    1) Napoleon is portrayed as a simp and a jerk, weird guy.
    2) Napoleon is said to have been incredibly charismatic and energetic, which was why soldiers were willing to die in battles and fight for him, to follow him. You couldn't feel it at all from the movie.
    3) I think Phoenix is a great actor, but he doesn't fit Napoleon.
    4) If there were a few historical inaccuracies in the film, I won't say anything, but there is complete nonsense in this film, and there is a lot of it.
    5) Few battle scenes, which are also completely out of place and don't make sense, but full of scenes where Napoleon f**ks his wife like a dog or a hare, I didn't get it... xd
    And I could go on...
The only thing I can praise are the costumes, the camera, the music at the Battle of Slavkov was good. Otherwise total waste. This movie really had potential. If someone made a really good series about Napoleon (because he had a very rich life and it's impossible to cram everything into one movie), it would be amazing. Maybe we'll see it someday.

the movie couldn't explain how complex the french revolutionary wars were, nor they will ever be able to explain how complex Napoleon's story is because there is not enough time. They skip the context and the results are kinda confusing. The spectators won't understand what is happening if there is no context, which explains why this movie is not that good... Trying to give a simple summary of french revolution will not work as well... This is the reason why a lot of people think robespierre was the head of the terror, cuz they watched simplified history, not the true context of everything. And no, robespierre was not the head of the terror, the terror was just a succession of terrors which a lot of people took part of, rbespierre was just one of them. Tho the ones who accused rbespierre of all the reign of terror did that so they could hide their own involvement in the terror, and they did that to avenge danton, which was a jacobin as well who was gu*llotined because of a jacobin twelve committee influence which rbespierre was part in, tho he was not directly involved. Rbespierre wanted to continue the terror, but punish also the extremes of the terror. The thermidoriens wanted to continue the terror but in their own style, but rbespierre tried to add virtue to this terror by also targetting the members of the government. But the thermidoriens will turn against rbespierre and call him a dictator, because rbespierre (the incorruptible) wanted to punish their crimes. Napoleon will agree as much and will call rbespierre to be the scapegoat of the terror, and that the real monsters (thermidoriens) survived the 9th thermidor (execution of rbespierre). In fact, the worst period of the reign of terror happened under the thermidoriens with the most people gu*llotined. That day, Napoleon was a jacobin and will be arrested by the thermidoriens for his bonds with the rbespierre family. Napoleon will later say : History is written by the victors (referencing the thermidoriens as the victors who blamed rbespierre for all). This quote will later be hjacked by Winston Churchill. And to our day, because we hear simplified history, a lot of simplified history channels still live under thermidorien propaganda.

I'm super fascinated with the Napoleonic era and this movie, while it looks great, is very frustrating, if you want a better look at Napoleon's career, I seriously suggest reacting to Epic History TV's on-going series on the Napoleonic era, I've listed down the chronological viewing order below (because they haven't been releasing them in chronological order and it can be a bit of a mess trying to figure out on where to start if you're unfamiliar with the timeline):

Habituated from their infancy to passive submission of body and mind to their kings and priests, they are not qualified when called on to think and provide for themselves; and their inexperience, their ignorance and bigotry make them instruments often in the hands of the Bonapartes and Iturbides to defeat their own rights and purposes." ~Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Adams (1823)

I assure you Maggy they could have done so much better… I love that you watch history movies. I don’t want to be the one criticizing but they cannot show Napoleon in a more opposite way of who he was.
Napoleon was young energetic genius and full of charisma. He was 24 at Toulon and there was not 2.000 English troops but 20.000 I have no idea where they get there numbers it’s ridiculous…
He never left Egypt for Josephine he had affairs of his own. So many inaccurate facts that it’s just humiliating to French people as they say. Historians hated this movie
Also all the best moments of his career are left out…
Campaign in Italy which is one of the best campaigns in history
Then all the battles between 1806 and 1809
Napoleon was a genius that won 81 out of 86 battles. They couldn’t even get the number of battles right…
If it was a fiction no problem but they chose to talk about Napoleon you need a little bit of accuracy
And even when all was lost after campaign in Russia in took 2 years for all of Europe to make him fall.
    Battle of Leipzig
And the campaign to save France with young recruits only 50.000 men against 600.000 troops and still he did miracles and assured his place at the top of military commanders.
Also no mention of his elite troop the most feared in Europe : the imperial old guard 💂‍♀️
Anyways looking forward to Spielberg’s HBO show on Napoleon in 2025 because this was unfortunately not great..
It could easily have been the most epic movie of the past 20 years and instead it was long and boring.. so many great names in that period, so many heroic people but they showed us this sort of comedy…
Anyways glad you find interest in Napoleon but the movie didn’t show Napoleon as he was
Maybe you won’t want to watch but epic history tv Napoleon show really the greatness of Napoleon in really well done videos
The battlefields were miles long and had 100 of thousands of men and this movie it looks like there is only 5.000 men against 5.000

This movie is not "bad", but also not good in terms of portraying Napoleon as a character. The battle scenes are great, the filmmaking also on point in terms of modern filmmaking, the actors do a good job (could've been better, but still really good). Napoleon is the most famous person in the history of France, and - other than one other man with silly moustache in Germany - in a good way, despite him also being a dictator and a ruler of a country. And that's what is missing in the portrayal here. It's not possible to capture Napoleons life in one movie, but it's the decision to show his love life, that killed the movie. His scenes with Josephine are mostly empty and boring. The battle scenes reduced to some major key scenes. He completely lacks the charisma, he was known for and we don't get much of his brilliant strategy decisions. He was a dictator, but he was one of the few rulers that actually cared for his country, he was constantly working and did many good things, it's not like everything he did was battles and invading other countries. Seeing a portrayal other that what we got could've been much more interesting and actually what many have been waiting for. The french people are probably disappointed in what they got here. I feel like it's a mix of dry episodes from his life. The directors cut might be better, but still hoping for a better portrayal in the upcoming TV series.
The 2002 series does it a bit better, even though they didn't have the budget for the big battles.
As for now, the Oversimplified version seems to be the nr. 1 :D

    • @bdleo300
      @bdleo300 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Oh it is bad. It's atrocious in portraying Napoleon as a character. Battle scenes are ridiculous (napoloen leading a cavalry charge???). BBC tv show from 2016. portrayed the battle of Borodino 10x much better with 10x less budget. Filmmaking is also mediocre, or example that dark/gloomy tint in every Scott's movie, Gladiator, KoH, the Last duel, Prometheus (ok that one wasn't in Europe lol). From historical perspective nothing in this movie is really accurate, battles, politics, characters, dates, events (for example his speech at the coronation is totally wrong), everything is distorted, wrong or they just ignore it. From purely cinematic perspective the movie is confusing, boring and totally pointless.

It is my contention that the act of responding to films from 2022 onwards may not hold significant novelty or impressiveness. This is primarily due to the fact that a considerable number of individuals, including myself, are yet to catch up with recent cinematic releases. Therefore, it would be more intriguing and beneficial to focus on reacting to films released prior to 2020, particularly those from earlier decades spanning the 1900s to the 1990s. Such an approach would not only cater to a broader audience but also provide a richer historical perspective on the evolution of cinema.

The Battle of Austerlitz (Three Emperors) December 2nd, 1805, was probably Napoleon's finest victory. Immortalized by Napoleon anticipating his opponents' movements and Marshal Davout's III Corps' timely arrival to strengthen the French army's 'weak' right flank. The scene in the film did happen, but near the end of the battle when the Allies were already retreating, but less than 200 soldiers drowned, not the thousands depicted or by Napoleon's propaganda machine at the time.

Despite Joséphine and Napoleon's divorce, He insisted she kept her title as Empress (highlights who was the Queen and soulmate of his life) and an annual income. Further, Napoleon was still on very good terms with his stepchildren. Later on, St. Helena: "I truly loved my Joséphine, but I didn't respect her."
Marie-Louise of Austria, even Napoleon in exile on Elba in 1814, didn't lose sleep over her, especially when she told him she was divorcing Napoleon.
In fact, the Duke of Wellington never met Napoleon face to face (real pity really, "what if" between two giant heavyweights). It was due in part to Wellington's determined persistence and respect of Napoleon as a fellow General that the British spared him execution and instead sent him to St. Helena. But Wellington did meet two of his opponents from Spain and Portugal (Peninsula war, 1808-1813), Marshals Andre Masséna and Jean Soult with a friendly visit and an unexpected encounter at Queen Victoria's coronation in 1838.

Your commentary, the range of emotions this movie has put you through - this is what elevates this experience and makes it unique.

Gee, Magy, so nice to see your interest in history and famous figures of the past. You certainly picked one of the more colorful and controversial. I too enjoyed the movie and the story of his rise and relationship with Josephine. I have seen other movies about him and read his history in books and school. But I liked this humanist take on his story. Glad you enjoyed it too. Thanks for bringing this movie to us, another movie I probably would have skipped w/o you. 💕

I only have a general knowledge of Napoleon, so this movie was decent. It was funny that while watching your reaction, you had the same reaction I had in the theater. I can't believe you didn't think Josephine seemed satisfied after Napoleon thrust his hips into her for 30 seconds lol. They did have an historic love like Anthony and Cleopatra.

The tragedy of a Man who cannot be completely with the love of his life, that Maiden who gives meaning to existence, due to his patriotic duty of giving all his time for a higher cause, the nation.
A man so influential as Bonaparte needed a Goddess to his side, and Joséphine was all that for him💔.

Napolean believed on this message. for those going through the comments, I've got good news. God is good because He gives His blessings to everyone, whether they be good or bad. but everyone has at least, told a lie, or stolen something in their life. and that makes them sinners, and God will not allow sinners in heaven; in His presence, because He is holy. so, God has to punish the sinners in hell, because God is severe and just. but God is also love and He made a way for some to be saved from His wrath. here are the steps:
    1. admit that you're a sinner and are lost.
    2. realize that the penalty of sin is death (hell).
    3. believe that Jesus (who is God) died on the cross, was buried, then rose from the grave, to pay the penalty for man's past, present, and future sins.
    4. trust Christ alone as your Savior, and not on your own good deeds to get you to heaven (nor a combination of your faith and self-righteous works).
    5. pray to God NOW that you're accepting Christ's free gift of salvation because if you die before making this decision, it's too late, and you'll 🔥🥵😈
    6. and to be a disciple, tell people about Jesus, read the bible, go to church regularly to know God's will for your life.
