You Definition of Technology is really fairly accurate. "Mechanical improvements that help make life better" is very close to the actual definition "application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes". People don't realize that a Scythe has a fair bit of technology into it. It has an interface, one that is designed in such a way that it encouraged its operator to hold it a certain way. If the operator holds it correctly it will be much more efficient to use as opposed to someone holding it incorrectly. Today people lack understanding and usually would look at a crooked stick with a blade like that is something that is not technology... when it totally is. Someone sat down and though about how best to design the Scythe to be "practical" in its application. Your vehicles, housing, clothing, utensils, and your phone are all "technology".

Very well said. After that its just a measure of the metric of tech.
A real world comparison is papyrus scrolls vs electronic tablets.
Papyrus scrolls is tech that cavemen didnt have, even though to us thats not technology at all. Only the metric is relative to the era of the observer.

In a way a wooden stick is technology if used as a club. It effectively becomes a lever at that point.

an object (flint blade, CERN supercollider) or knowledge ("bury seeds = more food!", "disinfect your surgical tools") that enables you to do something new or do the same thing less badly (create a source of food; kill fewer people with surgery). Power button and touchscreen optional.

I like the idea it's going with, the core mechanics are there in their basis, I'm curious about how much it expands in the current state of the game. Combat is a bit clunky though that's true, and I hope there's means later in the tech tree, or in the game development to craft from all/proximity storages not just player inventory, since you mentioned automation that's necessary imo. Good stuff, thanks again Splatt'

    • @cmcrisp42

Issue with your definition, not everything that was technological progress was a tool. Also your definition implies that it directly improves humans abilities. Irrigation was a very early technologic improvement, something that is neither a direct tool nor did it improve our ability past what our ability was already.

Come on Devs chest contents must count toward crafting , managing a limited inventory is not fun, maybe compromise by letting us connecta chest to the crafting table by placing it by it? we could have dedicated tables, like one for all related things to stone and wood in raw state, this other table for electronics, and so on.
Still Full crafting from any chest inside that base grid the game showed is not much to ask
A second nice feature is the ability to name the crafting tables and change its color scheme, so we can visually see '' ah my engine crafting spot is that one, I made it green''
same thing for chests on the color scheme. Plaques and sings to craft that you can write something on it or just put a symbol on it like the image of a gear for example is a nice way to give the player ways to improve the visual clarity of their base and customize things
You, my friendly splat viewer, might be reading this and thinking '' But I remember where I put stuff'' well maybe you wouldn't after a week or a month without playing organizing things helps a lot
I find the art style of this game pleasing for a crafting game it has details but it does not overwhelm you with it.

No, things inside of chests should not be pulled automatically for crafting. Wanting that is just signs of a lazy gamer, why not just take your idea further then and have it pull needed items from the the whole surrounding area without even needing to go out and get it. Why, because it would be lazy gaming that's why.
And what the hell kind of cauliflower was your roommate cooking. I cook cauliflower 2 or three times a week and never get any rank smell.
