So if they do ban it, does this mean that they'll disable the app, software, etc. which means you won't even be able to turn on the controller and start up the drone? Does it also mean that if you were to fly the DJI drone somehow just for fun, the FAA will notice it and you'll receive hefty fine? I was just about to buy the DJI Mini Pro 4 for vlogging and it's unfortunate that I just heard about this news while on lunch break. I really hope they don't ban it because I really want to start vlogging and just about everything I need to invest is pretty much going down the hill.

Honestly, that comes down to your situation. I would say you're okay to go ahead and continue with your purchase because what I'm hearing indicates this won't be an immediate ban. It will be a 5-year plan that includes increased tariffs on DJI imports year-over-year. At the conclusion of the 5th year is when DJI drones would be banned (should this pass). At this point we don't know what that ban looks like or how they would enforce it -- it will likely come in the form of either only banning new products and/or bricking existing drones via firmware updates. If I were in your shoes I would still continue with the purchase...but be prepared in a worst-case scenario to either return it or potentially cease using it in 2030.

You should be concerned, because it's a real possibility. Of course the app would be banned. You won't be able to. DJI products have geofencing. They don't have to, and they won't buy it back from you. Although you could try to sue them. 👍

You SHOULD be concerned...I've been doing research and frankly there is a lot going on and the nuance of this issue is complex, but at the end of the day I couldn't give a shit less about data being collected. My concerns lie solely with small business owners and volunteer outfits who have invested literally thousands of dollars into this technology that will be absolutely boned if this legislation passes. There's too much at stake for people like you and me. This is a big deal. I won't pretend to know your situation, but if not for the accessibility and capabilities of DJI technology, my business would be non-existent. I have plans b, c, and d to pivot to in the event this ban does happen...but ideally we stay the course and keep DJI alive in the United States because all three of my backup plans involve me taking steps backward in order to keep moving forward.
