Ranked anxiety was a massive issue for me playing League of Legends, the cool part about Hearthstone and other card games is that when you hit a rank, you earned that rank and can't demote past 5 ranks.

Yep likewise the ladder rungs being checkpoints were massive in helping me invest the time in to get legend. I had played since goblins vs gnomes but never tried to actually get good until around sunken city/castle nathria. Now I get to legend most months and it's alot of fun honestly. But you totally dont need to get to legend every month its alot of a time sink. Especially from diamond 5 to legend. Most decks get like 50- 60% winrate even at tier one. And theres no win bonus unless you have 11 star bonus which is only top legend. I usually get 10 stars now which still makes diamond 5 to legend a pain. But knowing once i get to diamond 5 i can't fall below it is such a huge boost mentally while grinding.

i’ve been playing hearthstone since 2016 and haven’t hit legend yet. i always hit diamond 5 or 3 but just haven’t had the time to sit down and hit legend. i remember my first time getting to diamond 5 and being shocked when my star bonus went away for wins, its really tough you just gotta have the mindset and a broken deck that can barely be countered

I always played random OC decks and knew I couldn't get legend this way and was fine with it. BUT one day I decided to earn the legend rank with an Angry Chicken Otk I made. I reach Legend rank almost every month for the past two and a half years, and every time it's always a struggle because of that darn x10 multiplier. The only ones who say reaching Legend is easy are the kids who play HS all day. But for me, at 38 with a job, it's always a crazy challenge, and I'm truly proud of it.

    • @nathankeunen9572
      @nathankeunen9572 ปีที่แล้ว

I've always played custom decks and have been staying far from the ladder for years due to the non existence of deck builders there. The one time I netdecked(aggro druid), I got to rank 1 with 3 stars in about 3 hours, then I used my OC angry chicken deck to get legend. So excuse me but getting legend looked extremely easy to me, at least when you copy-paste stupid decks. I'll add that there is no shame in not getting there with custom decks cause you're only facing refined decks made by the top 0.01% of players

5 games a day (less than an hour on average) will result in 150 games a month, it's more than enough to reach legend. I wonder where's your "the kids who play HS all day" comes from. It's fine if you can't spare this time to play HS or have better things to do, but there's no need to call everyone "kids" if they can.

The unfortunate reality of reaching legend for normies like you and me is that it effectively becomes this equation - deck win rate * number of games you play. The best times to reach legend are when there is an extremely overtuned deck (Pally now, Rogue and control warrior pre-patch) and you can ride it by basically playing your mirrors better. That is fun(ish). The 2nd part of the equation is far less fun - the grind. So, pick a top3 deck you enjoy, focus on the mirrors and bad matchups and I promise you'll get there. GL!

Been going legend in wild for months now. Didn't abuse high win rate decks or anything, I played daily quests and some extra here and there. This month was with malygos druid. I think wild is easier than standard because it requires less games but requires more game knowledge. Not saying it's easy though it should be very clear that legend is top 1% for a reason.

In the most seasons I play in ranks around 100-200 wild legend but still feel this anxiety to fall down thousands of ranks because I lose ten matches in a row. But for me even I lost that many times I know I will win sooner or later again and for all players if you lose a bunch of time. Don’t give up. Better games come. Do a break, try a different mode etc.

I agree with everything you said, but most of those idiots that make those comments are just insecure trolls that love bashing people to make themselves feel better. Gotta ignore them and don’t feed them. They survive off your reactions so just don’t give them any.
Also, as for Legend or climbing, I couldn’t care less about Legend. If I played this game a ton I would go insane with all the broke cards and mechanics. I just play to complete quests or just set little goals. Like win 3 games then just turn it off and play something else. It’s helped me maintain my Hearthstone sanity and I can still enjoy the game without too much frustration.

I've never really ever taken a break from the game, as I seem to enjoy getting those daily quests done. But my confidence gets shredded pretty quickly when I try to climb in Diamond. I often get blown away, and I just stop trying. Plus, getting only one star for the odd winning streak is deflating. Proud that I've made it to D6 twice. Lately I've been asking streamers where to ask better players for help getting to legend. Most just say to watch streamers you like and learn their strategies. 4:21 Welcome to wild!!! The format were a lot of people play suboptimal decks that are just overwhelming frustrating to play against (resurrection priest, secret mage, mill lock druid, 50 shades of combos with zero interactions, where your opponent is just playing on it’s own, ever ragequitting because he did not had the time to OS you, or making you lose 20 minutes…). Those decks are not meta okay, I get it. But it means that I have to either be stuck with totem shaman to win (or the same 5 decks everyone play) or play my fun, idk, C’thun shaman for exemple, and get frustrated. I mean, it’s wild, let me use my collection !!! And I’m perfectly fine with losing, I don’t want to get legend, already done it several time. Just, not this way please !!! I want to play the game, not just watching my opponent do so ! Yes cards and decks can be bad and feel awful at the same time !!!

The right questions should be something like: "Why am I doing this?" and "Is it worth it?"

Once it is clear in your head that changes everything in my opinion.
You could get so much like testing your resilience and dedication towards a high end goal.

My highest rank ever is Diamond 10 and I've never had motivation to reach legend, it doesn't matter to me. Having fun and enjoying the game in small amounts is what matters to me. I will experience intense games where I feel my heart will jump out my chest (maybe anxiety, not sure) but I never feel the need to grind hours on end to achieve the "mythical legend status". Honestly don't care if others criticize me and comment on my rank, it's never bothered me. Also spent probably over $500 on the game over the years and don't regret it.

I got to legend 4 months in a row thanks to crappy secret mage, even totem shaman, aggro pirate shadow priest and mill ramp druid were available in a strong spot for the meta. Otherwise I stop my grind at diamond 5 and just do quests every 3 days and never log again. This game became repetitive long ago. All I need is for them to screw up so much so that I can stop my addiction.

And the reward was given according to the rank you finished, so I regularly stopped playing a day or two before the end of the season to get the better reward, afraid of losing rank. Was very frustrating! Oh, and I haven’t reached legend ever. Dad legend multiple times but never actual legend.

Keep up the good work Zeddy.
More positivity, we always going to lose on a PvP game.
Its all about the mind set, if you want to hit legend every season, you'll get ladder anxiety.
If you want to have fun plays, it doesn't matter the rank
If you are stuck trying to hit legend, change your play patterns, learn mulligans, when to pop up, what your deck is week against, when to control the board, when to ignore everything and go face.
Keep practicing and you will get there, and get a card back to show for it 😉!
Watch top player to learn from their mistakes, but you'll only get better with you keep playing
Don't let the anxiety get the best of you

The only thing I’d personally like to devils advocate when it comes to players complaints being invalidated is specifically new/returning players complaining. I’m very glad the catch up packs seemed to bring in more new/returning players but good god the amount of complaints I’ve seen from them while simultaneously having horrible takes is really starting to get to me. I’ve even tried to help steer some people in the right direction and been met with childish responses and stubbornness.
I think it’s really important you highlighted the idea that getting to legend is difficult and also I like to add high legend takes a lot of skill because the majority of the complaints seem to boil down to "I deserve a higher rank and only lose because the world/rng is out to get me."
My hope is that with the next expansion the lack of free catch up packs will require these players to spend money to have meta decks and weed out the people that don’t seem to even enjoy the game.

Just let them be, they might give themselves a little boost by talking themselves into believeing they're better than they actually are, but that'll only lead to more frustration when they get stuck in the rank they deserve. Hopefully somewhere down the line that will lead to self awareness.

The most frustrating thing about this game is when you win 3- 5 games in a row then all of a sudden you face a bot that has the exact counter / random card generation to beat your deck.
    It never fails

    • @xBRASSx
      @xBRASSx ปีที่แล้ว

That's because blizzard allows Chinese hacking bots to gatekeep around diamond 5.
They do this to keep people playing because they know we want to hit legend.
I face the same exact Rouge, priest, and Plague DK bot accounts that do exactly what you said.
The same generated opening hand and perfect discovered counter cards at the perfect time.
You literally can't win against these hacking bot accounts, and blizzard knows but doesn't care.

I played hearthstone for the first 3 years but was very busy in the corporate world so i had to stop playing, I'm now retired came back and started playing 4 seasons ago, previously in the first 3 years of the game I would get stuck Diamond5-1. The last two season i hit legend took some time to learn all the decks so you know what to expect. I can tell you now why i couldn't hit legend you just have to keep grinding and play when u feel good, and you are paying attention you are going to lose 10 in a row you might win 12 in a row eventually if you know how to play a good deck you will get legend it's a numbers game. Don't get anxious when you get in diamond or diamond 5 just realize if you keep playing u will hit legend. I completely agree with your advice after hitting legend for the first time in the last 2 seasons.

FTP tip, you can play all the top decks for free but you have to have multiple accounts. When you create a new account you can dust everything and easily make 1-2 top tier decks. I have 6 accounts when you include NA and EU and each account now has 60-80k gold. Do the daily quests against each other, takes about 30 minutes to do all the daily and weekly quests with premade decks like all battlecry, or a deck with scaled nightmare dragon that doubles its attack each turn to easily do the 200 damage quest.

Thanks for that important message zeddy. I have been more or less regular legend for the last 3 years, but i feel that without the changes of each rank from 5 to 3 stars i wouldn't have even tried. Once hitting legend that fear is allayed somewhat, but the nerves never go away, which is good in a way, as each time hitting legend is a great feeling. But i feel people forget why they play this game or in fact any game in the first place, to enjoy themselves! People feel it is only worth playing if they hit legend or for the elite players to hit top 100 or top 16, but the vast majority of players should remember, have fun first, and if you see you got to diamond 2 then maybe push for legend y playing optimised decks, but otherwise, just enjoy the fun decks even if they have a low win rate. Life is too short!

All I know is that I have zero intention on playing at least until next expansion.
I'm a low budget player, which means I need to focus on at most 3 classes to have a full collection. The 3 classes I enjoy are DH, DK and Warlock, I have the full collection for those. There isn't a single deck in those three classes I that are viable that I enjoy playing.
The closest one is Blood DK, but as soon as I queue up as Blood DK I find IMMEDIATELY control priest, at which point I just concede and call it a day.

OTK style solitaire hearthstone is not my thing if it is for others great but not for me.
As well as the legend discussion I see that one a lot about how easy it is - people share how happy they they made diamond and instead of hyping them up people shut them down its not that easy.

Maybe the meta right now is not catered towards the decks I want to play.

In my experience, a year ago, I was in Legend for the first time. The truth is that it's a bothersome and complicated process because the last five ranks the first time around are a martyrdom. Right now, I'm at diamond rank 3, and since I haven't been Legend again for a long time, it's as if I had never been there. My recommendation is not to give up. It really frustrates me when I'm at rank 3 or 2 and get dropped back to 5 - it has happened to me. Right now, all my friends are legend when just the day before, they were rank 5 like me. Don't compare yourselves, and don't get discouraged.

As a free to play player I definitely agree with the last statement "hs is free 2 play but pay to play what you want" throughout the years I was able to put together a good collection of wild staples and today I can build pretty much all decks from tier 1/2 + some random ones that are now outdated, but it took a very long time and I always have to be cautious and not craft the "next crazy thing" just to test it, I always make sure that it's actually good in the meta before doing anything

Nice Zeddy feels good once in a while. For the grind to legend, I never was able to succeed it on the old system. On the new one, however, it is somewhat easy to climb with the star booster to your last season ranking in a month so every month I would climb back and get one more star for the next one until I reached legend

I’ve been playing since closed beta. More some expansions than others, but I didn’t hit legend until I got over my “I wanna have fun vs play the meta” and played pirate warrior back when Rokara came out. The first time I hit legend was with slime warlock. I remember being so nervous that I could feel my heart leaping in my chest. It was 3 years after I started playing HS. Since then I've never played to achieve legend again, for college and work reasons. I started playing Hearthstone again, 3 months ago, and without spending a penny and I was able to get legend again. I believe that to achieve legend the mental factor is more decisive then if you play perfectly or something.

Completely agree! I have been playing Hearthstone casually since the closed beta. I never missed unlocking the monthly card back for over five years, then I just got Burt out with no being able to play what I want… basically I got tired of playing zoo lock every day, lol!! I always thought that if I just had better cards I could easily hit legend… well two years ago I started coaching Hearthstone esports… it really brought me back to the game. Blizzard has, very graciously, provided us with competitive accounts with literal access to any card in standard… wile my skill has improved dramatically, legend still eludes me. Hit Diamond 1 for the first time yesterday, playing mining Pally, which zeddy is working hard to get nerfed… (please don’t Blizzard)… had previously hit Diamond 5 with personal account so having all the cards really didn’t make me any better of a player, lol!!
My thought is that even though the game can be super frustrating it is also incredibly fun and worth playing… even in a Paladin dominated meta!

    Great Video Zeddy!
I am a little frustrated right now, for sure.
I wish there was a balance for all Classes. Everyone plays the "Best Decks" which are typically Druid, Paladin, or Rogue. It gets mundane for the casual player (like me) that just wants to play a class they enjoy, without losing to the same Decks over and over. Would love to see 50% across the board for all classes. I don't want to "learn" a class just because it's a better deck. Just give me some cards that match-up, well.
