  • HOW TO COMPOSE YOUR ABSTRACT PAINTING / Aiming for perfection and being afraid of making a wrong decision actually get in the way of creating successful paintings. Perfection doesn’t exist. It's that simple. So I changed my mindset from aiming for perfection to seeing a painting as having a personality. I explain how that works in this week's video.

I love the way you work. Your calmness is so inviting. I sometimes get so caught up in that desired perfection that I block (and stop) all my own inner creativity and that inner critic totally takes over. Your weekly videos have helped me so much to breathe, calm and relax. Thank you so, so much for taking the time to create these videos.

Thank you so much Bonnie. I think trying to tame our inner critic is one of the hardest things. With practice you can really make headway. Good luck. 🌸

I'm the same :/ I get into something feeling all excited, but then I start ripping it apart in my head and don't always finish. Trying to work on it....but it if definitely not easy :/
These videos are great though! :)

Very insightful. I am moving further into abstract painting as I love it so much. Being able to use marks, shapes, colour, and pattern just as they are is such a relief from representational art. Can’t wait to start. Also you have helped me in how I want to create my own blog and video tutorials.

    Question....
When your covering colors or an area are you using white paint and or with any medium...
I have watched your videos many times...
    Thank you

When I cover an area, it first depends if I want to cover it up completely or just a little. Almost all the time I add acrylic medium to my paints. 🌸

I use only Golden paints because I love the quality and I can rely on what they will do. They come in many forms and I use them all, fluid, open, and the heavy body. 🌸

What if your whole painting is too dark, and muddy from too many colors, too many brush strokes the same size? Do I put white on it let it dry and start over?

Adele, what color is the blue and cream?

    • @AdeleSypesteynStudio

Donna, every color I create is mixed from several colors. Sometimes I use straight black or white but that is all.

I would try ultramarine with white and a dash of orange.
