I used to go out there all the time. Last time I was out there I noticed that there were a good many of the trails were closed off. You can also get to 4 peaks from there. My jeep is actually going in for some major upgrades and will more then likely head out there once its done just to test some things out. Cool area. I know it well but I can tell you that you can still get lost out there in the dark. The rolls area is pretty big.

Tons of trails out there. The couple that head to the coves are the most popular for sure. The gate at Butcher Jones is now closed so that has cut down on some of the traffic.

@@Trail89Adventures Good to know about the Butcher Jones gate. That was my usual point on entry. I also go in from Four Peaks. Various points of access there. I was out there with the Ol lady and our dog when the peaks got some snow and wanted to go up to the top. All closed off. Not sure if anything has opened back up just yet. Though considering summer is here they usually close off many spots anyway.
      Happy Jeeping out there.

Heads up out there in the Rolls! Lots of Dirt bikes use that area, and can really be flying through those washes and trails. And whatever you do! Don’t stop and hangout on the other side of a hill you can’t see over! Dirt bikes and quads coming towards you can’t see you sitting in the trail, I know this personally! Come ripping down trail 13 years ago and some family is on the blind side of a hill and I can’t see them. There is a small jump on the top of that said hill and I come flying over it, just to meet a jeep sitting in the trail. Luckily I got on the binders fast and hard enough to stop right up to their bumper. Had they been moving, I’m sure I would have seen their dust trail and knew someone was coming towards me. I always look way ahead for any signs of a dust trail I can read, and possibly know something is coming.
So just keep your eyes and your ears wild open for bikes and quads. And occasionally you’ll come across someone going Balls out down the washes in 4x4 pickups.
The Rolls is really fun at night to go wheeling. I have a jeep also, and love wheeling or riding a dirt bike at night out there.

Absolutely agree with that. Always be looking for the dust trails!

Wow this is nice, I think I like it better than Four Peaks. I want to hit this with my Tacoma and wanted to see a video. Did you enjoy it compared to the other AZ trails?

There are a ton of trails back in this area. More aggressive than Four Peaks. You can also access the coves on the backside of Saguaro Lake. I have a couple of videos posted showing this area. It is technically called “The Rolls.”

Does entering this area or any part of the national forest require a pass or permit. Thanks, Boss!

This area is technically called “The Rolls.” It is in Tonto National Forest and at this time does not require a permit. They are considering making this a permit area in the future.
It you go to the Butcher Jones day use area (beach area) which is very near to this, it does require a Tonto pass.

The lights are Nilight. Got them on Amazon. They are cheap and nothing special but get the job done for what I need.

      South East Gilbert. Almost QC.
I run GMRS in my Jeep.
Lights are pretty easy to install especially if you have the 4 switches.
Probably going out Saturday morning to scout some trails South of San Tan Valley

The rangers laughed, basically saying never when asked if that gate would open again. Trailers clogging the overflow parking and people bypassing the to to pass requirements by parking past the gate were the reasons I believe.

    • @Trail89Adventures
      @Trail89Adventures  ปีที่แล้ว

Definitely can see that being the reason. I think it has been closed for over two years now. Thanks for watching.
