Gingerman: Episode 301- Balerno
Its a trip over the Queensferry crossing to the town of Balerno. Situated just 8 miles from the city of Edinburgh, this little treasure of a place has plenty to keep you interested, even during a storm.

What a beautiful place. 😊
Nice!😊
Cheers for that. What a nice place. I grew up in England but never got to travel up to Scotland before we moved to NZ when I was 15. My grandma's family lived in Inveresk for several generations. Not in the posh house I guess. Several hundred years earlier back they were from Montrose when the surname changed from Leach to Leitch. I have not been able to find out much about them. Just church records. My paternal grandma was Welsh from Powys. Relatives like Owen Owens and Evan Evans -- seriously, there's even a David Davids relative. The rest of is a mix of Italian and English. I still get called a Pom in NZ though, because I never got rid of the Milton Keynes accent (pretty much a London accent, but school tried to make us talk proper and all that).
I have stayed at Monifeith caravan site a few times and walked my dogs to Broughty Ferry and back on the costal path that you are walking on. You are right it’s a nice place to holiday in. Another great video.
Looks a wet and soggy day. I used to visit Balerno to a customer and enjoyed getting out of Edinburgh. Nice to see it again.
Very interesting...if somewhat soggy!😂
If that was my snowman cake, it wouldnt have survived so long, rain or no rain! It's a lovely place and those gardens will be beautiful when in bloom. They were even nice in the rain. Hopefully, it's drier for your next adventure.
not the first time you've made a big skid mark!
@@chip308 😅
Great, thanks! I've recently moved to Edinburgh and I see the 44 buses going to 'Balerno' but I had no idea of the place. Now I do? 😂
@@free_gold4467 Amazing, I hoped at least one person out there would use that information. 😅
Nice one Derek. That was some muddy path you picked to walk on 😂
Another good vlog, I will definitely be checking Balerno out and the gardens. Can I just tip my hat to Kyle Brown who composed and sings your intro and end music. I love the songs especially the end one. I always find myself singing it in my head, long after the episode has finished....
@kevinmukkersmuckley4982 thank you, passed on the message to Kyle.
Truly a great find. I love the area, didn't get to spend much time there. I loved that "Currie" wasn't good for your stomach...stop! You're too funny. LOVED the video, glad you didn't fall down.
@jstringfellow1961 haha me too, it was a close call. Thanks for watching
BALERNO, NICE ENOUGH PLACE BUT NOT A LOT TO IT.
Sssshhhh!
Well done. Just looked at my Munro log and climbed this on 12/10/ 1992 before you were born no doubt. Great footage brought back memories for myself and my good lady. And congratulations in number 300. Got a lot to catch up on!! Loved your comment be back for the chase!! Ha ha. Again well done to you and look forward to your next adventure.
Brilliant....
Nice vid bro ❤
In 1971 we had Fish & Chips at Auchterarder - the best one ever had. Me, was working at Gleneagles Hotel in the Control Office. As a Swiss i must say, Scotland is equal nice. Thank you for uploaded this interesting Video.
Brilliant episode! I'm not afraid of heights but I am afraid of edges, so don't think I'll ever conquer Ben Nevis. Thanks for this.
Thank you, I am afraid of flying and struggle to get on a plane but I love being up the mountains.
@GingerManWithACam I love the hills and mountains too, having grown up at the foot of the Ochils. There used to be no holes barred but not now. I nearly got stuck at Hoxa Head on Orkney due to a narrow bit in the path and a sheer drop. I'll enjoy Ben Nevis from afar.
What a lovely place. I've only driven through it but next time I'll stop. Thanks for this, and congratulations on reaching 3k subs 🎉
Hey man, glad to see you're still doing these 👍👍 I think they'll become fairly important videos in the future... not many people doing as detailed a tour of the local towns and villages as you are. When everything changes, it'll be good to look back on. Already is 😂
That area isn’t really known as the Palace as such, it’s just kind of known as a general area because CJ’s across from where you were was once called the Palace back when it was a Dance Hall and Cinema decades ago. Cool video though, weird seeing my community on TH-cam 👍
Well done!
Thank you
go you good thing :-) well done
Oh wow what an incredible episode!!! An absolute joy to see you conquer The Ben. We might do it one day, will definitely take someone who knows all about hillwalking though.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Defo worth taking a trip up if you can!
I've been waiting on this one. I've seen other videos on the city, but I love your walk about Derek. This is the city I will most likely move to when I come to Scotland. I've felt a connection to Fife for years, but the south and west of it seem to draw me closer than Leven, Kilkardy, etc. I can see myself living in Inverkeithing, Rosyth, or Dunfermline as long as it is on the side closest to Inverkeithing. Great job!! Love the drone shots. I do think it needs another grocery store, an Aldi, or a 2nd COOP, but I suppose that's why there are buses and rails. Gratitude friend.
Well done bud, some great footage there 👌
Thank you!
👍
Well done guys, that was quite a climb, great episode for no. 300.
Thank you!
Congratulations! Looking forward to the next 300.
Thank you. I wonder where the next 300 will take me?
Derek congratulations ! Every episode a treasure . Proud to be a patron :)
Thank you so much for watching and coming along!
Inverkeithing is much more interesting than I thought. Thank you, your work here is done! 😀 Congrats on getting over 3k subscribers in time for episode 300. Well deserved!
Exploring..Gingerman..greeting from Flanders ..(Belgium)..👍
Used to live at Barr Crescent back in the 90's next to Fraser Avenue, used to be some great pubs along the high street.
Cool video. You mentioned Blue bell woods. Is there still a chapel in the middle of it? I’m sure I remember there was when I was a kid when we lived Sherbrooke road
Wow what a beautiful town to see the sunrise, amazing!
Primary burnt down in late 2018, it was a really sad sight
The new primary and updated nursery are over by the high school, wish you had spoken about the wing as well - gym, swimming pool, sports hall and another community space. Yes that was the library but it was moved to the civic centre (where the canon was) so the old library was converted into a home.
Us3d to go the weekend clubs at the wing. If it hadn't been a school day I'd have walked along that way.
Yet another cracking vid !
Thank you so much.
Nice video…stroll around my old hometown 👍
Enjoyed that. Very interesting and nice to see the 3 bridges from the drone.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good wee walk around my hometown, plenty of history as well. It’s all a bit of a mess now sadly let down by local Councillors and the Inverkeithing Community Council. What a shame the way it’s become.
Great video again mate. The difference in Fraser avenue is crazy, i stayed there for a few years and moved back to Rosyth in 2012 👍
Thank you so much for visiting the Adam Smith Heritage Centre! We're delighted to hear you enjoyed your time with us. 😊 Please do stop by again whenever you're in the area-we’d love to welcome you back! Adam Smith Heritage Centre Team :)
Thank you, I loved the heritage centre and can't wait to return.
Born and bread in Methil until I moved to Dundee last year, it's truly a forgotten town compared to the rest of Fife and we deserved so much better,
Mitchells in Broughty is absolute garbage - awful service and staff........Yould have been better having lunch in The Anchor
Nice video , im a postie in the broughty ferry area , its a lovely wee place especially in the summer
Brilliant episode! Many a happy time there with my friend who comes from The Ferry. Thanks for this.
I live in long lane....right at the top....opposite the graveyard 😮
Love Broughty Ferry 🧡🏴
It’s over 25 years since I was last in Broughty Ferry.
Great episode, have visited many times, beautiful place.
