"There are 4 of us alive, 1996 are dead, but we're OK for now." You're OK? I assure you, you are most definitely *NOT* OK.
Pretty sure that the 2000 number was quoted for the number of crew members aboard the various ships of the fleet (2,000 hearts aboard). This is one ship in that fleet, and the whole narrative in the gameplay is interacting with another one. The only ship verified to be completely lost at this point was the Heraditus.
Not necessarily easy to follow, I know, but the literal language of all dialogue and the intros gives one the impression that there are more survivors than just 4 among all the remaining ships. That's where the round of patients are coming from, right?
If it's emotionally, then I'd be fine as long as my wife and kids weren't on board.
When the line "Humanity gradually came to its senses." (4:14) was spoken, I knew this was a sci-fi game.
I think it just depends on how high a key the 'gradually' is.
Awww
Not Sci-Fi...Fantasy
The Event Horizon - one of the best sci-fi horrors I've seen, and the only horror movie ever that made it difficult for me to sleep afterwards - word of wisdom, don't watch around midnight, in a dark room all by yourself. Or do just that if you enjoy this kind of thrill...
I agree with you, but I think its more on the point of it being the best done at the time. Obviously, it set a certain standard, and when Dead Space appeared for the 1st time, I think they actually said that a big influence was Event Horizon
Me at a friend's house at 11:30PM while they are watching Event Horizon: We're leaving.
@@pascaletudor Dead Space is lika an unholy child of The Event Horizon and Carpenter's The Thing....
Event Horizon was Awsome!!
It would have been funny if the narator went from "We were ready for what was next!....." warp in to "No, no we weren't!" commence the explosions! =]
"We were wrong....."
"We were ready for what was next!"
*Illidan Stormrage wants to know your location*
I'm not sure they thought the day night cycle through, you only get that on a planet, floating around space there isn't one, but the further you get away from a star the less energy you'll get.
It seems a lot like planet base with weird connections for power and what not.
@@Forien The space station orbits the earth every 90 mins, so it's not really and depending on the orbit you won't have to deal with a dark cycle at all.
@@Forien True, it relative.
I can't play a game that thinks there's a diurnal cycle in space, like the old joke about landing on the sun if we go at night. There is only so much stupidity before it snaps my suspenders of disbelief.
I didn't know there are sunset, night and sunrise in space.
I love when you play games like this. You are the perfect youtuber for these types of games. Keep it up!
I *really* want a SplatterCat episode on Vintage Story. You could easily do a whole series on it. The game's beautiful and immersive.
I love science fiction games! Well, I love lots of different games, but for awhile, it seemed like everything was fantasy. So this explosion of science fiction games is just what I want to see. Admittedly, most of them don't really appeal to me. But some do. (Shadow Empire has been _great,_ even though I'm not in any way a wargamer.)
On the other hand, card games turn me off. Oddly enough, even Shadow Empire has cards, more or less. But... I don't know. It's not quite the same thing.
And obviously, tastes vary. It doesn't matter to _me_ what kind of game someone else likes to play. But as a 70-year-old gamer, I remember a time when computer games were very scarce, indeed. These days, I don't even have time to keep up with all of the game news, let alone actually _play_ all of them. It's great! :)
When he said pop culture is all I have...I felt that.
Start reading so your culture will grow up!
POP culture is only MARKETING agenda to make you BUY stuff ;)
"Splatter Cat, what is the power house of the cell?"
"Mesopotamia!"
"Whenever I play shadowrun , I always play a rigger" -Splattercat I didn't think I could love this guy anymore than I already did.
I want to like games like this--generally though they are more complicated than I care for. This seems like a good balance for me.
I played banished and was having fun failing for a while xD. But I do not know if banished ever was a game that let you become stable?
@@northerntarantulasBanished can be fairly stable, but you have to be ahead of the curve and play it proactively.
@@comingviking hahaha i be reactionary
How very Farscape + Seveneves of an opening, i dig it.
Just what I needed after a long day
I probably missed it, but is there a reason the base is in a geostationary orbit that causes the planet to block the sunlight? Other than it's a gameplay mechanic?
Yes! been wanting a game like this since Space Colony!
Why would the solar panel only work during "daytime"? You're in space and not bound to a dirtball that rotates.
Kudos for them making animated cutscenes, instead of slide shows.
I would assume that since the primary module is fully functional the wires will already have been built into the walls, any further expansion will just connect to existing plugs. That´s how regular buildings are built, you plan ahead for any future electrical wiring. Connecting/arranging wires after building a structure just doesn´t sound very practical.
Wait.....
A day/night cycle in space?
I get the intent, but I feel like that may have been overlooked a bit....
Nice review. There is a game called Falling Frontier testing in June or so. Its an RTS. One man project. You should review it when it's available.
Falling Frontier looks really interesting, I hope Splatty does get a chance to review this game as well.
Ive had an eye on that game for a while, really hoping it plays as good as it sounds!
someone should tell the people who made this game that there is no night when you're in space...
Depends. That Spacestation most likely orbits a planet, so planetary shadow is a thing. But not really a gradual one.
This game looks like fun. Nice twist on a colony builder.
"How many of you are survived?" Now, i'm not an English mother language but that sounds wrong xD
28:50 Can you link batteries together so that they share the load across the entire base? Did you need to add o2 and heat to the docking bay?
I think the pattern here is that 1 solar panel connects to 1 engineering bay. If you keep the spacing between engineering bays correct, you can just expand continuously in one direction
i think the reason games tend to go on a trend streak is because some of those indie developers don't have a great budget for marketing their game, they work on other projects until their genre trends, to maximize the audience viewership
Can we all just pause for 10 seconds and acknowledge the swagger?
"Moshi Moshi, SplatterCat desu ..." Killed me right there XD I'ma call u Splatter-Neko from now on
these folk are really chill for being dead on space whit no resources more than what is left of the ship... its like a loose loose situation unless u can go to the planet sometime
I was THINKING about getting this game, BUT then I looked at the steam news and community page, and oh boy am I glad I did. This game is BROKEN to all hell and back, with people saying as recently as January 2nd, 2022 that once you get past the opening few missions and things start to get a little more demanding. The AI bugs out to the point where the game is UNPLAYABLE because the AI characters dont want to do what you tell them to, they drag their feet when given tasks to complete causing you to lose the game because you cant keep up with the tasks due the AI refusing to work. I'm writing this today 1/26/2022 and NONE of the game breaking bugs in this game have been patched. And there has been ZERO updates with the devs going dark since their last update on steam on August 31st, 2021. If your considering buying this game, DON'T. There are much better space sim games out there that HAVN'T been abandoned by their devs. Just an FYI!
Really curious to see how the UI and later stages hold up.
I love these kinds of ant farm colony kind of games.
sooo for night came to station IN SPACE sun goes hide behind WHAT? is it orbital?
I remember seeing a few games with similar concepts. The graphics in this are different though, IIRC there was another like this that used pixel graphs only. I do wonder if the life support item could be used to support more than just one module, because otherwise you'll have to build a huge amount of those life support modules...
yeah sometime on the near future of the gameplay u will have to shut down sectors of the ship to manage the rest and that so i guess they will make u jump trough loops to survive
... yes. let's jump through this wormhole that sizable chunks of the moon have gone through... Im sure there isn't a rock waiting to hit us on the other side...
We want this game NOW on Steam! 🍷🍹
I think it's super funny that they use daytime and nighttime cycles on a spaceship... cool looking game though
Um, so the wormhole has massive gravity on one side, enough to rip up the moon? Wow! Okay.
And you go through it (and somehow don't get crushed heading toward it)? Unlikely.
And what does it do on the other side? How the heck does that work?
I have many questions... Like "Can Superman pee into the wind?". The world may never know.
Anyone can pee into the wind. :P
@@tarsis6123 Towards maybe, but I'm sure the wind pushes right back at ya!
“…and reruns all become our history …”
Just started watching this a year later thinking, "oh this looks interesting!" Check reviews.... ick, nevermind! :)
lol just did the same thing.
i say your vid, said to myself. i need this game. and steam said, "no you gotta wait. not available yet." i almost cried.
🤣
interesting game but it leaves too many questions. how much energy is consumed? how many rooms can one life support module support? etc.
Yes! At last a Planetbase like game.
What´s your diploma in?
"Mesopotamia!"
Idk why you felt the need to send life support to the power modules instead of the actual live support room. I feel like that room would need maintenance more than the power module but eh.
The modules and how there put together reminds me of Subnautica
Yes, please, more of this on twitch.
I would like to see more! Have you seen winter survival? It looks like a cross between the forest and the long dark. I'd love to see you play it!
The slots remind me of the old xcom mars colonization game. Boy thats an old game to bring up. It still holds up graphically, surprisingly!
Ah, yes.. when the guy from Jurassic Park went into space with Morphius.
Well, time for me to make a space cyberpunk card game. Distopian society on a space station? Maybe a CCG, with you earning random "teammates" for your deck as you win card based "combat"?
that other planet is most likely being bombarded by the moon's fragments
This game looks pretty darn decent, would love to see more Splat :D
This game looks great. And, as always, I really REALLY like you positive style of playing games.
@SplatterCatGaming a friend of mine and i laughed our asses off in the cinema watching event horizon in a way that other customers wanted to throw us out... great movie!
So, you acted like an a'hole, then went on YT to brag about it? OK...
@@lucidnonsense942 we where young. And it actually is fucking funny. In my opinion, still, poeple who take movies like that seriously are somewhat crazy.
People want to believe that there is life somewhere out there. They want to believe that perhaps our origins are not from this planet at all. But logic would dictate that if we ever came to this planet, we would have the same means by which to leave, and the fact that we have to build ships to leave, is an indication that we never arrived here in ships, because our origins are of this earth.
I relistened to the tape captain and it says: Libera Te Tutemet Ex Inferis. Save yourself ... from hell.
Looks like an actually complete SpaceBase DF-9
this voiceover script sounds like a fanfic level writing haha
Well it's not out yet, it may be improved later.
I mean the part where they word it so that they imply the destruction of the moon will lead directly to extinction level event on earth, ridiculous.
Here and there you can tell that English is not the developers' first language. Hopefully if the game gains traction, they can get someone to address that.
Lol wow I didn't notice at first but after reading this I went back 😅 wow
Floating Planetbase was kinda what I was thinking too.
This was actually interesting.
oh wow, hogman's voice actor played nick tatopoulos in the Godzilla The Series show in 98
The premise of this game is really cool
SplatterCat: "...Click on dat!"
what is the purpose of separating life support into oxygen and heat?
Game doesn't come out until may? That sucks. Also your solar panel seems like it's gaining more than it's dipping, especially at peak hours.. additional batteries would still help. Would love to be able to try this out.
How is there sunset in space? They're not even orbit locked?
Splattercat loves Probes. *cough*
i thought i was missing something when i noticed a large majority of the latest games that came out were cyberpunk. Think it will be fantasy next? or something more like Life is Strange, in the present?
This modular base system reminds me of No man sky or Subnotica.
Great Movie!
Yeah, unless the sun is flat as well, I'm pretty sure there's no day/night cycle in space.
can the E.L.D only supply one single room? do you have to build one for each and every damn room? thats just stupid.
"Where we are going, we dont need eyes"
The base building in this reminds me of Genesis Alpha One
Event Horizon is a Warhammer 40k movie, change my mind!
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
I'm off to play planetbase seeing as though this isn't available yet
What the hell does "night" mean in space? Does the sun go somewhere?
7:35 to skip all cinematics and get to gameplay
Note to developers : the resource distribution system is stupid, you are basically giving up on a very interesting mechanic by doing this, this is how you should have done, corridors should have pipes with valves on them and you should be able to close or open values to let the flow continue, that would create really interesting gameplay opportunities as well, where like movies people can get stranded in places without oxygen etc, further more people transporting boxes of materials to devices that need them is also very interesting to see, further more please donot dumb down the resource management, people playing games like this arent dumb, give us oxygen in litres and power in watt hours etc make the resources more detailed,
Can the E.L.D not support more then one object or room at a time?
It supports two mudules
on my wish list looking fun
Need more than one way in and out of each module otherwise you will have bottle necks.
Wait, hold on, you played the tutorial and you didn't know you couldn't pause the game at all?
Also, I'm no physicist or astronomer, but at the other end of the wormhole, there is a planet on which humans are heading to make a new start. But my problem is, that the wormhole is sucking everything up on the other side and spewing them towards that very planet. Wouldn't the planet's gravitational pull attract that debris and the planet will be bombarded by them until there is nothing left on the other side?
Yeah, fads are like that - they come and go. However it is interesting to see that Cyberpunkish game are still in demand. I'd assume that it's time for that particular fad to slowly phase out. Hm.
But...... Why is there a day night cycle?
Just added this to my wish list
I know it's gonna be a game and it's a apocalypse sim
The character dialog animations are a bit uncanny. Looks like they took the algorithms as-is from Tron Legacy and young Bridges.
i was hearing faint clicks in the background and thought it was insects, but it's the text appearing in the game, 6:45 uuuuhgg...
Sooooooo... can we have a series? I miss those days
Twitch killed series on YT - not enough views. If you want to see Splat do playthroughs, go to his twitch channel - you can see the vods for the older playthroughs.
@@lucidnonsense942 Oh cool! Thanks
Reminds me of the science Station of Anno 2205.
Game looks pretty.
This game reminds me of StellarHub, the 2D version of this game.
Looks fun
Ehw I cant get over thinking why would that wormhole stay next to Earth. Earth isn't stationary, its trapped in Sun's gravity and orbiting it at immense speed. Which shouldn't affect wormhole, and if it does, not at the same magnitude. Then there's our solar system traveling at even greater speed in Milky Way. Etc
The clicking of the text is louder than the voice actor.
