Is it possible to distinguish the noise of the various components that accompany the diesel? For example, is it possible to hear the sound of the alternator, compressors and cooling fans? Or is it all melted and indistinguishable?
Yeah , the paxman was good in railway applications because no need for lagging round hot exhaust manifolds , if exhaust lagging comes loose it can set dried out leaves on fire in engine room .
@@wesleyholmes4360 yes I would think leaves could be a real issue around autumn time getting into the workings, my father used to work on the rail cars at Neville Hill and Hammerton street before that.
Interesting insight into what must be routine checks to you. Not often people upload things like this Thanks for sharing
WHAT !!! decibels are many !

Great video. ☺️ I just subscribed to your TH-cam channel. ☺️
The size of that turbocharger!!!
There are six turbos on this engine.
You checking exhaust gas temps there Wes ?
Yes 👍
Why are some EGT readings higher than others, is it because the hotter cylinders are running leaner?
Do they run water cooled exhaust manifolds and turbo
Yes mate the whole exhaust system. Is in a water cooled jacket 👍
@@wesleyholmes4360 Its a bit like a marine set up I guess not much airflow and in a confined space
