Good video. I like the Ochils in my younger days I used to climb up the Law to Ben Cluech to keep my fitness level up in between Munro’s. My wife of nearly 50 years also went to Camden School. Great drone footage.
Hi Gingerman, glad to see you back in my neck of the . The local archaeologist dig some recent digs on Dumyat and found lots of evidence of a Pictish settlement. I hope he publishes it. One of my favourite walks is to follow the track around Menstrie Glen to the old ruined farmhouse at Jerah. By the way if you fancy a steeper climb, go up from Menstrie Glen, that's a wee bit more of a climb😮
I finally read Light on Dumyat recently and knew the places Rennie McOwan was talking about, which made it doubly enjoyable. I may have lived in its shadow but I've still never been up it! Thanks for this.
I used to walk up Dumyat most Sundays with my Dad as child. I’m gutted that I now live in Menstrie as an adult but my health doesn’t allow me to climb even the smallest of the Ochils. I’m determined to do it again someday. In the meantime I enjoy living at the foot of these gorgeous hills. Dumyat is one of the easier climbs in the area, which is a big part of why it’s so popular.
Dumyat is about 30 mins drive from my home and I've climbed it many times. I alternate the Sherrifmuir road climb with doing it from Blairlogie car park. It adds a bit of ascent and time on to the hike.
Nice video of my default hill. The pylons replaced lower ones about 10-15 years ago. They are part of a line from Denny to Beauly. It was argued that it was too expensive to have the line underground. There was a local campaign against them being built. I agree that the view would be better without them but, as the stone near the start of your video says, the electricity company built the car park as a kind of compensation. It also vastly improved the path up Dumyat which used to be very muddy. Rennie McOwan was a journalist and hill walker / mountaineer who loved the Ochils and lived in Menstrie at the foot of Dumyat. He wrote "LIght on Dumyat." He died in 2016 at the age of 85. I think the bridge you mention is an old [railway?] bridge from South Alloa to the Kincardine side of the Forth. It is now in disrepair. However, you can see the Kincardine Bridge from the top of Dumyat. Now for the smart-arse bit. Ben Cleuch is pronounce "Clooch" not "ClooAch."
