    Wow it's really amazing! Do you think it would be possible for you to integrate a Brushless inrunner motor in the next rendition? To my knowledge they seem to deliver the most performance in RC cars. 🤔

    • @EngineeringNS
      @EngineeringNS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't yet decided, I tried an in runner on early versions of Tarmo4, and the performance was disappointing, but that being said it wasn't a high end motor. I believe there are photos of it on my Instagram and a few videos.
      Theoretically an outrunner should perform better, it's just the selection of larger outrunners is not as great.

    Hi
    First I would like to thank you for your endless effort and persistance with building 3d printed cars.
    I have just found out about tarmo3 and ordered some parts, so my question is - do you think the motor and esc from tarmo 3 could be used in tarmo 4 or it will be underpowered, didn't start printing yet so I'm on a turnpoint now - to go with tarmo3 or tarmo4
    Thanks in advance

    • @EngineeringNS
      @EngineeringNS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ESC should work fine, the motor will be slightly underpowered. It is half the power of the new one. You can always build it and if it is underpowered just buy the new motor it should be aveilable for about the same price. You will need to build some sort of adaptor though since the motors do not mount in the same way.

    Is this designed to allow a custom body to attach somewhere?

    • @EngineeringNS
      @EngineeringNS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, but I tried to make the wheelbase such that it can be more easily adapted to accept a body. You just need to design body mounts for it that's all.

  • @nelloermejo398
    @nelloermejo398 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't know if anyone has already told you that, but, in order to improve torsional stiffness to you axis you need to put a 45 degree helical design. In alternative you can make a pipe. The cross section you made isn't the right one for torsional stiffness. That will bring a big improvement if you don't want the axis to twist.

    • @EngineeringNS
      @EngineeringNS  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol it is supposed to twist that's the whole point. That's why I designed it that way. You are talking about the drive shaft, right? 🤔
      That's my 'torque damper' it reduces torque spikes and stops parts from breaking. It's part of the design and it actually works really well.

      @@mojaverc1585 oh yes diffs are an interesting problem
      i build drones, so i don't think the technology is that advanced ;)
      and i think it'd actually be more durable, because there are no diffs to break and the space thats needed for the central turning rod thingy
      can be used structurally

    • @mojaverc1585
      @mojaverc1585 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What i mean by advanced technology is how the esc’s would need to sense more amp draw and then give less power to the motor which is counter intuitive because usually if there is more amp draw from the motor the esc will just draw more amps from the battery. Anyway as you said you are a drone builder so it probably doesn’t seen to be too complicated for you. There are so many things to consider and standpoints and views that could be justified in one way or another that would hurt my brain in terms of how a 4 motor car would need to be designed and the pros and cons and so forth that I am going to end this here before we start to have discussions that get so in depth that it is useless to talk about unless the design is actually manifested.

      I'm with Marc, someone should definitely do (probably has done it). It could be as simple scaling down certain motors when inputting steering. Would be quite ready to do with a flight controller.
      My question is would you go for motors in the wheels themselves (would have lots of unsprung weight), or motors where the diffs currently are (would still have a shaft to the wheel which we were trying to get rid of)?

  • @mythbuster204
    @mythbuster204 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why do you need elastic shaft ?
    Do you know exact reason why old o
    ones kept breaking?

    • @EngineeringNS
      @EngineeringNS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wasn't the shaft that was breaking, it was other parts. The shaft flexing reduces torque spikes in the system and stops other parts from breaking.

    What did you print the model in? PLA OR ASA?
    Also, I built your Tarmo3, but the end cups keep burning out, the axels are fine, any suggestions? Would the new ninja flex torq damper fix this issue on the T3?

    • @EngineeringNS
      @EngineeringNS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually designed a remix for tarmo3 that uses the torque damper design from Tarmo4 for those who didn't want to build a whole new car. The car is still built with PLA. I never had the issues you are having--there are other people who have similar issues and I am still not sure what the cause is.

    Looks great, any idea what the max speed is now?

    • @EngineeringNS
      @EngineeringNS  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hard to say. I want to say its in the mid 40's (mph) but I don't have any way to test so I dont know. It's theoretical speed given the KV of the motor and the gear ratio was in the 60's if I remember correctly--Of course there are many losses and much friction so that is not realistic.
