Toyota have added some GR loving to their standard Yaris car and I’ve had a look around it. Not to be confused with the actual GR, this is a 1.5 engined version of the mass production Yaris but the exterior kit in particular really makes it look very cool indeed. It will cost you €28,395 which is 5k more than the entry level Yaris!

I currently drive a JCW Mini Convertible 2021 plate and have just ordered last month the Yaris Hybrid GR Sport. My partner currently has the Yaris Hybrid Dynamic and he was a huge Mini fan before - he absolutely loves his Yaris. Cannot wait for mine, been told the lead time for delivery is currently February 2023, still worth waiting for I feel.

I just ordered mine in decuma grey colour. So excited. Been battling if I’ll get the GR sport Yaris or the Cross for a while now & finally made a decision. The only sad thing is we don’t get the Alcantara seats in UK & Ireland. That definitely looks more premiere than cloth ones.

Im hopefully getting the missus a new Yaris in the next 4 weeks. She's finally letting go of her old one but it's staying in the family. My son is getting it for a little runaround. But When we go into Toyota to get her new car ordered. I'm going to sort myself a GR out.
I've got a work van I use most of the time but it's about time I get myself a car for the weekends. Can't think of a better little car to own than a new GR. We've had a Toyota for 25 years in one form or another & I don't think my missus would allow me to suggest a different car & I don't see any reason to upset her.

Tried my brother's Yaris non gr sport Hybrid Automatic. My First ever automatic car.
I gotta say, I love it lol. Maybe I am getting old, I still like Manual.
But the difference of not needing to change gear is night and day lmao. Even comes with a reversing camera and its not the top of the line yaris. Very spacious back seats too. Plenty of leg room.
And for city driving the hybrid Yaris is a nifty little thing.
If I ever swap my existing manual daily vehicle. Might get the gr hybrid version of the yaris.

Over here in UK (Wales, in my case), the specifications of each model are even closer to each other and there's no 1 litre petrol option. I've had my 1.5 Yaris Hybrid in Dynamic trim for just a year and love it but fell even more in love with this GR Sport version. The Dynamic (which the GR Sport replaces) already had 17" wheels and stiffer suspension than the trim levels below it, so similar to the Excel version (Platinum in Ireland). The GR Sport has had a further suspension upgrade, along with those 18" wheels, some body stiffening and even some aerodynamic tweaks to the wheel arches, apparently.
As you know, new cars are in short supply at the moment and dealers are struggling to find almost new used cars to sell, hence my dealer's offer I couldn't refuse to upgrade to a brand new GR Sport from my Dynamic. I ordered mine in mid March (Ash Grey, black roof) and will be lucky if it arrives this year. Current waiting time if you order one now, according to the UK website, is 57 weeks!

The only bummer is that Toyota in UK, and from what I can see in Ireland too, stripped this bad boy off those gorgeous alcantara seats. You look up any image of this car online - you see alcantara on every single one. But not in UK and Ireland lads, said Toyota you gave us cloth instead. Also a bit strange that Irish version comes with 6 more horse power than a UK one, and my money is on Toyota UK blaming emission regulation differences which forced them to detune the engine slightly for the UK market, maybe?. Ironically, I went to see one today in cherry red and loved everything about it. Speaking of the seats they actually are a lot more comfortable than on the basic trim. Nothing's wrong with basic trim seats, but GR Sport seats are just a notch better and you can really notice it.

    • @NobbyOnCars

i had the 2020 Honda civic which i loved, wanted to buy the new one but the price is ridiculous. i work a job which needs me to drive inner city all day every day and then start and stop traffic killed my fuel consumption in the civic. i bought this exact model with the full package and it just arrived yesterday. I'm the first one to have it in my city according to the merchant and I'm excited. its quite a downgrade on coolness and carsize from the civic but with the GR trim its makes up for it. its no sport car but i need a small car for parking and a cheaper option as my civic. so i have this now which is a nice middle ground for my situation

Why why why toyota ...didn't you fit the 2.0 litre hybrid lump into this GR model???????? Its no different to the standard 1.5 hybrid in performance....this car with 180bhp would be a weapon ! Worthy of that badge ! But also needed upgraded seats ! Not just a GR badge sewn into it! Such a missed opportunity from toyota to make a pocket rocket that would be amazing on fuel????

In the UK I'm not quite sure why you'd bother. It's no faster or more characterful than the other Yaris models - it's just some sporty trim. It's a bit of a "nothing sandwich", therefore. I'd say either buy the lower-spec car and save some money or spend the extra to buy an actual GR Yaris. I think Toyota don't offer the smaller engines over here because then they're even getting closer to the Aygo X.
Toyota UK seem to have lost it a bit recently making some very odd decisions (no, guys. Nobody want's a Mirai... Put it away now, please) discontinuing the Prius, discontinuing the AWD versions of most models. There was a AWD Prius, Yaris X and CHR - there isn't any more. And the RAV4 is fecking expensive here now, too.

I recently test drove a GR Sport back to back with an Excel trim and the feel of the GR Sport was far and away superior to the Excel, at least, for what I wanted anyway. So much so that I put my deposit down there and then! It just felt firmer and tauter than the Excel, with a bit more feel and steering response on the initial turn in. The route I drove was the same in both, and the GR Sport straight away felt more at home on the windier bits of road. I have to say as well that it looks fantastic, particularly in the Ash Grey / Black roof combo I went for. The Excel trim just felt a bit, dare I say, ‘grandad’ to me and being second hand, the light coloured interior trim was already pretty dirty on the door card, which surprised me considering it wasn’t even 2 years old. Just have to wait for a year now for it to arrive… Cannot. Wait. 😁

  • @tanner1ie
    @tanner1ie ปีที่แล้ว

Edit - I posted my comment before I actually watched this video, I didn't realise that there was a "GR lite" normal trim of the standard Yaris, I assumed this was a refreshed version of the actual GR Yaris, which of course starts at €50,000, but everything else I said still stands true 🤔😀...)
I love that this exists, though pity it's so dear, however unfortunately between manufacturers apathy and in particular due to toughening E.U. regulations, overall we seem to be heading for the death of sports cars, or at least the death of affordable sports cars!...
The new Nissan Z, Subaru BRZ, and Honda Integra won't be sold in Europe, while unless Toyota can get around the silly new European roof regulations, they won't be able to sell the GR86 here much past 2023...
While clearly they're not making close to enough of them, as supposedly the entire two year U.K. "allocation" of GR86s sold out in 40 minutes!!
Similarly while the GR Yaris only came out in Europe and Japan, but not in the U.S., the GR Corolla isn't coming out in Europe either, it seems...
While Mazda teased the RX-Vision in 2015, it was only a mock-up at the Tokyo car show and it was never shown to be to driveable and aside from the car appearing in Gran Turismo, it may never enter production!
Many brands, models and specs are only available in certain countries too...
As you know, there are so many things we don't get here in Ireland that they get in the U.K., even though we all drive RHD cars, ...
We never got the Nissan 350Z, 370Z or the GTR...
We can't get the Alpine A110 or the new Hyundai subbrand, Genesis ...
In particular, I watched a video Top Gear did comparing the new GR86 to the new manual 3.0L Supra, before watching this video, though we can't get either right now...
While we can buy the 3.0L Supra, as a damn automatic, we can't buy the 2.0L, while the two specs of the Supra we can buy are €95,000 and €98,000!
As dear as the 3.0L is, a manual version would surely be a bit cheaper, as the new GR86 in the version any normal person will want is launching at "only" £30,000, while the optional automatic is about £3,000 dearer...
(Of course the first gen GT86 was called an entry-level sports car, but of course the way bloody VRT and VAT is then charged on the price after VRT is added, it started at €45,000, which was of course way too dear - but at least you could still buy it here...
Meanwhile the BRZ was "only" €40,000, because it was automatic only!...
So how much would they charge for the new GR86 if they actually pulled their fingers out and sold them here if the GR Yaris is €50,000-60,000?!...
The same €50,000 or would it start at €60,000, because the GR86 is a high class than the Yaris - of course both should be less than €40,000!)
Lastly off the top of my head, on the MX-5, outside of the literally 10 30th Anniversary edition models released here, Mazda never released the new 2.0L engine here, selling the old 2.0L engines until they assumedly stopped being produced and now only sell the car with the 1.5L engine!
All in, one way or another, affordable sports cars are dying 😯😐 .
I want these companies firstly to build more sports cars, get around the silly regulations or negotiate with the powers that be to drop them altogether, sell them cheaper, at very least sell us the same stuff they give the U.K. and lastly bring them all out on every continent!
All in, I'm pretty annoyed and disappointed that all these cool things exist (or in the case of the RX-Vision, could exist), but they won't let us have most of them or charge us a fortune if they will 😯😐😂
Edit - On the cost of things, I just checked and the GR Yaris is actually a bit dearer than the GR86, it starts at £32,000 when the latter is as said "only" £30,000...
Anyway again, surely they should just make more of them, let us buy them and sell them for less than €40,000!
