    Disc Golf Lesson 2 is about the WRIST SNAP (taking the disc from 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock position of the release). This technique will help you properly develop the snap of the wrist to throw the disc FAST.
    Note: this video emphasizes the wrist snap! It not about proper form for the rest of the body - I just want to emphasize practicing the wrist snap. - comments say I don’t tell you to follow through but I DO believe in FOLLOWING THROUGH! I’m just not emphasizing anything other than the wrist snap in this video.

    Wow. I have been playing recreational for years and have held the belief that the disc will rip out of my grip. I was taught that from day one. I've never been able to get great distance on shots and now I know why. I've been gorilla gripping it and taking feet off every shot. Thank you

      So many players are taught that and it's hard to un-learn but I swear, one you do, you'll start to throw much further! Glad I could pinpoint a habit! It took me some time to realize the disc ins't ripping out of my grip, too!

      @@DiscGolf101 yes sir and I thank you for pointing that out for me. I've been out in my local course just throwing bh hyzers and trying to get rid of that habit. I can tell an immediate difference by my disc's flight alone. Thanks again

    I had what I believe to be a huge Aha moment last pm.
    I've been slowing down my arm movement at the beginning of the forward movement. I started to feel the disc snap.
    Took 5 years actually believe that "Slow is smooth and smooth is far"-Danny Lindahl.
    The next thing I needed to work on was what is bracing and how do you do it when I'm moving forward?
    I see McBeth and others front foot so far forward and they throw against it NOT riding over the top of the knee like I've been doing.
    So in slowing down and staying back I felt the timing improve and I felt like I was throwing with my arm against the brace and it felt great and accurate. I guess I've been spinning more than moving side ways all this time. Been so focused on the 90* elbow and "ripping" it out of the hand, that I had know idea what was happening at what time in the pull through.
    I don't feel the pressure on my right lumbar anymore. Hope that pain will resolve after having it for 2yrs. Sucks getting old (57yo)
    Hope this makes sense.
    Can't wait to try it out in a round tonight.
    Thanks for posting.

      Hey Mark! Great notes.
      On Paul's foot being out front - I don't think he is trying to do that necessarily, he is usually on top on the release. Paul has commented on having his front foot slip. 2021 worlds. Rickey, Eagle, Calvin - they are all on top of the lead foot on release.
      Just keep your head over your feet and don't stand up. The back leg follows through and on the throw, pull through hard. Your front leg is straight but you are on top of it as you release the disc. Try not to really think about your front foot but rather think about throwing the disc and ending up on top of the front leg. Have a good follow through and unweight the back leg.
      Bracing is when they talk about keeping the toes perpendicular to throw, not straightening the leg. If the toe opens on your throw, you will pull to the right.

      Hey Mark! Got a video up today where I talk more about this for you. Bracing has multiple meanings in different sports. You are correct in your definition (for instance, baseball). But, in the disc golf community, many refer to 'bracing' as the stopping of your foot at perpendicular in the throw to increase hip rotation/strength/accuracy of the throw. Hopefully the video I posted today will help clarify this more!

    I play Tennis, Badminton, Golf and now Disc Golf. An while you are true that we are using wrist snaps in all those aports I want to emphasize that in none of these I have been taught to actively snap the wrist forward. In contrary, the tip that you usually get is a) relax the wrist, don't tighten up and b) focus on loading it late. It will snap on its own, thats a natural movement that no one has to actively think about. If they try anyways they probably do it to early and therefore with no power.

    • @DiscGolf101
      @DiscGolf101  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aloha yannikmuller, Thanks for writing . So the snap, I have newer videos talking on snap in my archives on how the wrist works when throwing.Check those out, I think they are very informative .So trying to get people to understand that the wrist is the throw. It takes time to develop throwing with wrist snap. It takes arm tension and a strong grip. Like for me I throw Innova Destroyers for my 400 + throws. Most people are throwing a ( - 3 ) disc to get distance. The difference is I have learned to get my wrist into my throw. I think about it every time I practice. I do different grip pressure and arm tension and throw. I have noticed the firmer the grip the farther I throw. Those videos I have on snap watch. Aloha Michael

    The wrist angle and grip are fine but the rest of this will wreck your body and create awful habits. ALWAYS use your whole body. ALWAYS follow through. Proper form is loose and smooth. Throwing 150 foot upshots takes almost nothing. Energy moves from the ground up slinging the arm out from the chest.

    • @DiscGolf101
      @DiscGolf101  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Jymmi, appreciate your input! Just to clarify, this video is just about focusing on getting the proper grip and wrist snap down. I am not talking about proper whole body form, I just want to exaggerate the necessity of the wrist snap and grip. Keep watching for further videos about stance, proper form, etc. You are correct about following through and using the body - but that is not the emphasis of this video nor what I try to show.

    The power in a tennis serve DOES NOT come from a wrist snap.
    Go do some research.
    Some of the power from a tennis serve comes from wrist pronation. Most of it comes from a kinetic chain that ends with wrist pronation.

    I actually had this aha moment last night. I started playing about 4 months ago, and I've been really trying to focus on generating arm speed with my body which was allowing me to get about 300 ft drives consistently but that was about it. Then, out of frustration, I just walked up to a disc, picked it up and slinged it and felt that wrist snap. Game changer. I'll have to work out the timing along with everything else, but it definitely generates another 25% of power and spin on my throws. I just hope it doesn't wreck my wrist over time lol.
    Anyway, thank you for the video. I think beginners miss out on the benefit of the wrist snap. You can get a lot of power with a good wrist snap without having to get the timing of the x step down, which takes a lot of time, practice and patience.

    • @DiscGolf101
      @DiscGolf101  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kristofer! Glad to hear you've discovered the wrist snap! It definitely changed my game, too. It shouldn't hurt your wrists so long as you're warming up properly and controlling the snap. It definitely adds power but you want to make sure you're maintaining control so you don't snap your wrist in a way that's detrimental over time! At the end of the day, your wrist is also helping with accuracy so control is a big aspect to learn for power, accuracy, and protection.
      Keep up the great work and hopefully some of my other videos can also help you with your x step and much more!

      Aloha Mark, so when I set my wrist I only do a little off set. When I throw half speed I can feel my wrist snap. I am throwing slow to try and feel for it (when practicing). But when I throw hard I cant feel it at all. I have a video Hope to get it out this Saturday called " How Snap Is Created " look for it. Think I Have a very good explanation on how it works in video. Have you ever tried snapping a towel it is a great tool to help feel the snap. I do have a video on the topic. Snap a towel to develop your snap. I think arm tension is the key to get a good wrist snap. I think the wrist snaps around or threw because you have tension in your arm.i think your arm almost stops for a moment and that allows your wrist to fire threw and your shoulders create the fallow threw.
      It in my new video. Hope I answered your question. Aloha Michael

    However, he looses credibility when he make analogies to other sports that he has zero knowledge about. (Golf is not played with the wrists, unless of course, your terrible at it.)
    When he stays in his lane (Disk Golf) he’s more than worth your time to not only listen to, but apply the information. Thanks for the information on the subtleties that make you better on up-shots.

      Hey Scott! Glad you enjoy the disc golf instructionals! It’s great to hear the feedback!
      I do however have a background in golf. Played for many years in fact. The wrist is incredibly important in disc golf and golf! A proper golf swing requires the wrist to be quite precise for both your accuracy and distance ability in golf. Wrist hinge, angle, flex, etc. and what I’m referencing in this video is the impact snap.
      Anyways! Glad you enjoyed the information and I hope these can help improve your gave in some way! 😃

      @@DiscGolf101 hey bro, you seem like a great guy. But sorry, when it comes to ball golf your incorrect. You’re describing what high handicappers/hacks try to do. I’ve worked with professional golfers for years. Pro golfers cover the ball, literally hit down on it, and they purposely take wrist timing out of it. A quality consistent swing has nothing to do with what you’re describing with “wrist timing.”
      Pro golfers use rotational ground force to cover the ball with hands well in front at contact. Wrists come through after contact as part of follow through. Like I said earlier. I can’t deny what your describing for disks golf.. it’s great information. But your knowledge on a true effective golf swing is lacking. But really who cares. What your providing to the disk community is fantastic!!! You break it down very well. Especially when you describe the work it takes to get better. No free rides, repetition, paying attention to detail. Etc. Have to work at it while paying attention to details. Thank you fort that!
      On another note,
      I’ve watched videos of big named pros who can throw a disk a mile, trying do describe what they do for the distance driver throws and Literally cringe at what they say. Because it doesn’t match up with what they are actually doing. There are kinesthetic principles relative to rotational ground forces that generate explosive hip power. These forces generate so much more speed and power compared to passive rotational
      movement. But I’ve had over 45 years of studying and teaching this stuff.
      What you talked about with disk golf and the wrist explosion, flick, or what ever you want to call it is great stuff. How to hold the disk, make it feel strong in the hand , angle of the wrist etc is all fantastic information and very helpful.
      Thank you, thank you.

      We can agree to disagree - you are correct about golfing with your irons, to create backspin on the green, but I was referring to drivers - hitting off the fairway you need the wrist.
      Anyways, we are both here for the disc golf 😂 Thank you for the encouragement and I'm glad you enjoy - you get what I'm trying to say about details and hard work and I appreciate that! You are wrong Scott…. I’ve taken many lessons on improving and increasing ball golf swing speed. One of the disciplines is to indeed snap the wrists at ball impact. You will be inaccurate in ball dispersion. However over time you will get to the right control of snap ( more distance) and accuracy. Oh my….. how old are you Scott ?
