‘Thank you 🙏 for shining a light on teff grain it’s nutritious & versatile!!, if you have local Ethiopian store in your area it would be the best place to buy it as It’s so expensive online..
Excellent description of Teff , been using for years but did not have mastered making it solo I do add it to other grains. But was able to make it solo with your recipe.
Sounds like a wonderful grain either savory or sweet! Thankyou for showing us about cooking Teff! I'd like to try the traditonal bread Injera as well. It's fermented isn't it? Do you have a video showing the making of injera? Love your videos, thankyou!
@@Katherine-zk5zj That's a great thought. While I haven't tried it personally, I imagine teff would make a good binder for something like meatballs or meatloaf. If you try it, please let me know how it works out. Cheers!
One year after your posting this I watched it! Very informative and easy to follow, I liked your commentary. 👍🏼 And yes I’ve tried teff grain it’s delicious! I have horses and we feed teff grass or ‘hay’ to them. It’s great as it’s low carb for insulin resistant horses but nutritious. Thanks for featuring teff!
It has a protein called Glycin. Teff must be taken with caution by Gluten sensitive or Celiac people as your immune system could react to this protein as it would to a Gluten protein found in wheat. Everyone is different - test your reaction to Teff with caution.
Absolutely loved this insight & guide into cooking Teff! Very inspiring for my own channel. I’ve covered a Berbere spice & been looking at making an authentic Ethiopian recipe. Thanks for sharing. James
I was just looking to find some info about Teff since I recently started to use it - and here I found your channel ❤️ Subscribed to your channel today and are looking forward to follow you ❤️👍🌹
@@IWantToCook your so welcome. Very deserved. I recently tried ethiopian food and was very curious how their bread was made so your video came up first (just to let you know about the algorithm😁)
I found some flour made of teff from Bob's Red Mill. It is really delicious added to pancake batter! Hearty and nutty, beautiful tawny color, very autumnal. I'm almost out, could only find the whole teff (Bob's again), so this is very timely for me. It's so small, I wonder whether the whole grain can be used directly in the batter, or whether it needs to be precooked first. Looks like the latter, but I'm lazy in the morning, and will probably try adding some dry to the batter to see if it's a viable shortcut---unless someone advises me otherwise.😉
That’s a great idea. It’s so small it’s almost flour-like and seems you could use it as such, especially since it will be cooked in the batter. Please keep us posted. 😀
@@IWantToCook You know, I just thought of another option---presoaking overnight. Or soaking in hot water (in the microwave) the morning of, if I forget to do it the night before. I do this to plump up poppy seeds when I'm making lemon-ricotta-poppyseed-almond pancakes, and it works great. Bet it would work on teff, too. Just found your channel, btw.😃👍
As an Abyssinian, we never created this kind of recipe cooking Teff as a whole grain meal! Having someone outside the Abyssinian culture creat new recipe is nice and interesting.
Hi! I used 1.5 cups of water per cup. You can use up to 4 cups of liquid per 1 cup of teff if you want the finished recipe to be more liquid. Hope you enjoy! 😊
Everyone have a preference of foods of different cultures. I tried eating Ethiopian food, my esophagus closes up. If they're eating this grain I probably can't eat this Teff. I would try this Teff anyway. Thank you the tip.
It is my native teff wich is tiny but full of iron The best thing you should make it or to flour then you can bake cookies bread pitta in fluffy injera Which is know by Ethiopian . You can look also on TH-cam channel how to bake how go make injera.
You should look up "Injera" the traditional Ethiopian flatbread, Ethiopians eat this with "Wot" which can be many variations of Ethiopian curries and dishes. It's absolutely delicious.
I am from Iran and we normally dilute it with water and drink it as a beverage. I have never seen anyone cook it the way you did because it has lots of fiber. Did this upset your stomach in any way?
Hello and thanks for watching! No, personally this has never given me digestive issues. Just the opposite, in fact. I’ve found it can “really move things along.” 😀 I have never heard of it as a drink, but now I am intrigued. Maybe it is like a thicker barley water? All my best to you. 🙏
Hi, there - I can’t really answer that question since I trained as a chef and not necessarily as a nutritionist. However, you should easily be able to find the nutrient content of each with a Google search and compare them to find the one that best meets your needs. Thanks for watching and happy cooking! 🙏
I’ve tried rinsing and couldn’t find a strainer fine enough, lol. If you really prefer to, cheesecloth should work. Since this is boiled, I didn’t worry about contaminants or anything, and always achieve tasty results. Cheers!
I tried to cook this as a cereal/porridge kind of thing the night before but when I left it out to cool till morning, it kinda hardened together a bit sorta like a flan-bread type of way. Is that how they make bread with it? Kind of interesting
I followed this same method but mines keep coming out sticky and sticks to the bottom of the pan. Lol 😅 I wonder what I am doing wrong? Maybe keep heat on low?
You might want to vary how much water your using. I'd try adding a bit more at first to see if that helps. If sticking continues to be an issue, a good-quality nonstick pan might be helpful here. Cheers!
I can take anything that is healthy and turn it into something completely unhealthy. I am going to try this with butter and brown sugar for my breakfast. Maybe a little drizzle of cream. Seriously!
I cook it with chopped dates, figs and raisins, clove, cinnamon, ginger its is so yummy I toast it first on burner then cook
That sounds delicious!!
Thank you for this video. I've been trying to figure out how to make non-porridge, fluffy, teff for ages, and you showed the way.
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching and happy cooking 🙏

Interesting! Gonna try it. Until today I had never heard of Teff. Subscribed!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy 😊
I am steaming whole teff, in a 1.2 ratio of water to 1 of teff. Takes a bit longer but makes for a very fluffy result.
Greatly appreciated.

Just fyi it’s the seed of a grass which is one reason it’s so tiny. For cuisine it’s considered a whole grain
Hundreds of years of using it for liver, digestive system .. disorders by Persian traditional healers.

I wonder what the traditional authentic preparation and cooking for TEFF is in Africa?

I wonder how much 'Roundup' is on the teff produced by the Teff Compay in Idaho?
None. It's organic 😊

If you have an allergy to grass be cautious of ingesting this product.
In Ethiopia, we never cook Teff like this. We rather bake Enjera (flat bread) from its flour.

Actually Fonio is smaller than Teff!

Great 4 KETO
No. A 1/4 cup is 43 carbs. That is not keto-friendly. I'm doing a low-carb diet, so I can eat it.
The one time I made it, it was not good.
