    I have had many, many pairs of speakers including the Double Impacts and I completely agree with you on the point that they are extremely good all around speakers. The Tekton DI and Totem Acoustic Hawks are so far my two favorite pairs of speakers, from what I have owned. I'll be looking forward to see your channel grow, you are doing a nice job!

    Nice review, Jay. After considerable system tweeking over time, I did get my DI's to disappear. After playing with bi-amping, I am now using the Muzishare R100 805 version, integrated Chinese amp. I have tube rolled extensively. I do a lot of vibration management in my system. The effect of reducing vibrations is understudied, IMO. Curiously, I've learned that too much imaging (except for single vocalists or single instruments) can be an indicator of lower than the best resolution. With the speakers about 8' apart, I get wall-to-wall sound with great depth in my 25x17x10 room.

    I think the case with DI is the better amp not warm sounding one, DI is extremely transparent and sensitive to the minimum change, So this little Chinese amp you got is nothing but a reference level amp, or it's at least the best amp you tried on DI, I think it's that simple.

    I like Tekton speakers, and am looking at purchasing either the DI se or Encore's, for my end game speakers. But as far as finding full range great sounding speakers for under 3k, you need to check out KLH Kendall speakers priced at about 1.6k, they sound fanomanal. As a matter of fact for a budget system might be my first pick.

    Hello NBT, I purchased two Tekton 4-10 subwoofers in beautiful red. I love them to death, and I hear great things about Tekton's double impact. However, I am really interested in hearing more about Tekton's line of speakers. This includes the Lore, the Dynamite, and the many of the other mid towers and bookshelf speakers from Tekton. I think this is a niche that could be explored as there are very limited reviews on this companies speakers with a lot of curiosity about them. A lot of these Tektons speakers range from 600 to 9.5k and rely on the same patented technology in different configurations.

    I know you own Hegel too. Can you share details why would you not consider the H120 or H190 with these speakers over the tube amplifier? You get warmer sound from the tube but how do you feel the amp's ability to control the speaker with a non tube setup? I understand all amplifiers work well, but why the tube over others for this speaker. Looks like the speaker has lot of drivers, won't a high damping factor have more impact on the sound for these floor standing speakers? Tubes are good enough to drive these just as well?

    Thank you for these additional comments on the Double Impacts. Something I'd like to see in the future is a comparison of the regular DI to the DI SE. What difference do these different drivers make? Are they incrementally better or do they destroy the "secret sauce" of the DI? Also, the Tekton Electron and Electron SE which appear as scaled down DIs... Do you lose a lot sonically with these or are they actually better suited to smaller rooms than the DI? Would love to see answers to questions like this that are very pertinent for making a buying decision but are nowhere to be found on the manufacturer's website. Thanks again and keep up the informative and thoughtful reviews.

    • @matthewrond7386
      @matthewrond7386 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Terry, before making a purchase, I emailed Eric @ Tekton regarding the Electron vs. Double Impact. I have a small but dedicated room 12.5 x 13-Eric recommended the DI. He said they "do a lot more" than the Electron and unless space negated it, the DI was the way to go. I've since placed and order for upgraded DI's... still waiting on delivery. I would also love to hear more regarding the difference between the regular DI, $300 upgraded and SE versions!

    Jay I would love it if somebody could do a comparisson between the DI's and the DI Monitor with a sub (good musical one like REl 7Ti or SVS SB3000) They are large speakers either way but the height adds to the DI's being really deep.I think one might get even better bass depth and tone but get the goods on top with the monitors.Also disappoints me that nobody has done a comparisson betwen the Double Impact and the Double Impact SE.Thoughts?

    My Double Impacts have played bloody hell with my early 50s hifi albums.
    They sounded fine with my old JBLs but the detailed reproduction of the DIs makes them sound grainy and muddy.

      Get the EVO 400, Hegel are nice but Primaluna are a lifetime product, plus you can even upgrade the internals, I swapped out the coupling caps for Miflex KPCU in my Dialogue HP, although the only real bottleneck on PL integrated and preamps is the volume control, which is why I went with a PL power amp and high end passive preamp (Hattor or Icon 4 autoformer are great choices and have remote control of all functions).

Focus has 3 12 inch drivers to handle the base which I think is far from the 8 inch drivers that Tekton has. Midrange in the focus is incredible sweet and detailed, such a treat. The only way to know is compare them in the same room. Get the focus 3 feet far from the wall behind and place them on concrete pavers and you are all set.

    It seems to me that the tweeter array is where all the magic is, yet none of Tekton's flagship models has a similar array, and therefore I wonder if the flagship sound is more of the same thing you get from the DIs or is it somewhat or completely different. What are your thoughts on that?

    • @Jayiyagi
      @Jayiyagi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tekton tweeter array on its higher models are further improvements from the DI from my understanding. However I have not heard them so I can't tell you for sure if it's a totally different sound or not

    • @tlhuffman
      @tlhuffman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Jayiyagi The flagship models in the Tekton line--Ulfberht, Encore, and Moab--all have a similar tweeter array. What distinguishes them from the DI is that double up the number of tweeters. So, instead of a single array of seven tweeters, with only the middle tweeter acting as a conventional high-end driver, the flagships use two 7-tweeter arrays separated by a single tweeter in what is essentially a MTM arrangement. As good a deal as you find the DIs at $3K, I would be willing to bet that you would find the Moabs at $4.5K an even better value. The 15-tweeter MTM tweeter array sounds truly remarkable. I personally own the Ulfberhts, but I think the Moabs (at half the price) offer almost certainly more bang for the buck.
      Thanks for the thoughtful review of the DIs.

      @@fishingbear69 I don't own the Tekton Moabs, just spent some time listening. I've also listened quite a bit to several Focal sets. Very different speakers overall, Tekton will have more "meat on the bone" stronger mid bass, deeper overall bass, less tweeter "sparkle" for the micro details. I personally would decide based on the room, the amp, and your music preferences. My current favorite speaker in this range is the Canton 3.2DC which I've owned now for only a couple months. It gives huge scale, strong bass but never boomy, and that detail and sparkle in the tweeters.

    Maybe it’s me but I expected so much more from my Double Impacts that I setup yesterday, there’s just nothing special about them. I know they were only three grand but they lack highs and lows and they’re not a complex sound. My speaker placement might not be perfect and I know they have to be broken in but they have such a long way to go to be close that I find it hard to believe they’ll ever be great. I have a PrimLuna 300 EVO amp so I don’t think that’s the problem and I’m a musician for fifty years so I don’t think it’s me. I fell for the hype I guess.

    I bought into the hype of all these over-the-top review of these speakers and bought a pair. Initially, they sounded like crap but was told take 80-100 hours to break-in. So I waited. In the end, they do sound good but the bass is severely lacking. I don't understand how four 10" woofers have such weak bass response. I tried a few different amps in the 90-150 wpc range with same results. I wound up adding a single REL 8" sub to the system to compensate.

      The bass doesn't surprise me. Those are basically Pro drivers. They are purposely designed to have a high sensitivity and output. So deep bass is sacrificed for that. They just are not going to dig deep into the well. My guess would be an f3 around 45-50 hertz .

    I have heard these Tektons and agree they are good value, almost full range, capable of high output, and thus obviously versatile, but they are large, ugly and lacking resolution. For most people I think they are indeed end game speakers. Personally Tektons are not my thing.
