"My face is so hot" I mean you don't need ant bites for this fact to be true. This is the price introverts must pay for touching grass. You are a brave soldier, comrade. We appreciate you for standing up to an empire
Fun fact! If it's not all one colony, or if you have another colony on the property, a great natural way to get rid of ants is by starting an ant war! Yes really! If you transplant ants from two different nearby colonies into each other, they will effectively declare war on each other and destroy each other's colonies. 😁
Judging from your clip of the “mosquito bite”, it looks like you were having an allergic reaction well before the ant bites. I work outdoors and I can tell you personally that scratches from bramble bushes have caused old tick bites to itch again, that “mosquito bite” is probably what started the shock response in your body to the ant bites.
I'm fighting the same battle with ants in one of my beds and the sorrow in that "I just wanna grow carrots man" hit to my core. That terro bait didn't do anything to them. I am suffering.
I swear by Terro. It just takes a few days to wipe out the colony. Initially you'll see more ants as it attracts them, but slowly you'll see less and less until they're gone.
@@chinniebaby Yes! Terro is the absolute best! It definitely takes time to to work and you often have to use several of those bait traps for it to actually be enough to wipe out whole large colony, which also takes time so it’s not an immediate solution. @@AlbinoAxolotl I think different colonies respond to different baits. I tried the terro liquid ones w sugar, and only 5-10 ants would go for it. Then I tried the solid traps, which were protein based, and they wiped them out in days.
im glad you thought of taking benadryl immediately. i got a sunburn the other day that resulted in an INSANE itch and it wasnt until i researched that i realized it has a lot of uses other than sniffly allergies, and it helped so much. wish i had thought of it sooner
It also can help decrease inflammation in general even if it isn't caused by any form of allergic reaction, or at least it can in dogs. Once a year or less my dog has a flare of inflammation in her spine which isn't serious but causes discomfort. CBD oil works for it but not instantly so I gave her an appropriate dose of benadryl for 3 days and it worked better than expected. She didn't need to take any steroids this time around to get the inflammation down which is always preferred. (so many bad side affects to watch for with it)
I've had hell's itch before and nothing was working, you don't really get benadryl where I'm from, and I eventually took to put boiling hot water on myself because the pain was better than the itch. We eventually found some medicine for nerve pain that usually used for shingles and thankfully that helped
Pls, if you have a several reaction to something people normally don't have such a severe reaction to, PLEASE CALL YOUR DOCTOR ! Especially when you live alone, your body could go into shock and your airways could close up.

You should try lemongrass oil sometime. It's super toxic to insects, they die on contact when you spray them, but it's harmless to humans and smells good
@@DoorsToHideBehind156 I figure it's faster/more humane than slow death by poison. And I don't have to worry about any other cute creepy crawly accidentally getting killed. 😁
Please be careful, you had an anaphylactic reaction to the ant bites. The next time you get bit you could have an even worse reaction. These reactions tend to get more severe with every exposure. Thank you for uploading this video and sharing what you were experiencing, it's good for people to know the consequences of dealing with ants but also shows what it's like when someone has an allergic reaction.
One of my earliest memories of going down south to NC was when I was playing in my grandparents backyard and stepped on what I thought was a hill in the mulch to try and see over a fence, but was actually a massive fire ant colony. I had this same reaction probably just due to the sheer number of ants that bit me. I remember I felt this super hot, painful stinging itchiness, and moving made it worse. I had to lay on the bed in a dark room covered in cold wet towels crying for the next few hours. I would say it was the 2nd most painful event in my life, after drowning in my lungs from pneumonia
I heard it was suppose to be boiling water. If the initial drowning didn't work, maybe try boiling the water preexecution. I actually think fire ants make little ant rafts with their bodies to float. AntsCanada taught me that lol.
Be careful using any kind of poisons in places where you're going to grow food. Drowning is good. So is diatomaceous earth. It takes a little time to really kick in and do its job, as the insects have to get into it before they croak. I have similar reactions to insect bites. My sympathies.
Our friendly neighbourhood gardener defeated by his own garden. I'm looking forward to seeing the character arc from deadly overgrown patches of grass to a lovely carrot garden!! 🥕
Omg i completely understand this feeling I worked with a landscaping company and developed a severe reaction to most of the plants I had to remove the most severe being the poison ivys I wish I had gone to urgent care instead of trying a bunch of topical tricks that proved to do nothing. Even if you don’t go to the ER urgent care can be faster and very effective in treating things like hives and skin allergies
awww i’m so sorry alex, I feel so baddd. I hope you feel betterr, and on a side note there is a check engine light on in your car so you might wanna check I that out!
I recommend Gold Bond Extra Strength for itching (poison ivy, bites, etc). As a gardener, I always keep some on hand. If you don’t want to be evaluated by an allergist (take the video if you do), I recommend a gardening buddy next time. After repeated stings people can become sensitized and future reactions can be much worse. Years ago I had a roommate that woke up in a hospital. He said the last thing he remembered was looking down to see fire ants on his feet. Something like 2% of US adults have a potentially lethal allergy to fire ant stings.
You seem to have fencing around the garden. Try taking your hens in there on supervised visits ( if you worry about hawks, etc.) Hens love to eat loads of ants and food grade diatomaceous earth is good for hens’ dust baths too. It rids their feathers of mites and other pests. My hens decimated a giant ant hill in my yard a few weeks ago. Anyway, it’s just an idea to consider and doesn’t involve poisons. Hens will eat ticks too. Hope you feel better.
Anaphylaxis sucks, been in the hospital a few times from it. Good thing you did what you could, hopefully you can get a solution for those ants that doesn't involve you getting a reaction again.
For the rest of this colony- ducttape. Seriously. Get good sturdy work boots and ductape the top of them to your socks, and then your pants over the boots. Cover the holes for the laces as well. Ductape around your waist as well to secure your shirt to the top of your pants. Wear long sleeves and gardening gloves, and tape the wrists closed. Just do everything you can to keep them from getting access to your skin. Also I hope you remembered to turn the hose off.
Diatomaceous earth only works when dry. Also, bigger bags, cheaper at tractor supply if you have one. Oh and if you get bit again like that you could have a worse reaction. Stay safe, we'd miss you!
For future reference, Benadry (or the generic of it, which is Diphenhydramine) come in ointments and lotions. Benadryl ointment is is the only thing that keeps me from scratching mosquito bites until I literally draw blood. The topical stuff relieves the itch faster than the pills.
I love going to hardwear stores. I just have to stand and look look lost for like two seconds, and at least four employees come running to help. 😌 I don't even have to try
poor Alex hope you feel better soon! I grew up playing with fire ants cuz they were absolutely everywhere at my family farm, and the only thing (aside from poison) that would kill them was boiling hot water. I used to literally pour boiling water into a colony and that killed them real fast. But not sure how you'd do that with a colony that big.
My face itches watching this. xD Glad you're okay. You may have lost the battle but you haven't lost the war or however the saying goes. Bring reinforcements!

I'm going to really try to make sure I had accomplished that before I'm 40 LOL. Mostly I think it would just be awesome to have chickens and possibly a goat for goat milk. They're great.. and hilarious.
Dish soap is a great way to kill ants. I have an attachment for my hose thats meant for washing cars and I just load it up with dawn and spray foam from a good distance away. Good for spiders and Flys too.
Had a similar experience… except my foe was a shrub. I trimmed a sweet viburnum, immediately felt kind of itchy, took a break, began to have a hard time breathing and my eyes almost puffed shut. Over. A. Freaking. Bush!!!!!!! I did not finish my gardening that day
Cover all exposed skin (especially on your legs) and wear bug repellant (must contain DEET). I'd recommend spraying your shoes with DEET bug repellant as well. Always be careful that you do not get stung by them. Since you had a pretty severe reaction, I'd try to get an EpiPen jic and to talk to your doctor about your reaction. The last thing anyone would want is an anaphylactic reaction! As for the ant problem, I'd recommend using a vinegar mixture. You're going to have to take a rake to the anthill and level it (you must be prepared to pour the vinegar mixture prior to this. Ants work very fast once their mound is under attack). Mix a solution consisting of equal parts white vinegar and liquid dish soap. Pour it onto the hill. Don't be surprised if they come weeks later to rebuild the hill or rebuild one nearby. You may have to do this several times to get rid of a large colony. They're very dedicated. I'd then recommend using cinnamon to deter them from entering your garden bed later. Others have included other ways to deter/eradicate them, and I suggest using multiple methods at once for the best outcome. Good luck!
You should try using lemongrass oil sometime. They sell it in spray bottles at the store; it kills insects like Raid does (pretty much instantly when they get hit), but it's harmless to humans and smells nice. It also discourages them from returning to that spot.
As someone who is dumb enough that I willed my way through mild anaphylaxis multiple times at my pet store job because I didn’t want to draw attention to myself by asking for an ambulance, this hits pretty hard
As a person with chronic hives (I just have an allergic reaction for no reason) I usually end up wearing very little and I lie on a cold floor (like wood or tile) preferably by the ac. Adding ice and water seems to make it worse and itching it is the worst thing you can do
Honestly it was kind of like drinking water after eating something spicy, it spread the feeling with only temporary relief. I'll def try and spread eagle on the tile next time
@@GoHerping have you ever been allergy tested for fire ants? you looked like me after eating cashew lol... glad you took the benadryl they can also cause anaphylaxis
I was camping in a tent after setting up no problem. The following day I had a huge red ant nest too the side.. I freaked out. I wasn’t was not worried about myself but, worried about my dog. I took the starter fluid for starting a charcoal grill. I have even used gasoline. I put it in their hole and along they ant trails struck a match and set on fire. Saw a few ants. Tat when you take super long lighter to one we’re survivors. Works great!
Aww so all of that DE he used became wasted and useless when he wet everything with the hose. Lol lesson learned you can't battle an ant colony in one afternoon. Recoup, and try again!
In 4 grade I fell into an anthill at school and both hands went directly into and anthill under the dirt, and I had at least a thousand bites up and down my arms, head, and torso

Good luck!
Gardening is tough definitely not the easiest 😅
10:00 I thought bro was smacking a bong to ease the pain😂😂😂
You should try using lemongrass oil sometime. They sell it in spray bottles at the store; it kills insects like Raid does (pretty much instantly when they get hit), but it's harmless to humans and smells nice. It also discourages them from returning to that spot.
I looked almost exactly the same when I had medication-induced eczema and it SUCKED. I hope this passes quickly.
You took meds to get eczema, or it was a side effect?
@@GoHerping It was a nasty side effect.
As someone who is dumb enough that I willed my way through mild anaphylaxis multiple times at my pet store job because I didn’t want to draw attention to myself by asking for an ambulance, this hits pretty hard
Damn bro you ok ???? I haven’t watched the vid yet but i hope you get better
Sounds like ace is the place to shop!
Spiderman made it seem easy getting his super powers after getting bit
Hey friend! DE doesnt work after its gotten wet, so the rain was siding with the ants on this one sadly 😅
Damn bro glad your ok but that sucks
Dish soap and water there are lots of natural dish soaps, and it worked great for my potted plants
I've gone through gallons of dish soap with no noticeable difference. It's time for the big guns.
You should’ve let your chickens free range the garden area for a week or two. They would’ve taken care of grass, more fertilizer, and bug control 😉
Two words “flame thrower” hope u feel better
I remember being stung by fireants. My foot swelled up to 2.5 times original size. It hurt so bad. I had a 100 degree fever.
Poor Alex, hope you get better and win the war
This is like a found footage horror movie
That was a pretty good reaction! I work for an allergist and I think you would benefit from seeing one- they may want you to have an epinephrine pen!
Never , never let that many fire ants sting you . Use “ 10% Seven Dust “ . It becomes inert after 7 days and is approved for vegetable garden use .
psa, the "10%" in Sevens Dust is Diatomaceous Earth (DE). Also, psa, DE is effective until it gets wet. ✌
Aww so all of that DE he used became wasted and useless when he wet everything with the hose. Lol lesson learned you can't battle an ant colony in one afternoon.
Recoup, and try again!
those ants used psychic warfare youre gonna need a professional lol
Omg I hope your ok
Diatomaceous earth only works if you can keep it dry I believe.
People: touch grass
Me: (plays this video for them)
Came for the corn snake care video, stayed for the ant drama
In 4 grade I fell into an anthill at school and both hands went directly into and anthill under the dirt, and I had at least a thousand bites up and down my arms, head, and torso
