Thank you so much for this !!! How wonderful to see AND HEAR live performances !!! So BEAUTIFULLY and tenderly sung by Scotto !!! The thick orchestration of Puccini covers her voice in the lower register...but no matter what...a gorgeous performance...and the high C gallo at the end of the duet was very well covered up with acting !!! He was lovely too.
She sang Lucia di Lammermoor, Sonnambula & Gilda in Rigoletto, which means that she's a light lyric soprano to start with. Freni never sang either Lucia or Gilda. But Scotto managed/dared to sing this heavy role of Butterfly, which is kind of crazy.... ONLY SCOTTO can do such a vocal acrobats!!! Besides, being such a romantic, sensitive & naive Japanese adolescent (Cio-cio san was 15, in this scene and commits suicide at 18 or 19 max...) so naturally and convincingly is simply grandiose.
It's so annoying that Scotto spoiled an otherwise strong performance (at least for me) by her constant insistence on always singing straight to the audience. It's a love duet and hardly even glances at Ciannella who is forced to turn his head to look at her. Her last note however wobbles badly.
this is when youhave goose bumps all over your body and can't believe what you just heard'
This is a Met live performance...not a telecast from 8 April 1978 definitely Giacomini not Cianella..I managed both so I know Giacomini's voice here

Fascinating to SEE Giacomini taking on this role.
Giacomini...
Scotto as always, Superb!
Are you sure this is Ciannella? ... looks and sounds like Giacomini to me!
It is Giacomini
its giacomini ...
Where can I get a copy of this?!?
Do you know when and where?
Paris, I think
Scotto is a genius, and Uncle Louis a Jewish Saint.
MA LA STECCA DEL TENORE SUL FINALE? HAHAHAHAH
Not Ciannella
E Giuliano Ciannella
che canta,non Giacomini
Grandi tenori ambidue
Grazie Giuliano
@@wallynegrini7466 Ti credo!
