are all really annoying.
3 Taps on the screen every time you start the car fix the issue though
There's plenty, but they are often from brands that are much more expensive and have been implementing that kind of tech for a decade now. - Sam

Great review. I'm here because i want to replace my 19-vitara with this, ours just too small for a family of three, when installed with child seat and whenever we bring the stroller there's not much we can put in. 😢 quite disappointed that this, too, has a small boot space.
Vitara will be hard pressed against jolin 300 will be few steps up
The 397kg of cargo GVM is a significant practical limitation for the Tank 300.
Nothing but complement if not punching above the weight I presume nit picking
Lane Keep Assist - set it to lane centring and you never have an issue again

Don’t get the HEV had mine for 9 months, many issues - petrol is the way to go
@@mickspecialCan you please let us know what kind of issues you have with your HEV? I am looking to buy one, either petrol or HEV. Do you know the difference between ultra petrol and ultra HEV? Thank u
@@davidlukeqiao1582 I got the HEV in December ‘23, excited about the power-and yes, it does move! But there were some issues that really stood out to me.
Things That Bugged Me:
• ELK Settings: Turning off the ELK in the HEV takes at least 7 taps on the touchscreen-tedious every time.
• Welcome Music & Voice Prompts: The welcome chime and random voice notifications, like when you switch to cruise control, felt unnecessary.
• Inconsistent Power Delivery: The coordination between the battery and petrol engine was unpredictable, making the driving experience less smooth.
Actual Issues I Encountered:
The petrol version has been a far better experience for me.

Maybe a modified front suspension could negate the rear wheel lift-off during HARD high speed braking? Just my opinion.
Possibly, but that will change other elements of the drive experience as well. It might also be changed by loading up the boot, but we understand there is a fix coming from GWM.

No diesel. The only thing stopping me from buying this suv.

Hi GWM, how about talking to Toyota and look at the Carolla Sedan and hybrid tech for fuel consumption
Toyota don't have any 4wd hybrids, so it's hard to compare like for like. New Prado will be a mild Hybrid which is not a true hybrid. Maybe compare corolla to the GWM Jolion hybrid

Specially if you’re going around Australia and towing a caravan Anyway, that’s all my opinion, and it doesn’t matter much
Maybe the emissions regulations coming into force in many countries?
Have you driven one? I had my doubts too, but was pleasantly surprised at how spritely it was, and thats comparing it to my 4L V6 pathfinder. I would guess it's the 8 speed gearbox that helps.
Payload? Most touring vehicles have a GVM upgrade.
Imagine constantly reviewing cars on TH-cam and your integrity is challenged because you didn’t whinge about cup holders enough
Haha, I've had worse don't worry - Sam
Is it big enough to sleep in the back ?
max to 177cm if you took the backseat cushion off
@@clayliu2279 I think there are bracket replacements that allow you fast remove the back seat and with a box under you can get 193mm length
The braking issue is like all Chinese cars, they are made for comfort instead of handling, it looks like the front suspension needs a serious look at by GWM, other manufacturers do suspension tuning in Australia before releasing the vehicles here because the handling has been compromised by the poorly setup suspension.
Fun drive
The payload issue ?? What s the big deal - just upgrade front and rear suspensions ; fixed ??
I like the Q&A and longer time review. Pretty much dig out all bad and good on this car/truck. 👍👍
I'm sure there might be some details we missed, but we tried to be exhaustive on this one. - Sam
I hope Mitsubishi also can make a pajero Tank much better than GWM tank, better gearbox higher torque and bullet proof
Sam, the question is....Would you buy a
Tank 300?
I view this more like a vehicle that addresses the issues that put me off a Jimny (too small, slow, noisy). It seems unfair to compare it to Landcruiser and Wrangler, not the same target market.
Thats what people do with Chinese made,it need to be half the price of competitor, but better, even if on par,you still get criticism.
Reviewer will be speachless if compare in price segment

Tank 500 review next? 🔥🤘
We've done a video review from the Australian launch of the Tank 500 here: th-cam.com/video/a55zw2tZkBs/w-d-xo.html and we're going to do a more in-depth Tank 500 video soon, so make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss it.
It is a successful vehicle
Let's see what you think in 3 years
You do realise that these cars are running around china which is a country of over a billion people, consumers just as demanding as western countries
$50k is a bit much. I would have thought it would be in the mid 30’s for a non-hybrid 2 liter.
Not impressed with your Q&A. Clearly your viewers are concerned about the suspension. What you should have done prior to filming was to pose all those questions to a suspension engineer instead of coming here to say "I'm not a suspension engineer" and giving them no answers for their main concerns. Please try and do the work before hand next time.
Thanks!
I don't think a suspension engineer would be able to really say much more than what I did to be honest with you, but I take your point and feedback. It's actually tricky to find such a person who isn't affiliated with a brand already. - Sam
Is GWM Tank 300 a Chinese Ford Bronco knockoff?
It was on sale a year before current Bronco was even revealed to public😂
@thearlongpark when was it on sale because I only saw its promo in in 2023, whereas the Bronco's at least 3 - 4 years ago? I could be mistaken. I saw this Bronco shape before I saw tank 300's. Perhaps YT prioritoses American content before Chinese.
@@1NG_ It was revealed in December 2019 in china and then start selling early 2020 and delivery was mid 2020.
@@1NG_ remember,Australia has 26m people, and in a remote part of the world,a small market.China produce 30m cars/annum,only 15% goes to export market,China exceeded Japan in export numbers in 2023,Japanese car export takes 57% of its total production. So many models in chinese domestic market that don't make it here.according to Wikipedia,Tank 300 launched in 2020,one year before Bronco
Thank you @thearlongpark and @user-lo3eu9it2b for the clarification
27:20 definitely not perfect? Nothing is perfect mate.
Aussies watch out seek legal ….🆘❌💯♨️⚠️⚠️NEW & RUSTY
I have that same GWM tank300 .. I brought mine brand new FEB 1st 2024.. days later I looked underneath.. RUST COVERED. It was brand new 🆕. GWM responded “ yeh that’s normal and not our problem but urs for not taking care of it”!!
How is this my fault if it was rusty before I brought it?
Pls get all cars checked b4 buying .
These tanks or all GWM vehicles are moved in open crates on ships 🚢 in the northern sea.🌊 some fall into the sea.. waves crash over . They also sit at sea waiting to dock for months , sometimes open to all elements. They are not rust proof at all! Nor made to be near ocean. $50,000 later and 6 mths later I’m still fighting this bulshit.! I’m in 🇦🇺 Aus. DONT BUY GWM anything . U WILL BE VERY SORRY 😢 AS I AM.
My first new car dream smashed . Australia government aren’t motoring these cars anymore!!
You lost me at the fuel economy, its 2024 not 1964, those numbers are ridiculous. Good looking car yes but geez mate nothing under 12lt per 100km?
If you have to slam on your brakes at 100kmh you were going too fast for the situation in the first place
Try and test a Toyota prado when braking hard at 100kph, way worse then this tank 300.
how dare you
@@linny-h7y😊😁
Funny reviewer....s missed it
Jeep is double the price, how can you compare them.
Means is too good💪🏼
U may try 4 sprinf buffers costing $35 a pair see if that solves the rear wheel lifting on heavy braking. Easy cheap do not alter the ride and U can reverse the set up in minutes by pulling them off.
Alos compare cars with similar COST not those that are twice the price, U do not compare a Ferrari to a BMW simple as that. If an expensive car do not mgive U what a cheap car does they ought to be Punished!
I wonder how many propaganda bots are in the comments here.
You have to use it for at least 5-7 years to know what is the problem of this car
It's already been on the market for 4 years in China and people have taken it all over africa and siberia without any problems.
The quality of Chinese cars is very good now, and has been tested in the Chinese market with a population of 1.4 billion. There is no need to worry at all. Please do not approach the issue with stereotypes.
This is true, but we don't have that luxury unfortunately. But I'm really interested to see what the reputation is like after a decade or so in Australia - Sam
@@308_Negra_Arroyo_Lanestop your lies. Chinese engineering is sh1t. The sheet metal is paper thick, the engines have short lifespan, the suspension falls apart.
@@Wasengenyie what utter bollocks

People think this looks like a jeep wrangler? 😂
they find anything to relate if it's chinese, unless they come up with square wheels.brothers and sisters copy each other, don't forget chinese invented a lot of things but never criticise others using it,thats how humans improve, maybe thats why Australia likes monopoly, look at bunnings,
China just recently became super power of car manufacturing so a bit of here and there from established brand is normal😁
Resale value which put lots people off, as no one wants a second hand cheap copy vehicle.
Chinese cars no thanks
The vents are gross.
Watching the rear wheel lift off the ground was enough for me. How can u promote an obviously dangerous 💩box
