I really hate when 139 defenders twist Erwin's word to justify the ending. Eren's goal was never about eradicating hate from the world or from human nature, his goal is the safety of his people. So yes, humanity will find a way to fight among themselves, but that's not the point of Eren's goal, and that has nothing to do with Eren.

Yeah, at first in season 1 he wanted to kill all the titans and kept that mentality up until season 2 but from season 3 onward he was more concerned about the safety of his friends and family, especially when he inherited the memories from kissing Historia's hand and learnt how garbage the outside world is.
That goal of his ended midseason. Titans weren't threatening Paradis Island, at least as common enemy (except during counter attack). His goals had changed drastically. And we all saw it.
I think it's not about Eren's goal, but more about the initial story's goal, like a hint that the story will end if this goal is achieved. I don't think erasing Titans was a bad idea. It should still be done. It's just executed poorly. The method to erase it and the reason behind it are ridiculous. It should've been just that they were completely in a situation where they didn't need the power anymore, free from war, thus free from Titans too.

Before that he only got glimpses of the future with Attack Titan's ability, just like shifters get past memories. Now I don't want to use 139 as evidence because idk how accurate some things are, but he said that past present and future were existing at once so he really did see most of it. Not sure if Isayama meant to do this, or it was just added for 139 to make somewhat sense but yeah, at some point he did see it. It might have been incomplete because he was seeing too much info at once and forgot some of it, like when we are dreaming, or because he can only see some events leading up to his death.

The funny thing really is that after witnessing twice how the rest of the world was eager to destroy the eldians, Eren still went with his plan of killing 80% of the world and let Armin do the peace talk. Also, how did he think making a Helos 2.0 was a good idea ? He knows better than anyone else how the head of the Tybur family ended up. This family was living as aristrocrats while the rest of their people was hated and despised. And this is the exact same thing that happens with the Alliance and the rest of the eldians. Some are heroes while the rest are monsters. Instead of putting an end to this vicious circle, Eren initiated a new one, repeating the exact same mistakes. Eren said to Historia that the war won't end until one party is anihilated and yet still let Armin try to talk for peace, that's just doesn't make sense. Eren basically gave up his duty to let others finish it. Yet, he already learnt what happens if you trust your friends rather than yourself. He blamed himself in the very first season, after witnessing the whole Levi squad die when he had the power to save them. Even in the cave during the uprising arc, he decided to take action and believe in himself to save everyone. I guess in the end, he really didn't learn from the mistakes from the past and didn't really care for his people.
I don't know why people feel a need to lie and say the ending is great or amazing. It's not, from a writing stand point it is objectively bad. I don't care if someone likes the ending despite how bad it is - everyone has their guilty pleasures. But to act as if it's a cohesive or decent ending is just a lie. They need to stop deluding themselves. The only honest and objective Anime TH-camr I saw actually pointing out the faults of the ending was AnimeBallsDeep.
I’m convinced the writer ditched Eren and Historia destroying the world half way through the final arc. It was set up so perfectly then does a complete 180 and destroys Eren and Historia character. Historia is a waste of panels and potential. The whole baby drama was a complete joke unless Eren was the father and used that baby to wipe out humanity being the first born free child of the new world named Ymir. Eren in the end being riddled in guilt of wiping out humanity and the people he wanted to save the most.
I can't believe that others actually argued that Eren's development was just a front. We see him LITERALLY IN HIS OWN MIND AND INTROSPECTION ABOUT HIS THOUGHTS. Hell, we got a whole ass arc of him in the PATHs world, which is the most authentic version of him. There's no way he lied to himself in his own head too lmao. I can see him telling Mikasa he hated her being a front, but to pull the rug out from under like that is bad writing. His 131 and 139 comparisons were disingenuous, in terms of Eren's breakdown. Nobody was upset that Eren cried, they were upset at WHY he cried. There's a reason that 131's breakdown was well received as one of the best moments in the series. That humanized Eren super well because although he had a strong will and resolve to move forward and destroy the entire world, he still has his regrets and can't look the person he's about to kill in the eye. That makes him human, and that makes him a well-written flawed character. 139's breakdown was all over... Mikasa possibly marrying somebody else and moving on? When there was little indication that he loved her romantically too? Overall though, I loved the video you made, especially the format of playing out his points, and then, responding to them directly. Looking forward to more. I subscribed.

I agree, I simply didn't understand anything. The story started going downhill when the main characters came across Annie and they literally said nothing to her and laughed it off after all the suffering she caused. Season 4 is rushed. The poor animators have to work their asses off as well in a very short time. I could have waited some extra 2 years if it meant getting a better animated season with a better conclusion, it's like isayama is no longer interested in AoT and he just wants to finish it off.
The good thing about Berserk is that Miura doesn't give a shit about what his fans want, he does what's good for the story. Let alone hunting for shippers' opinions on Twitter.

The way people justify the ending is by taking the conclusion as fact and working backwards to force a narrative where it makes sense. Eren didn't give a shit about titans, he care more about being a scout, the idea of being free, not locked inside caged walls. Why don't people understand that titans are literally just weapons of war? God I used to watch Foxen because I liked the stuff he put out but That "Eren pulled an act that you guys fell for" pissed me off. If it was an act, we would have had breadcrumbs and foreshadowing for that. Instead what we got was that Eren saw too much that messed him up, so he tried to commit the best possible outcome that would result in his friends living long lives and not have to worry about any wars declared on Paradis. Clearly he failed because he killed 80% of humanity, and if the leaks are true (which I won't be surprised if they are), then Paradis is pretty much the definition of screwed.

I really didn't the part where "80%" of the world was wiped out. Why is there a specific number and why is it so severely lacking? The writers could have simply put "The majority of the world was wiped out." At least with that there's some ambiguity if Eren succeeded in protecting the island.

I really hate when 139 defenders twist Erwin's word to justify the ending. Eren's goal was never about eradicating hate from the world or from human nature, his goal is the safety of his people. It should still be done. It's just executed poorly. The method to erase it and the reason behind it are ridiculous. It should've been just that they were completely in a situation where they didn't need the power anymore, free from war, thus free from Titans too.

Before that he only got glimpses of the future with Attack Titan's ability, just like shifters get past memories. Now I don't want to use 139 as evidence because idk how accurate some things are, but he said that past present and future were existing at once so he really did see most of it. Not sure if Isayama meant to do this, or it was just added for 139 to make somewhat sense but yeah, at some point he did see it. It might have been incomplete because he was seeing too much info at once and forgot some of it, like when we are dreaming, or because he can only see some events leading up to his death.
Pareto theory my friend, within a populace, most are morons, a huge group are decent, a bunch are keen, and a pack are geniuses. The funny thing really is that after witnessing twice how the rest of the world was eager to destroy the eldians, Eren still went with his plan of killing 80% of the world and let Armin do the peace talk.

This family was living as aristrocrats while the rest of their people was hated and despised. And this is the exact same thing that happens with the Alliance and the rest of the eldians. Instead of putting an end to this vicious circle, Eren initiated a new one, repeating the exact same mistakes.
Eren said to Historia that the war won't end until one party is anihilated and yet still let Armin try to talk for peace, that's just doesn't make sense.
Eren basically gave up his duty to let others finish it. Yet, he already learnt what happens if you trust your friends rather than yourself. He blamed himself in the very first season, after witnessing the whole Levi squad die when he had the power to save them.
Even in the cave during the uprising arc, he decided to take action and believe in himself to save everyone.
I guess in the end, he really didn't learn from the mistakes from the past and didn't really care for his people.

I don't know why people feel a need to lie and say the ending is great or amazing. It's not, from a writing stand point it is objectively bad. I don't care if someone likes the ending despite how bad it is - everyone has their guilty pleasures. But to act as if it's a cohesive or decent ending is just a lie. They need to stop deluding themselves. The only honest and objective Anime TH-camr I saw actually pointing out the faults of the ending was AnimeBallsDeep.

I’m convinced the writer ditched Eren and Historia destroying the world half way through the final arc. It was set up so perfectly then does a complete 180 and destroys Eren and Historia character. Historia is a waste of panels and potential.
The whole baby drama was a complete joke unless Eren was the father and used that baby to wipe out humanity being the first born free child of the new world named Ymir. Eren in the end being riddled in guilt of wiping out humanity and the people he wanted to save the most.
I can't believe that others actually argued that Eren's development was just a front. We see him LITERALLY IN HIS OWN MIND AND INTROSPECTION ABOUT HIS THOUGHTS. Hell, we got a whole ass arc of him in the PATHs world, which is the most authentic version of him. There's no way he lied to himself in his own head too lmao. I can see him telling Mikasa he hated her being a front, but to pull the rug out from under like that is bad writing.
His 131 and 139 comparisons were disingenuous, in terms of Eren's breakdown. Nobody was upset that Eren cried, they were upset at WHY he cried. There's a reason that 131's breakdown was well received as one of the best moments in the series. That humanized Eren super well because although he had a strong will and resolve to move forward and destroy the entire world, he still has his regrets and can't look the person he's about to kill in the eye. That makes him human, and that makes him a well-written flawed character. 139's breakdown was all over... Mikasa possibly marrying somebody else and moving on? When there was little indication that he loved her romantically too?
Overall though, I loved the video you made, especially the format of playing out his points, and then, responding to them directly. Looking forward to more. I subscribed.

I agree, I simply didn't understand anything. The story started going downhill when the main characters came across Annie and they literally said nothing to her and laughed it off after all the suffering she caused. Season 4 is rushed. The poor animators have to work their asses off as well in a very short time. I could have waited some extra 2 years if it meant getting a better animated season with a better conclusion, it's like isayama is no longer interested in AoT and he just wants to finish it off.

I appreciate the bit about how people think everyone who supported Eren before 139 is just a hungry bloodthirsty maniac, when in reality we just wanted to see his character reach it’s logical conclusion. The way people justify the ending is by taking the conclusion as fact and working backwards to force a narrative where it makes sense. Instead of using what we were shown in the story thus far and questioning if what happened in 139 is congruent with everything that came before it. It’s impressive mental gymnastics and a testament to how people will refuse to be critical with a property they love despite its numerous shortcomings. I love AoT but that doesn’t exempt it from criticism.

I really didn't the part where "80%" of the world was wiped out. Why is there a specific number and why is it so severely lacking? The writers could have simply put "The majority of the world was wiped out." At least with that there's some ambiguity if Eren succeeded in protecting the island.

Its one thing if Foxxen just said his opinion as disagreeable as it is. But he had to be condescending towards ppl with legit arguments the whole video was "Half of yall just don't get it." Idk man but I've never seen a story with a decent ending divide a fandom to this extent. When Tokyo ghoul ended there were some ppl who didn't care too much for it but nobody was saying it didn't make sense and half the fandom wasn't arguing with each other on not just the grounds on rather it was good but on the grounds of if it made sense or not. I know Foxxen is one of the bigger SNK youtubers idk if he scared that Isayama might see his video or why he was dick ridding so hard. Even the ppl who thought the ending was okay had some criticism he's the only English Speaking youtuber I've seen with such a positive take on this.
