    I love the respect you pay to the craftsmanship.. it is pretty cool the last set of hands to touch those points and blades before yours was a very skilled Craftsman!

      I feel the same when I come across point, pure excitement and wonder, touching something that hasn’t been touched in hundreds, even thousands of years. The time and skill invested in each and every point.

    Thanks for showing us your finds. The variety of types, color and size in your area is remarkable . Hope you eventually get that calf creek . If you find more than one on a gravel bar that’s not huge you might try to trench dig . Probably more practical on a smaller stream. Don’t give up! Can’t wait to see you find one!

    The arrowheads i find are tiny compared to those.. except for a few larger ones they were made for birds.. like duck and geese. Along the north oregon coast when the ducks migrated the flocks would darken the sky. The arrows were short and the bows very small. Many of the heads are an inch or less

    You found some good ones. I just got back from a 4 hour creek walk and only found a black flint tip. Its inch and a half long and bi-face. I struggle to find anything in creeks. I dont hunt the river here by my house. The rock bars are just to big for me. They can be a half mile long and 300 ft wide. Be all day on one and hardly cover it. I like the smaller creeks. Cover more in less time.
    Dont frets over the Calffcreek. I'd be happy with it. In almost 40 years of hunting points I've never found a whole one. I found 2 mostly there one's. One had a plow bite on the midsection and missing an ear and the other was missing an ear and half the base. I got about 5 that's broke in half. I've never found a whole lost Lake either. Their not common in the part of Indiana I live in. Mostly found along the Ohio River and scattered on the Wabash River. Not sure how common Calffcreek. are in central Indiana.
    Man keep them coming. Them was some good eye candy to a guy that's limited cause crops are up covering everything.
    Thanks for sharing.

      The gravel bars I hunt are gigantic. I just pick an area and go over it very carefully. It could take many many hunts just to hunt one gravel bar thoroughly, and there are probably 30 or 40 bars that size within 20 a minute drive from my house.

    After recording them do you put them back? I imagine the indigenous community whose ancestors made them would want them left in the cultural landscape.

    • @edwardfullerton9569
      @edwardfullerton9569 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      How does leaving a piece of stone carved hundreds or thousands of years ago in a sandbar add to the cultural landscape? They are rocks in a pile of sand and rocks. It’s not like we’re talking about grave robbing here. Arrowhead hunting encourages people to learn about the culture, traditions, customs, etc… of the people who left these items behind. It clues people in to how hard it must have been to survive as a primitive culture. Leaving them, especially around water, allows them to deteriorate and not be appreciated by anyone.

    • @alexbannatyne8608
      @alexbannatyne8608 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess I'm coming at it from an Australian indigenous perspective. Its illegal here to remove cultural artifacts from their location. Alot of aboriginal communities around Australia know that artifacts made by their ancestors are laying in situ. They take their young people to these sites and educate them on their cultural history. The artifacts are much more than just rocks. They are a tangible link to their culture past and present. They also act as a physical as well as spiritual link to their ancestors. When they are removed and placed in private collections, the opportunity to show and educate their young about their cultural history in the living landscape is lost. So to is the direct link to their ancestors. Most of their culture has already been lost or destroyed. Sometimes stone artifacts are all they have left.
      I suppose if I had a place where I knew I could go and see and hold tools that my forebears had made and which connected me to that place and then one day went there to find them gone (not due to natural processes) then it would feel as if a part of me and the little bit of cultural connection I had left was gone too.
      I'm not judging...Lord knows I have been slapped off every high horse I ever rode, I was just wondering about how it goes over your way.
      All the best to you.
