    I took a couple of things out of this video.
    First that I can't begrudge someone trying to follow a childhood dream that was denied to then, especially if that someone is well aware they'll never make it to the top.
    And second, that the FIA should probably introduce a points licensing system for F2 to filter out those that shouldn't really be anywhere near those cars. Actually they should probably revamp the license points system in its entirety. The fact that drivers like Pato O'Ward or Colton Herta don't have enough points for F1, yet drivers like Deledda or Lord Mahaveer can just waltz into the tier immediately below is a 'yoke'.

    • @Cabarkin
      @Cabarkin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      @@redcoatgaming4141 Yeah, Hill was considered to be immensely inferior to Michael Schumacher and therefore weak. What didn't help was an abysmal year at Jordan when Frentzen was a title outsider. 1998 was decent, but Ralf Schumacher looked pretty good against Hill as well. The whole "it's the car, not the driver"-thing. Hungary 1997 was seen as a great drive, also made possible by the Bridgestones, as Trulli also nearly won in a Prost that year on the A1-Ring, which was very much a Bridgestone-track.
      However, Hill didn't deserve this disrespect. Being inferior to Michael Schumacher is okay, that's literally one of the best, if not the best driver to have ever lived. Also, Hill started racing so late that it's insane that he was still as good as he ended up being. He debuted in his 30s in F1. That hints at his innate talent being insanely high. If he had a conventional racing career, who knows how good he would've been. In terms of pure talent, he might've been one of the most talented racing drivers of all time without too many people actually knowing about it.

Mark Patterson, who's 70 years old, raced in GT2 European Series in 2021 and won the title together with Anders Fjordbach. Patterson is a vastly experienced driver, but winning a title at 70 is remarkable. Deledda could find series like that and even challenge for a title. Especially since he crashes into people and effects the race of drivers whose results matter. If he wants to race he can just go to Boss GP. That is where all the other rich dudes who want to drive go. He might even win there considering it's 50 year olds. @theodentherenewed4785 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Somebody has to pay the bills. I understand why it happens even in F1 (Mazepin) or WRC (Greensmith). There need to be underperforming pay drivers for motorsport to survive in its current shape. In a lot of motorsport series, there are teams just existing to get by and they need rich drivers, who can't have a seat on merit. For example, Lando Norris comes from an affluent family, but he makes money instead of spending them to race. Drivers like Deledda are an essential part of the existing motorsport organization. It's a surprise that he went as far up as F2, but it's just comes down to him being delusional about his possibilities to have a career in single seaters. Most pay drivers are more reasonable and pick an environment, in which they have some chances for success.

    • @jez_77
      @jez_77 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@theodentherenewed4785 Yeah, thats why I think that F1 and Liberty should invest in young talents, like supporting F2 and F3 teams for bringing talented juniors. I know that lots of teams have to bring pay drivers in order to survive in junior categories, I dont blame them. Whats wrong is that a) they have to do it instead of developing talented juniors (which is the entire point of junior series) b) theyre allowed to do this and basically whoever they want - after all Deledda is not even a racing driver.

    Uh huh.....tell me all about how a late start to one's racing career will give them an impossible mountain to climb.
    Then look up Sebastian. Fucking. Loeb.
    Loeb began racing seriously at _21 years old._ *TWENTY. ONE.* In spite of a late start just as severe as Deledda's, the man has racked up NINE World Rally Championship titles.
    Deledda has no excuse. None. Drivers have started later and done just as well as the Hamiltons and Verstappens of the world. Don't get me wrong - if he's a solid dude, then I'd love to have a beer with him. But if he really wants a career in motorsport, and one that he can be proud of when it ends.....buy a track car with your immense means and get some seat time before you go GT racing.

    • @kHz33
      @kHz33 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Single seaters are a bit of a different animal to drive, though. The karting experience you get from beginning to race as a youngster is invaluable, and Deledda did not nearly do enough karting for that. No gentleman driver has ever done great in recent times of single seater racing.

      @@kHz33 Flying through the forest in a 450+ hp rally car with anti-lag and an active diff is pretty difficult, and yet Loeb adapted. Not to mention the time he spent driving in the Citroen Saxo Cup. Which is the second thing I mentioned about Deledda - he rushed it. Like I said, track time matters.
      If the man had given himself a ton of test time with an F4 car then he may well have gotten the hang of it and not sucked so hard. But he used his funds to fly up the ladder without doing much growing as a driver. Loeb started out in relatively tame machinery and grew into the weapons he was tasked with winning titles in. Deledda didn't. That's the difference.
