He’s so terrifying purely because he has arguable the power to do anything he chooses & literally hides away from the world in a cave waiting for a scent of home… that is a truly scary mindset.
if he revealed himself to the world he would never have peace because like geralt said every errant knight, adventurer, bounty hunter, etc. would be after him seeking the glory and fame slaying him would bring but he's so damn powerful that he could kill all his pursuers but their hunt would never end and as such he would never have the peace he wants while he waits for the door to his world to open
If memory serves me right he can summon other vampires, so I believe his most important purpose would be to summon all vampires to the cave when the portal reopens...
Imagine the slaughter and mayhem that would cause in Tousaint if that was to happen, by now literally thousands of vampires swarming the cave only to answer the call
@@aran5033Lots of slaves brought through I guess. Though I’d like to think if they are an unkillable scourge to us in this world, they’d find some negative to bringing humans back with them.
Really depends how focused they'd be on getting to the cave and through the portal. And given how irresistable his call is? I'm pretty sure any vampire answering would have borderline horseblinds on them as they beeline to the cave. As for bringing slaves... it is unknown how hospitable their world would be to humans. After all stressed humans give poor quality blood so even if vampires can keep the humans alive in their world chances are it'd be like switching from fine wine to cheap moonshine.
Slight correction: There are other elder vampires, but this is still the only one to remain in the opening cave at Toussaint. Therefore, it is possible the other clans had there own elder vampires and other elder vampires exist on the continent. However, if these vampires are active I find it incredibly surprising that no one in any witcher school or literature has ever mentioned them, despite being aware of every other vampire species. Which leads me to believe they either died out or hid in different locations. Despite this, I still believe this elder is particularly special and the leader for the reasons I stated in the above video! It's possible new information could be released one day to oppose this theory but I really believe this is the case for now. I hope you all enjoyed the video! I post updates on here so I'd appreciate anyone following, also here's my second channel, there's a few new videos on there about the witcher! Since elder vampires don’t have strong worldly (Continental) desires, they stay in their hideouts and leave no traces, becoming nigh impossible to track. There is also the idea that, which I think Geralt or someone mentions in the game, higher vampire species, elder or otherwise, are extremely dangerous even for witchers and avoidance is not uncommon.
Honestly this guy is one of the main things i am excited for the remake for. I really hope that we get a proper encounter with him and get to fight. I doubt we will but he is one of those creatures that I just really wish we could!
Truly amazing character. Could destroy the world with ease, but just wants to go back home. Not evil, doesn't need to be - just utterly indifferent until disturbed. It's an incredible, perfectly eerie, disturbing character and it fits this story so, so well. I suspect it's unlikely for a future witcher game to feature vampires this powerful in a casual way. They are far beyond the human level - even the best witcher level. Their purpose is to humble the most powerful protagonist - to make the player realize that despite how powerful they think they are, there is always something leagues above that could crush you like a bug.
I think Gaunter O'Dimm will crush this vampire easily. From the good guys, I believe if a group of witchers team up with a group of mages, this Unseen Elder will be defeated. Can not say the same for Gaunter, though.
@@wildyracing1 Considering how quick Higher Vampires can move and strike and considering how few the Witchers have become it's highly doubtful that they could destroy (in fact only another Higher Vampire can destroy a Higher Vampire and that's explicitly stated in the game) or even simply defeat the Unseen Elder. In fact I strongly believe that even if there were more Witchers in the world they would still fall to the unmatched prowess of Higher Vampires let alone the Unseen Elder.
@@bolg892there's nothing wrong with that doofus there was only need for 1 in the narrative of blood and wine it wouldn't make sense narratively if we saw multiple of these super rare beings in toussaint
Something that bugs me about the Elder's inclusion in this game is you don't get to see him if you're aiming for the best story ending. Which is a shame because the entire section involving him is amazing and it should be a part of the story regardless of the direction you take.
It is a part of the expasion. So main game ending has already ended by the time this quest arrives ? Are you talking about the expansion ending ? It was long ago so i don't remember exactly please expand on this !
"Best ending" is subjective. I personally *loathe* the "happy ending." Syanna does a little time in jail but beyond that gets off scot-free. Olgierd is forced to live with his actions if you save him. No Iris, no Vlodimir. A punishment fitting his sins. The Baron is either driven to suicide or regains a broken shell that was once his wife. Again, fitting punishment. But Syanna? Slap on the wrist. Look, Detlaff's not innocent here and he needs to face the consequences of his actions, but Syanna's not much better.
According to the books (as far as I remember) the FIRST Monsters in the World of Geralt appear during the spherical Conjunction about 1,500 years ago. The Witcher lore plays somewehre between the years 1200-1300 (time of Geralt). So, this means, that the first Monsters appeared around 300-200 BC in the Witcher. Elder Vampires are often portrayed as over or at least 1000 years old. Considering this fact, this Elder has to be among the first Monsters to "get created" in the Witcher Universe. That´s really impressive if you think about this.
Me at the beginning of the video while The Mandragora was playing:🕺🕺🕺 I was under the impression the Unseen Elder was there in case the portal to their world opens again, he's making sure to be there if it happens and making sure that no uninvited guests show up to their world. Also I think every tribe has an elder too. Lastly, he's possibly there to make sure the vampire society doesn't fall into anarchy, he has the power to summon anyone and it's obvious he can kill anyone with ease, but I don't think he's an active ruler. We know the vampire society has a set of rules everyone follows and if not they get expelled, so the Unseen Elder is probably making sure those rules are followed by just being a really big menace to any vampire who dares to create problems.
Regis does state at the end campfire though that "Nilfguaard doesn't even believe in vampires," but I guess that would change after the events that occurred previously.
Are you implying that Nilfgaard will go to war against the vampires? Ehmyr sure knows they exist, but you can't face an invisible and all-powerful force, it would be the ruin of his empire and mortals
@@matiasrodriguez7408 If Ehmyr doe's nothing, he will appear weak. He cannot ignore what happened. This wasnt a few people being killed, A whole duchy was under attack. Although, to do this, he'll need Witchers, to guide his troops. Maybe thats where the new protagonist comes in.
Do you think that the unseen elder would try to track down Ciri if he knew what she was? I’ve only played the Witcher three, so maybe I’m wrong. but can’t Ciri travel to other universities freely, and take people with her. Basically wouldn’t the unseen elder make her take him back to his home
I can see that happening, and it'd be truly crazy. I think Ciri should then just comply and help them get back to their world -- to be honest, it would benefit everybody and nobody could really stand up to the Elder anyway, so even if it wasn't the only solution, it'd still be the best.
@@emmanuel1337 True, Ciri would help them for sure.. kinda feels bad for Unseen Elder when he says "but the gate!" the moment Geralt mention that human would bury the cave..
The point I find mostly the most intriguing about the Elder Vampire is his weird barbed shaped necklace with a clan effigy as pendant. Also his tattoos/scars are weird too. i don't know if CD Projekt thought for any particular meaning about these points but well... kinda intriguing though
I have a more reasonable theory maybe he's a horn. Like a living breathing horn to call vampires because he was able to influence a vampire to show up at a particular location. Just by his sheer thought just by commanding him to go there. We seen that in The Witcher game in Blood and wine where one higher vampire was commanded directly by the unseen Elder to go to a particular location. He had no choice no say he was compelled to go there. So I have a theory that as soon as the gate starts to open up slowly but surely the unseen Elder will compel vampires from all over the world to go to the gate he's a living breathing horn to sound all vampires to return home. Because the higher vampires and vampires in general keeps saying that their guest refugees and like all. Guest in a home they will leave because look at it this way the elves are leaving they're not they have no desire to stay in the world of The Witcher because his populated by humans and humans treat them like garbage. One Elf Kingdom has already left they're gone. They don't have to worry about the wild Hunt anymore they don't have to worry about the winter coming to kill them. So yeah the elves are leaving this world and never coming back unless they have to. Monsters are on a very slow decline to the point of almost being rare. Magic is still strong but eventually it will fade away too the Witcher world is changing very slowly. Witchers can no longer be made and slowly their talents are being very rarely called for. Because armies have gotten strong enough dragons are slowly disappearing and hiding the world is changing and just like every great change the Vampires will leave. Because let's be honest vampires don't have that much to look forward to in this world sure the blood is one thing like an alcoholic drug but like all drugs it loses its splendor
@@matro2 I like it because it kind of makes sense that's the only possibility. I can find that the unseen Elder is guarding the gate. It seems like a lot of the higher vampires have respect for the unseen Elder he doesn't seem selfish. He does legitimately care he questions why should he help another higher vampire when he's supposed to be guarding the gate. And if he does help then he's possibly leading a vampire to their deaths and he doesn't want to kill other. Vampires he just wants to kill people who come into the cave who disturb him.
While I honestly hadn't even considered that he'd be the sole "ruler" of the vampires in the world of the Aen Seidhe it does seem plausible. One would assume there would be very few that are as old and powerful as him. As I see it the reason he stayed behind was 1: Because it was quiet and closer to home and he had no desire to explore this new world. 2: If he was the appointed ruler of all the tribes it would make the most sense for him to stay there. All the vampires will know that place as it is where they entered this new world. 3: In the end when (if) the portal reopens he will be there to safeguard and welcome back the other tribes as they return. As for whether I believe the portal will reopen. Shortly no. At the same time if it happened once that proves its possibility and given enough time it would be bound to happen again. I say no however, because as I see it it just seems too far fetched. It happened once. How much time happened before that first time? We don't know. It could be tens of thousands of years, maybe more before another conjunction occured. For that reason I don't believe it will happen in a context of The Witcher. Additionally by the time it does happen again it seems unlikely that the Unseen Elder's cave would still be standing. By assuming the same law again: that with enough time anything that is possible will happen, it would be a certainty that humans would find this mysterious cave and as humans do they would dig into it. Find the Elder and die. Then more would come in increasingly greater numbers. Death on a whole new scale. In the end it seems likely the humans would come to the conclusion that collapsing the cave would be their only option. Edit: Good video btw, George! (Forgot to say after writing that)
Collapse the cave or use magic and do whatever they can to bomb him out of existence, if there's enough magic users , even a group made up of mostly novices, if lead by a small group of powerful ones , like the lodge , I believe they could kill him but they would need tons of people to slow him down and or tons of summoned magic creatures to do it , or even other monsters
@@guyunknown6224 Oh I see, i think it would probably take every mage in existence + probably the most powerful alchemists creating the most potent anti vampire bombs. Although even then who knows
The Unseen Elder would be the kind of end boss required for a Ciri-led Witcher game. Just like what I think about Gaunter O’Dimm. Complete OP characters that simply could not be fought without an OP player character.
My guess is he was chosen by other vampires from his home world, who voted for him to checkout the portal when it opened, unknowingly getting stuck in this world. He obviously loved his home world so much he just told everyone else to bugger off and blamed everyone else for his predicament, like a ultra old and powerful man who just wants those darn kids to stay off his lawn.
Another thing about vampires in the Witcher is that they are deeply uncomfortable in the world of the Aen Seidhe. Like an annoying itch you can never scratch, or an ill-fitting suit you can never take off in an awkward gala that you can never leave. For a being as old and powerful as the Unseen Elder, that is simply not worth all the trouble. Besides his role as basically the alarm for the portal's opening, he both hates it here and misses his home deeply. That's why he's in that cave and not dominating the entire world. He would rather stay away from all the discomfort and bother of this blasted, forsaken new world than miss the small chance he has to going back home.
I love this I hope they do more with the vampire lore in the future Witcher games especially since the 2nd conjunction of spheres happened in the Witcher 3
It wasn't directly stated but it seems pretty clear he was the unseen elder of the Gharasham tribe only. I thought the lore also implied he was one of several as well. As they are unseen, by the very nature of the term they aren't really interacting much with the rest of the world or even vampires for that matter. He also doesn't need to, he won't die so he'll just sit there until eventually the portal opens again and he can go home. Another thing that was more subtle as well is, generations of even higher vampires have been born, lived, and evolved on the continent, they don't remember or even know the old world at all like the Elder does. While Regis and the others know and respect the elder, he probably doesn't factor in much to their day to day lives and isn't a regular presence. Regis was leery of disturbing him in the first place. Vampire culture has evolved and grown without the unseen elders.
@@moonman726 If I had to wonder, I would think there isn't a first vampire per se, like take vampire the masquerade where Caine is the first. They are a species like every other, I would think there was a group or community of vampires who would be the respective first of that species of vampires, rather than a singular founder. You're also correct we have no idea how old the elder is and how he corresponds to the oldest vampires of his native world. They'd be frighteningly powerful.
Gaunter O'dimm < Geralt, Geralt < Unseen Elder, and yet people think that Gaunter O'dimm would beat the Unseen Elder? That makes no sense. More than likely, The Unseen Elder knows magics that would allow him to resist time magic, have esoteric knowledge of creatures like Gaunter, and belong to the upper echelon of beings that can't be controlled. Can ANYONE actually imagine the Unseen Elder being frozen in time by Gaunter O'dimm as he did to the other vampire? I certainly don't think so.
Hell yeah new vid! I recently discovered your channel and love your in depth coverage of the lore. It’s useful because I discovered the ttrpg and use your videos as a supplement
I think what confuses people is the bruxa in the B&W promotional video. People think that’s Orianna. While that might be Orianna, I think that was supposed to just be a promotional video and not intended to contribute to the game canon.
@@Engine33Truck perhaps, however even in the promotional video, if you pay attention to the dialog between the two you can deduce that she is a higher vampire. in the game's codex, it says that even witchers avoid taking a contract on a higher vampire. in the dialog, she references this in times past...right before geralt says something about times have changed. what is likely is that its just a programming issue, and not a lore issue. its cheaper, quicker, and easier to reuse the models.
I don't remember the final fate of the vampire that was locked in Teshan Mutna chambers, but what if it was him and he stayed in that cave doing nothing beside what you said to not experience that lockdown ever again?
I don’t know if Ruler is the right term, he doesn’t seem happy to see Detlaf 😂. Arbiter maybe or Judge. But if the portal does open and they can go home I imagine there would be many sudden kidnappings to take people with them since humans don’t exist where they’re from.
I'm not convinced yet that Orianna is actually a Bruxa. I know she shows up that way in the B&W trailer, but that wouldn't be the first time CDPR had inconsistent vampire lore. For example the vampire underneath Novigrad, whose picture is literally in the Bestiary next to "higher vampire", has the appearance of a regular old Katakan and can be killed by Geralt without the aid of another vampire. Overall I think it makes the most sense to assume Orianna is the same type of higher vampire as Detlaff and Regis until we have some kind of ironclad confirmation.
It was very interesting! I'm mastering a the witcher ttrpg campaign with a vampire looking to recreate a conjunction of the spheres so they can go home. The Pjs will have the choice to stop him or not. If he lets him, the vampires will leave this world but other monsters will arrive. If he prevents the new conjunction, the vampires will try to take over the continent to use the people as livestock as described in the book of human trafficking by the campires in the witcher 3. Thanks you for yours vidéos.
On the question of, if and when the conjunction of the sphers will haben again, a good hint is the hidden vampire quest in Novigrad. You know: Vampire: "Is it 1485 yet" Gerald: "No" Vampire:"Then ffffuck off!"
We get snippets of Vampire society from the letters you find in Teshem Mutna that shows how alien the Vampires are to humans. I don't think he's a ruler, because that is the logical conclusion we draw because of how we view hierarchies. His role could be that of a mentor, or an elder sibling, or an arbiter. He whispers to the other Vampires about patience. He could be a figure that simply keeps order. What do Vampires actually value? It almost seems to me they want peace and quiet. They are immortal so you can't punish them with death. Geralt makes the Elder stand down by telling him that the humans can knock on his door forever and so he would never have peace. So I believe the Unseen Elder isn't so much a leader as he is a sentinel. Waiting for the moment they can return home. And encouraging his lower siblings not to go nuts and reveal the way home. He may not adjudicate punishment. But his mere presence might just be enough to make the others think twice because they are instinctively subservient towards him because he is the eldest.
Toussaint is probably the safest place to live for your average citizen but it's definitely the creepiest imo because knowing he's there not to far from the city😬
Well one thing is clear, This Unseen Elder Really doesn't like Isekai!!! Also it's interesting that he has that embedded Tattoo style on his body instead of it healing. Something that I liked about this Elder is that he doesn't seem bothered by Physics. It's almost like they made the Vampires Kind
Great video! Love your breakdown on such a cool character. I like to think he is simply above, what to him will be the petty politics of the vampires beneath him. It is why he appears I guess more savage than the others - they are trying to fit in with society whereas he does not care. Not sure whether there are others who equal his power in the vampire ranks - perhaps other elders? But yes from the vampires we see in game he appears to be by far the most powerful!
Haven’t seen a video from you in a little while, glad you popped up in my “new to you” page! Also, I love the “hmm…vampires?” line from Regis 😂😂. He’s rarely so bluntly sarcastic that it still gets me every time
"He rode around the world, following the sun on his impossible steed and never leaving its light. The Hunters would leave him honey and wine, which he would take each day as he rode past, his skin bare to the Holy Star. For one year he lived this way, for one year he rode unceasingly. When at last he stopped, it was before that elder thing in the east, that maw they called 'Asnan alShaytan. He came bare, without armor and weapons, save a branch of dried Olive wood he had taken at the start of his Hunt. His humility was met with arrogance, the pride of a thing beholden to Darkness. But when it's fangs descended into him, it tasted not blood, but Light. When its claws struck him, the rider bled radiance, and the beast could not abide the touch of it. Unmade, teeth molten, hands alight, the thing at last felt the fear it had so reaped, as the Branch was Driven through its heart, ending its unlife. Some say the Rider died there, some say he escaped. Others say he rides still to this day, astride his impossible horse, hunting now in the night in place of upon the light. Such is the nature of history. Such is the way of the Hunt."
@@GnosisZX Been a while since I've played the game but I'm pretty sure it's said/implied that the Unseen Elders don't bother disguising themselves. Then again, they wouldn't need to if they all prefer to live in complete solitude.
Why do you think Orianna is the one with a key to his cave? It doesn't make much sense to me. The game lore clearly states the distinction between Bruxae and Higher Vampires. Wouldn't Detlaff be more likely to have a key considering they are from the same race? I always thought Bruxae were a cousin species to Higher Vampires. So would the Elder Race of vampires be another cousin species?
That’s why I personally believe that Orianna has to be a higher vampire. It doesn’t make sense that the Unseen Elder would entrust her, a bruxa that can be killed by mortals, with the only known key to his lair. I personally think the Night to Remember video has to be just a promotional video and not actually intended to be part of the game canon. Regis almost tells Geralt what Orianna is, but Geralt cuts him off with “I know”. I think the devs did that to not create a continuity error.
If you mean “take care” by sending him home, yes. If you mean defeat him, doubt it. I doubt anything in the Witcher world aside from Gaunter could defeat the Unseen Elder.
we can use it during a conjunction-like event as the way to use it for The Witcher 4 storyline making new monsters, as well as old monsters stronger and different types.
I know it’s silly, but I wish he was voiced by Bill Nighy since he makes me think of Victor from the Underworld series. Except he can shapeshift like Marcus. Still an interesting character though.
I’d rather see a discussion of his function in the story than speculation about his in world lore. He functions to ground the narrative. One of the great successes of the Witcher in terms of storytelling is that there are forces larger and stronger than the protagonist. Gerald can fell mighty monsters and alter the course of history but within limits. The world doesn’t solely exist for him to perform actions in. The narrative function of the elder is more interesting than any specific lore about him.
I really would love for the next witcher game to have all of the schools and their witchers alive and plenty more monsters where you can actually visit other schools and meet other witchers like imagine you and another witcher take the same contract and end up fighting over who gets to slay the monster for the reward or whatever idk just an idea I had after I just finished witcher 3 for the 5th time these games are so amazing to me.
The point to very old vamps is that they are so alien to everything known to the denizen of the world, they are the embodiment of everything unknown creeping in the dark. We know they went very wild with the populace during their arrival years, blood flowed until they got their urges back under control. They still mostly consider mortals as cattle, but possibly viewed their blood frenzy as something shameful, like an animal behavior they aren't supposed to have, maybe explaining the refinement with which they go at it now, with parties and wine. Kinda mirrors the stories about colonists and the new world IRL, where old world sailors sometimes let go of their urges on the natives with atrocities that would never have crossed their minds on the old continent, before 'civilization' caught up and brought back law and order.
I for one think, were the cave portal to open again, the majority of the higher vampires(at least) would leave and never return assuming it is even possible to leave. There is a conversation Geralt has with Regis where Regis explains how immensely uncomfortable being in this world is. Most likely the portal would only be open for a short while, which would make any type of incursion/ invasion of the world highly impractical. Additionally, Geralt brings up the fact that the conjunction was just as much a cataclysm for the higher vampires as it was for everyone/everything else that came through from other worlds, there are a lot of unknowns about the opening(s) between worlds that brought the vampires(and all others). I find it unlikely anyone of them could just step through, like when we went to other worlds with Avallach. If the portal were to open up again I think the unseen elder would simply mad dash the opening and just hope he could somehow end up/find a way back to where they came from. He may spare a moment to let the rest of his kind know about the opening, but that would be the extent of it. It really fascinates me, the way I picture it happening, the conjunction I mean. Is that the vampires were having a normal time in their world, whatever that is for them, and then boom strange weather/gravitational effects start happening and before anyone can react or even know whats going on they are suddenly inexplicably elsewhere. In the vampires case in a cave in Toussaint. It would be incredibly interesting to know what the moments leading up to( and at the time of) the conjunction was like for those effected.
consider the only argument that work with this elder is about the location getting disturbed it even make him panicked when Geralt talk about the place gets destroyed. we know his priority on this matter if Geralt flat out tell him Dettlaff has to die he is still ok with it he just dont want to do the killing himself. also i am sur if the game allow the option he would agree to just give Dettlaff a order to leave this land or whatever to stop this whole thing to have his peace right away and for the future. clearly this elder takes the idea of just camp and wait at the gate for any and all moment very seriously. Regis said this elder is anti social but i think he just really have to focus for this to work if he sense anything about the portal open at all he ll make his move so he has to block all the other thing out to focus he might believes the gate open can happen anytime which is why at one point he comment about talking with Geralt is wasting his time even if they bearly talked and he basicly has all the time in the world for enternity as a elder vampire but if he believes any moment he isnt focused on the portal opening he might miss it doing anything but that is a wast of his time.
@@0neWhoKnocks it sound dumb but his way of just spawn camping the gate. is the smartest . if the gate opens randomly he ll be the first to go back if other vampire clan find a way to reopen the gate or something they will end up go back to the gate and he ll be there so its win win for him
One interesting thing to consider is, at the end of the game, a forced Conjunction is occuring. It never gets into how locallized it is (that I recall). It's possible that the Unseen Master's vigil is over. That being said, it's up in the air how things get accomplished, so this is obviously taken with a grain of salt.
Something to remember is the base game (Wild Hunt arc) and that forced second Conjunction takes place in 1272. The Blood & Wine expansion takes place in 1275. So it appears that the forced Conjunction was localized to Skellige, if not wholly to Undvik. Either way, doesn’t appear to have affected Toussaint.
He’d smoke Geralt though. Geralt barely survives fighting Detlaf. I think it’s best to not have him as a boss, it reinforces how powerful and scary he is.
I don't see another Conjunction happening in such a way where all vampires can go back. I'm pretty sure the Conjunction is supposed to be at least vaguely cyclical, so it DOES supposedly happen every 300 years or whatever. (I'm not much of a lore guy so I may be misremembering) But from my understanding, it's usually only 2 "spheres" or worlds? The last one, the one that mainly caused the need for Witchers, was supposedly way more than usual? Several overlapping worlds? I think it could be REALLY interesting to get a "standard Conjunction" where just 1 world overlaps and introduces new creatures. (Perhaps something not from Polish folklore? Could be cool if they grab something from like Celtic folklore or something?) But I don't see it being the "vampires can go home" kind. And even IF SOME CAN at some point, no way they all do. Probably some leave... maybe a tear-jerking goodbye to Regis? And some more come over. Too curious for their own good. But that's IF it's a vampire-related Conjunction anyway. Odds are it wouldn't be, right? If it's usually only one world at a time overlapping with the main Witcher world? Got like 8 other KNOWN worlds it could be, and probably at least a dozen unknown ones lol. But whatever they do with it, IF they even have a Conjunction DURING a game, or between games, even (though it would be way cooler if we're like doing the main plot, then SUDDENLY A PORTAL OPENS and we're now dealing with a Conjunction. Ideally, in the middle of a battle in a war. To really throw things sideways. Have a bit of foreshadowing like the Sorceresses Lodge being like, "Our magical instruments are acting weird. Ingredients known to make specific potions are suddenly producing different ones. We need to investigate." But that's basically the last we hear about it... we pretty much forget about it... then BWOOMPH! Suddenly monsters are attacking both sides of this war. Yen or someone appears and goes, "We figured it out too late! It's a Conjunction!" and probably portals out the main character (likely Ciri, imo) and we actually see the ENTIRE LODGE STRUGGLING to ensure Yen was able to get Ciri out of there. And basically the entire game just shifts. Could honestly be like God Of War level EPIC, imo. Just flip the whole world upside down, basically.
I expect another conjunction of spheres where new creatures will return and any humans who survived along with human hybrids of sorts will come through. I think humans also when to where the creatures came from elves and others as well.
It’s stated that theres more than one unseen elder, it’s just this one is more… unstable. As for his power, Geralt, the best witcher out there… can’t even react to the elder moving. It’s crazy. I do think in witcher 4 there could be another conjunction.
Forgive me if you've already answered this... but why didn't he go back home when Ciri began the Conjunction again at the Tower of the Swallow? Is it a plot hole or am I misunderstanding what happened with Ciri?
He might be the oldest and strongest but to me it sounds like he is a century like he was ordered to stay there and keep guard by someone higher or with more authority than him
I wonder why there is a clan of vampires on the south(Van Moorlahems) when in the witcher 3 lore it says that the clans went east and west. Im talking about the cards from Gwent which might tie in to the lore in a future title.
O dimm while far more powerful than the unseen elder has rules even he must follow and certain code of ethics Geralt can exploit Unseen elder has none of these
This dude is a true bad ass- I love taking his route in the game and meeting him-I really hate that u can only get the bad ending though doing it-It is far better than dealing w/the 3 little pigs in fantasy land and is more real/true to the game!!!!!
Agreed. The Unseen Elder is far cooler than Land of a Thousand Fables, and the Hen Gaidth armor is way cooler (and better) than the Toussaint armor you get in fairytale land. It’d be more in line with how the Witcher world is to go the route of the Unseen and get the good ending, go to the cheery looking fairytale land and get the bad ending
@@Engine33Truck Not to mention the immersion-Going to the land of a thousand fables just kills the immersion -stick a dagger in it kills I mean!! The unseen Elder route should have been the ONLY way!!! I just hate Anna dies but I can't pass him up to save her-Ticks me off
Dude if only it wasn't leading to a bad ending its such a good choice to go through because it shows limitations to a witcher and that there are really powerful things in the world.
It would've been pretty epic, if being bitten by an Elder had turned Geralt into a Higher Vampire with god-like powers, but in the Witcher universe, vampirism doesn't work that way. Higher vampires aren't made, they are born.
Ciri would be capable of bringing all vampires back to their home world, so if she became a witcher she probably would do that to solve the vampire problem
The Unseen Elder is great and terrible because he’s untouchable by conventional weapons and unlike G.O.D. He isn’t just Lucifer so he isn’t disarmed by faith-driven defiance.
Not sure we can definitively say Geralt would lose to the Unseen Elder because cutscene footage underestimates our power. I beat Dettlaff in 2 minutes on Death March with my Aard build. I'd like a shot at the Elder.
No offense, but Geralt couldn't even keep up with the Unseen Elder at the speed he was moving while they were talking, what makes you think there's going to be a fight? And if his physical power is already too overwhelming, imagine the magical powers he must possess (it will make your aard build look like a loud fart)
There's a cut scene where you piss the elder off with the wrong dialogue choices and he instantly kills you, in like 0.02 seconds or less. Geralt is no match
He’s so terrifying purely because he has arguable the power to do anything he chooses & literally hides away from the world in a cave waiting for a scent of home… that is a truly scary mindset.
Exactly! I really like this analysis
if he revealed himself to the world he would never have peace because like geralt said every errant knight, adventurer, bounty hunter, etc. would be after him seeking the glory and fame slaying him would bring but he's so damn powerful that he could kill all his pursuers but their hunt would never end and as such he would never have the peace he wants while he waits for the door to his world to open
Sigma vampire GRINDSET
Gigachad mindset
Exactly he's so powerful that enslaving the world above would be boring to him
If memory serves me right he can summon other vampires, so I believe his most important purpose would be to summon all vampires to the cave when the portal reopens...

“Elder” vampires are also exclusive to the games, so that might explain why there are no witcher records on them - a bit of literary inconsistency
Honestly this guy is one of the main things i am excited for the remake for. I really hope that we get a proper encounter with him and get to fight. I doubt we will but he is one of those creatures that I just really wish we could!
Perhaps it's just that witchers who see these vampires never live to tell the tale... their remains never found.

@goochipoochie Yes, that's exactly what I meant by "ending" because this is all part of the Blood & Wine story. I don't mean the main game.
That would make a 2nd playthrough more entertaining, with more things to be found.
@@goochipoochie 🙄
If the Elder truly knows what their home is like, I’d say he came over in the Conjunction
Regis and Detlaff are older than the conjunction so my guess is that the elder might be aroun 5-15K years old.
@@TheSUGA1202 Yeah you´re right. The Elder has already been old af when he got into the Witcher world.
Me at the beginning of the video while The Mandragora was playing:🕺🕺🕺
I was under the impression the Unseen Elder was there in case the portal to their world opens again, he's making sure to be there if it happens and making sure that no uninvited guests show up to their world.
Witcher 4 has got to be about a war with the Vampires. There is no way Nilfguaard can allow what happened in Blood and Wine to go unchallenged.
That is a very good point, best theory ive heard thus far
Regis does state at the end campfire though that "Nilfguaard doesn't even believe in vampires," but I guess that would change after the events that occurred previously.
Nah
@engineer gaming dang that is sad then that not even ciri can lol
Yes ciri can travel to the university of Oxenford and many others.
Universities? Like a college? Yale, Columbia etc...?
Gaunter O Dim scares me more as he could be literally anywhere and he's even more powerful in how he can alter the world around him.
The point I find mostly the most intriguing about the Elder Vampire is his weird barbed shaped necklace with a clan effigy as pendant. Also his tattoos/scars are weird too. i don't know if CD Projekt thought for any particular meaning about these points but well... kinda intriguing though
Its a wholesale rip off of Marcus from Underworld. Bethesda ripped it off also.
Quite the compliment.
Witcher George - welcome back.
Witcher 4 is coming lol
I like this theory of the Elder being a beacon for his respective tribe of vampires. I buy it.

The Unseen Elder would be the kind of end boss required for a Ciri-led Witcher game. Just like what I think about Gaunter O’Dimm. Complete OP characters that simply could not be fought without an OP player character.
Geralt isn't OP???
@@ragingpirate5727 OP among humans and non-humans. He can't even 1v1 Vilgefortz.
This is by far the most scary thing I encountered in this game I died like 3 times just trying to answer his questions right
My guess is he was chosen by other vampires from his home world, who voted for him to checkout the portal when it opened, unknowingly getting stuck in this world.
Makes you wonder who the first Vampire was and if the Elders already have this kind of power, he would be unstoppable
Just wanted to say - I absolutely love how you pronounce all the exotic names and words in elder speech
Hell yeah new vid! I recently discovered your channel and love your in depth coverage of the lore. It’s useful because I discovered the ttrpg and use your videos as a supplement
oriana is a higher vampire, this is confirmed several times during the B&W story.
IMO vampires in The Witcher are the best of any fantasy universe. They’re truly as terrifying as they’re meant to be in stories.
A little to powerful though
It’s great to have a new video. I’ve watcher every single video and love your work 😊❤
It was very interesting!
You know:
Vampire: "Is it 1485 yet"
Gerald: "No"
Vampire:"Then ffffuck off!"
His secret purpose is to literally cut off the conversation
He's been alive so long that this time he's spent in the world is still just a blink.

Such is the way of the Hunt."
after you leave the cave with regis there is a dialoge option that implies that there are more elders in the witcher world
Perhaps one of em is living a great in disguise among the human unlike his cave dwelling brother
@@GnosisZX Been a while since I've played the game but I'm pretty sure it's said/implied that the Unseen Elders don't bother disguising themselves. Then again, they wouldn't need to if they all prefer to live in complete solitude.
Can you do a lore video about sorel degerlund or the rissberg castle in general?

A witcher game based around the vampires would be cool but i do not know if they are big enough in Witcher lore to fill an entire game.
we can use it during a conjunction-like event as the way to use it for The Witcher 4 storyline making new monsters, as well as old monsters stronger and different types.
I know it’s silly, but I wish he was voiced by Bill Nighy since he makes me think of Victor from the Underworld series. Except he can shapeshift like Marcus. Still an interesting character though.
5 more days baby then like my 5th or 6th play through of my favourite game of all time
I’d rather see a discussion of his function in the story than speculation about his in world lore.

I think Geralt should have gotten Ciri to open a portal to their home world. Convinced the Elder to force all vamipres to go home
Regis said this elder is anti social but i think he just really have to focus for this to work if he sense anything about the portal open at all he ll make his move so he has to block all the other thing out to focus
he might believes the gate open can happen anytime which is why at one point he comment about talking with Geralt is wasting his time even if they bearly talked and he basicly has all the time in the world for enternity as a elder vampire but if he believes any moment he isnt focused on the portal opening he might miss it doing anything but that is a wast of his time.
@@reves3333 I hadn't thought of it like that, but it totally makes sense. Thanks for the insight!
@@0neWhoKnocks it sound dumb but his way of just spawn camping the gate. is the smartest . if the gate opens randomly he ll be the first to go back
if other vampire clan find a way to reopen the gate or something they will end up go back to the gate and he ll be there so its win win for him
Noticing that his necklace is the same symbol you see above the clan symbols in his cave.
@@Engine33Truck Too true. Good catch!
HES BACK!
I do wish they could have made him an ultra secret optional boss.
I do recall Regis saying there were other unseen elders however so i doubt hes the leader of all
I expect another conjunction of spheres where new creatures will return and any humans who survived along with human hybrids of sorts will come through.
'Lac Celavy' 🤌🤙
Forgive me if you've already answered this... but why didn't he go back home when Ciri began the Conjunction again at the Tower of the Swallow?
Is it a plot hole or am I misunderstanding what happened with Ciri?
Hey if cyberpunk V had the right cybernetics do you think we could take on the Elder vampire
Gaunter O'Dimm can just freeze time and put a spoon through his head LMAO
That would be unpleasant for the elder, but certainly not lethal
He might be the oldest and strongest but to me it sounds like he is a century like he was ordered to stay there and keep guard by someone higher or with more authority than him
I wonder why there is a clan of vampires on the south(Van Moorlahems) when in the witcher 3 lore it says that the clans went east and west. Im talking about the cards from Gwent which might tie in to the lore in a future title.
the fact that geralt didn't even attempt to fight this guy and quickly gave up speaks volumes, I mean this is after he squared off with gaunter o'dimm
O dimm while far more powerful than the unseen elder has rules even he must follow and certain code of ethics Geralt can exploit
Unseen elder has none of these
Quick question. How do higher vampires get made? Does biting a human do it or is it something else?
They are just a specie like an other (even if they are op), and they can't turn peoples into vampires.
In Witcher 3, the first video already says everyone suspects a second conjunction of spheres, so..
yo george what is your steel sword??
I just hate Anna dies but I can't pass him up to save her-Ticks me off
Maybe, in a future game, Geralt has to help him get home?
6:10 well, he wouldn't kill other vampires. Probably. Since that's their nr.1 rule.
Dude if only it wasn't leading to a bad ending its such a good choice to go through because it shows limitations to a witcher and that there are really powerful things in the world.
BRO WITCHER GEORGE?! I THOUGHT I'D NEVER SEE HIM AGAIN!
It would've been pretty epic, if being bitten by an Elder had turned Geralt into a Higher Vampire with god-like powers, but in the Witcher universe, vampirism doesn't work that way. Higher vampires aren't made, they are born.
But can he kill other vampires as I recall vampires aren't allowed kill each other or they are punished would this rule not apply to the elder too?
I was so annoyed, I downed a superior black blood just before this scene and I was annoyed to find that he didn't get revolted by the taste.
We missed an incredible boss fight here, even if it would be an inevitable loss.
Possibly in the next game it will definitely open eventually
*OMFG*
Turn CC on when the Unseen Elder first starts speaking. The YT translation is a literal LOL.
Higher Vampires in this setting are absolutely horrifying!!
Regis is such a great character✌️😁
If not because of the gate he guarding, he can single handedly terrorize the whole kingdom.
Didnt regis mention, that there are other elders, eventually more reasonable than the one we see in tw3?
Ciri would be capable of bringing all vampires back to their home world, so if she became a witcher she probably would do that to solve the vampire problem
The Unseen Elder is great and terrible because he’s untouchable by conventional weapons and unlike G.O.D. He isn’t just Lucifer so he isn’t disarmed by faith-driven defiance.
I know the trailer portrait orianna as a bruxa but is she? The only person with the "key" to the unseen Elder a Bruxa? That's eating me lol
