I've been taking omeprazole for 6 years, and it's causing chronic iron deficiency anemia due to the low stomach acid. Stomach acid helps with iron absorption.
@bird.passion That's interesting. I'm 53 now, but from the age of 22, I was put on 20mg of Omeprazole daily due to a Something hernia. My doctor did warn me back then, though, that only take them. When really necessary because new studies had just come out (back then) that it caused stomach problems, etc, later on in life, especially how young I was. I have really tried to only have one. When really needed but I can feel that my stomach needs to be checked again because I wake up throwing up now.
Hi Doc! Critical Care Old Nurse here! I’m just thinking about the Respiratory Risks, Upper Respiratory Infections and Pneumonia. Do you think that the medicine can definitely cause these? Or, that perhaps, a GERD patient already HAS regurgitation that happens silently, perhaps at night- thus, leading to a predisposition of URI and Pneumonia? That’s just my general hypothesis and curious to know yours. Thanks so much! Great video!
Whoa! That all good news then .. not. I’m about to restart taking this stuff prior to a second gastroscopy procedure next month… none of these side effects were explained to me at all. Hence I researched it here and elsewhere. Cheers for the info
Also I do have low magnesium and calcium. I’m on both extra absorption or fast. I’m on so many pills. I don’t think I need half of them. I take 10 to 13 in the morning and 8 at night.
Hello JJ Medicine, I am going to be really cheeky here but is there any way to change the video spelling to British English. I love them and some of the videos would be great for my students but they need to use British English particularly in practice.
I have a lot of the side effects with this pill. I have been on since 2007 from my heart transplant. They never took me off of it. I have kidney issues , bowel , pain in chest at times, I get pains in my lower abdomen. Along with other ones. I heard I could replace this with apple cider vinegar. Is that true? I am also on anti rejection medication for the transplant. I think I will call my transplant team and see if I should still be on it.
@ thank you. After watching the video. I stopped taking it. I’m filling up my pill case I’m not putting that in the cubes for this week. Thank you God bless all who are concerned. Love you all.
@@ldjt6184 so far I feel ok. No acid reflux or issues from stopping it. I will keep in touch. I know the Lord is with me . I’ll get through anything with Him.
I've taken Omeprazole for many years, because i suffer with GERD,and Gastritis, knot heartburn! I know your knot supposed,to be on them long term. I think you should get off this drug. There are many other things you can do/take that won't destroy your gut.

I think you have to come off it slowly, speak to a pharmacist.

Sorry to hear about your mother's passing. What was it about the medication that affected her negatively?
