I read that several government agencies, the FBI being one of them, have already banned DJI drones from being used for their purposes. I don't know if this is true, but I am worried because I am presently trying to get a contract with an agricultural government agency and I'm afraid that I won't be able to use a DJI multispectral drone. That's an area of concern that has not been discussed, but many government contractors will be at risk if government agencies can ban DJI drones.
I suspect two things. Its always follow the money. Skydio cant compete and pulls out of the mid price drone market, then suddenly their fingerprints are all over a ban of the competitor they couldn't beat. Also big companies want to be able to go to drone delivery, to not have to pay all those pesky delivery drivers. I would be shocked if there arent huge bribes getting spread around congress to get those things done. Two separate interests that need the same starting line, and theres a lot of money to be made if they get the dji ban done.

I just picked up an Air 3 with the RC2 controller. If I pair my Mini 4 Pro to the RC2 controller, do I have to repair to the Air 3 when I use that drone and vice versa?
Agreed, and if they are really worried about the 1 to 2 million recreational drones, what about the billions of birds that fly around LOL, I have yet to see another drone fly near me but I see great horned owl, bold eagles, hawks, ravens, crows etc... will they be passing a bill to ground those as well so they can deliver a package via their delivery drones?
Hey man I’m some what of a new subscriber to your channel. I’ve watched quite a bit of your videos and you seem very knowledgeable when it comes to this hobby and DJI drones. I’ve been flying DJI recreational since 2021 and have been looking to purchase a Mavic 3T for commercial use. In your opinion, do you think I should not buy DJI for commercial purposes?
I used to agree with you. I have done some digging and I am not sure I do anymore. My opinion now is divided. The american alternatives are sub-par and more expensive. That is why people have been flocking to DJI. Let’s make things better and affordable and people will buy it. After all, for an equal drone which one would you buy, Made in China or Made in USA.
Pokemon Go, A game on millions of phone is actually sending pictures back that are taken by its users to give china full 3D images of every town, city, building inside and out in the USA. Every single place of consequence is fully detailed because they are a gym or stop. That game is in 10,000 homes vs 1 with a drone. That game is a million times the threat of DJI drones....
The US Department of Defense has observed in Ukraine how a $600 consumer drone can be effective against a $10,000,000 M1 Abrams tank. They are likely considering how to address such asymmetries in future conflicts. While they strategize on a grand scale, many Americans may not fully grasp the complexity of these issues.
The biggest fact if there so worry about the data transfer then force dji to create firmware to avoid this from happening let usa make the firmware they must use and that we analyze this firmwre for its validity and if it passes usa standards but the fact is we have drones and satellites that can see the shoe sizes of everyone in china if we wanted to as well as the rest of the world just like all major countries
Fact: According to FCC-22-84A1.pdf (section 114), the FCC can revoke previous authorizations when a company is added to the "covered list". Everyone is assuming the FCC will not do this to DJI because they have not revoked the previous FCC authorization of the other vendors currently on the covered list. IF (and that's clearly a big IF) the NDAA passes with the current House of Representative language, it COULD become illegal to fly any and all DJI drones depending on what the FCC decides to do with previous authorizations. Nobody knows for sure, but the possibility of previous authorization being revoked does exist.
No one‘s buying it the newest drones from Dji why would you spend money that’s gonna get banned and also the value is not worth it now!!🤔 Dji needs to pay lawyers, lawmakers to kept away from getting banned here in the US it’s time to pay a big price like ourselves as a consumer paying a heavy price tag of Dji Drones over the years!!!
It is no shock that this legislation drama came at the same time Brinc announced its new first responder systems and skydio is putting out first responder ads for thier new drones
There are so many drone pilot influencers on TH-cam just clickbaiting the heck out of this DJI ban, with claims that all DJI products will be banned, including mics and cameras.
DJI sends information to Chinese cloud storage including facial recognition and GPS location. Sandia national labs has a classified report that they have requested be unclassified and published. They do pose a threat, this is not just a conspiracy to promote American drones, although I do worry about the implications for the hobbyist sector once this ban goes into effect.
@@51Drones cisa is still quoting it and has additional classified reports. I get that you have a financial interest in this but I’m watching from a different perspective. There is no debate that China has access to their aws cloud instance. As to the date collection and analytics the capability of the platforms has certainly evolved, but until those reports are declassified it’s speculative.
@@monkeyelvis If they truly want full support for this ban, then declassify for all to see. Only then, will I believe what they are claiming to be true.
@@51Drones I agree with you 100%. Full transparency should have been the beginning of any discussion about banning any product. It should only be a last resort. I don’t like that it’s even being considered and I wish a compromise could be reached where DJI allows reviews of the firmware and code.
if this were a real security threat, any connected electronics made or originating from China would need to be considered for ban too. The phones we all have, tablets, the vehicles we drive, digital cameras, and so on. These devices could easily provide more sensitive data. This is crony capitalism, and I am disappointed in Elise Stefanik - I thought she was better than this.
I live in Australia, but the possibility of a US ban on DJI concerns me because our regulators often follow the US lead. There’s also the fact that without the US market, DJI could struggle to innovate. I agree that a grab for the sub 400ft air space is probably the real driver for this.
The Chinese car makers keep on innovating without the US market. What makes you think that DJI can't do the same when it already commands >70% of the drone market in the world? Keep in mind that their revenue in China alone is already bigger than the US one as of 2 years ago. Sure it'll dent their revenue. But their home market is big enough to guarantee that they won't slow down. It'll be us in the US struggling to find replacements for the same price point.
I also live in Australia , I dont see it happening here, as this is all about protecting USA based Drones, which are totally rubbish, just like Australia has zero import tariff on Electric Cars from China, and now Usa has 100% tariff, we have no industry to protect here.
Australia and the U.S are not the same type of market. The Americans are implementing full scale protectionist measures over geostrategic competition with China. Australia has no industry to protect. Chinese cars have been allowed to be sold on the local market, Does Australia design and manufacture drones? The answer is of course not thus why would the government implement such a ban? It would trigger antagonism with China whilst also angering farmers and other civilian drone operators who rely on them to do their work. When it comes to these bans i think America will most likely stand alone. You might see some limited restrictions by U.S allies but from what i've seen they've already been dragged through the mud through Russia/Ukraine as well as the Middle East/Gaza/Red Sea crisis. They simply have no appetite to implement the wholesale banning like what we're seeing in the U.S.
Every bit of geographical information that any country wants is easily accessible on Google maps and satellite view. Why would they need drone imaging and information? Access to the internet provides anyone with a lot of information, private and public.

Just skip both of those, and go straight for the Mavic 3, standard or pro if your wallet can handle it. Just a pure beast in the wind, hardly care about it. Flying it now in Greece Karpathos, witch are an island known for heavy winds and gusts. I keep sending it up, and no issues at all, I would never send my mini up there thats for sure.
what about Amzu? they have the Mavic 3 enterprise clone, right?
Thank you Russ! Smart analysis! ;-) Fly well! T (Perhaps the bigger story is that political types need to earn the public's trust by legislating transparently and by being fully honest (with "we the people" who hire (elect) them) at all times. The mainstream media influencers should also follow suit. Don't you think?)
Just got my Air 3. Also Air 3 is 20% off. (AMZ, BB BH) are going fast
That is because air 4 or Air3s is on the way
@@stilmotionpicture with the potential ban I don’t think are going to develop anything new soon. Plus they are too busy selling drones by the thousands in Ukraine.
@@akrita81Ukraine is now manufacturing its own drones now, in which Ukrainian drones could end up being the best, most technological drones in the world some day? You know the whole quote, “necessity is the mother of invention”
I'm with you, I don't buy the national security thing. And if DJI is removed as an option, the other US made options will never improve since DJI isn't there to drive the innovation and value. And we'll all be buying ugly green Anzu versions of the same DJI products.
If it was actually about national security they’d shutdown google maps immediately.
Why aren’t they trying to ban Chinese ownership of land near military installations?
I have a question and I really don't know the proper way to direct it to you so I'll just ask it hear. I have a Mini 4 Pro with the RC-N2 controller. I just picked up an Air 3 with the RC2 controller. If I pair my Mini 4 Pro to the RC2 controller, do I have to repair to the Air 3 when I use that drone and vice versa?
There will never be a delivery drone highway....Too many weather variables to keep it from happening.
I’m confused. You say you don’t agree with me, but your statement is exactly what I believe. 🤷🏻♂️
The biggest fact if there so worry about the data transfer then force dji to create firmware to avoid this from happening let usa make the firmware they must use and that we analyze this firmwre for its validity and if it passes usa standards but the fact is we have drones and satellites that can see the shoe sizes of everyone in china if we wanted to as well as the rest of the world just like all major countries
why ?

Fact: According to FCC-22-84A1.pdf (section 114), the FCC can revoke previous authorizations when a company is added to the "covered list". Everyone is assuming the FCC will not do this to DJI because they have not revoked the previous FCC authorization of the other vendors currently on the covered list. IF (and that's clearly a big IF) the NDAA passes with the current House of Representative language, it COULD become illegal to fly any and all DJI drones depending on what the FCC decides to do with previous authorizations. Nobody knows for sure, but the possibility of previous authorization being revoked does exist.
I was thinking along the lines of the FAA themselves. What if they were to come out and say, no more registrations of DJI drones?
Myself im not worried, ill just go back to old school rc planes like i was doing back in the 80s & 90s ., thanks for the video Russ.
Me neither. I'll just fly my drones anyways, and pay to have someone import any new ones.
Dude, you’re clueless. Once they’re close to being banned the price on used drones and parts will skyrocket
Thank you for all the information and keeping the community educated.
That’s not clickbait. It’s a real possibility. Being on the covered list means no FCC certification, which means no network connection. 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for being the rock, Russ.
I hope they don't ban DJI drones
DJI sends information to Chinese cloud storage including facial recognition and GPS location. Sandia national labs has a classified report that they have requested be unclassified and published.
They do pose a threat, this is not just a conspiracy to promote American drones, although I do worry about the implications for the hobbyist sector once this ban goes into effect.

People like you are quoting a study done in 2017, before any additional security measures were put in place by DJI. It’s a much different time.
I am getting a mini air for sure before they all go OOS
My mini 2 is still the champ 👏
Ban, I paid a lot of money for my Dji. Ban it you better have some money to pay me.
if this were a real security threat, any connected electronics made or originating from China would need to be considered for ban too.
We have drone delivery already here in Ireland - Manna drones.
@@deeweeuavp We have it in limited places, but a huge expansion probably isn’t far away.
Damn that’s a interesting thought
This sounds like a deja vu! huawei anyone? 🤔
After making money with these it’s sometimes hard to remember the pure joy of flight. Thanks for reminding me.
You used the words "legislators" and "facts"... in the same sentence....that's an oxymoron.
Every bit of geographical information that any country wants is easily accessible on Google maps and satellite view. Why would they need drone imaging and information? Access to the internet provides anyone with a lot of information, private and public.
Good info as always Russ 👍
Thanks for the update
Must be sponsored by DJI !!!
The last opinion in this video really got me thinking. Great job 51 Drones for pointing that out. I think thats the main plan. Guys watch all the way through till the end.
At least we will still have caddx.
Live just outside of Waxahachie and cant help but notice your shirt.....If you ever get down here let me know and we could go out and enjoy our drones.

And I thought EU was the big bad Wolf in the drone world about stupid regulations and rules that don't make any practical sense at all. But hey, at least we won't be banned out of the sky (yet) and if that happens, I will go on a shopping spree at DJi. Anything else are just not good enough, and Skydio and Autel drones just need to step up their game big time, a ban won't help your business if you can't make what people want.
Autel drones are also a Chinese drone company headquartered in Shenzhen , China and would also be banned under this legislation
Drone footage they say they worry about but you have to believe thousands more of those cheap Chinese made security cameras are being sold everyday and since they all use the UIN to set them up there’s no telling how many Chinese servers all of that footage is passing through.
