I always noticed how the live-action movie from the 90s and american cartoon show was seemingly trying to make the Street Fighters like some team force going against the Shadoloo comparable to G.I. Joe and Cobra, and the commercial for the figures outright just has Guile having "G.I. Joe" on his vest to hammer in that was exactly how they saw it.

For anyone wondering what the hell was going on with that ad, it starred the late great Rik Mayall, an anarchic UK comedian famous for comedy TV series like Bottom, The Young Ones, and Man Down. He was also Flasheart in Blackadder.
Nintendo wanted their UK ads to be a bit more edgy to compete with Sega, so they paid a very hefty sum to Rik, who was famously utterly mental, to make them. Apparently he bought a very nice house with the money.

Well, technically Street Fighter 2 Turbo had 2 versions seperated into 2 modes at the main menu. There was the Turbo mode, which was based on Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting and Normal Mode which was based on Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition. Sega pretty much did the same with their special champion edition, but we get to that next month. :P

Honestly, the entire version history is far more complicated (and different) that he suggests.

    • @Dekomata

Here's something interesting: Nigel Mansell's world championship had a romhack, back in the day, in Brazil called Ayrton Senna Racing. It's the same game, pretty much, but they add Senna's face during practice mode and... There's a song that plays during racing! So it's a better game, much like how Senna was a better pilot.

So many versions of Street Fighter 2, and I only had the original!
Maybe it's strange, but in my mind, being able to play as one of the four bosses still feels weird.

Ohhhh StarTrek next gen for gameboy!!! I had that! it's a really cool sim if you know what you are doing. The control are clunky but you get used to it. basically you get a quest from picard and to just do what he told you. Like go to planet A to pick up an ambassador and drop him off to planet B. So you warp there, go into orbit, beam the dude, warp to the next planet, maybe fight 1 or 2 ship, orbit the planet, beam down the dude. so the game is a bunch a small mission like that.

That British Nigel Mansell ad was fantastic. For those who are curious, the main person in that ad is Rick Mayall, a well known British actor/comedian.

I really wish that Capcom would have included Final Fight 2 and 3 on one or the other Capcom Classics Collection disks for PS2. Almost all of the games were arcade games but the first CCC disk did include Super Ghouls N' Ghosts, another game that debuted on the SNES.

Splatterhouse is such an iconic game.
I’ve only ever played the first one, once or twice,
But they are an absolute treat to see in action, graphically.
Probably an unpopular opinion. But i think its one of the best games sega had to offer.
Sonic is alright…. But SPLATTERHOUSE?! That stuff scratches my horror and heavy metal itch.
One game I’d love to see a movie adaptation of.
Just a guy in a mask going berserk, fighting against grotesque creatures in an attempt to save his wife and son.

In the movie Wreck-it Ralph the first character to mention "going turbo" was M. Bison of Street Fighter fame. While I can't confirm this, I think that was a nod to the fact that Street Fighter 2: Turbo was the first game in the series to allow playing as the villains.

Hey, another game I had; Virtual Pinball. I think there's a 'story mode' or at least, a level progression. Always got stuck on A -Maze-ing. A pinball maze.
Really enjoyed the limited pinball creator, too. Just like Little Big Planet, it's very easy to max out the stuff you can put in.

I love the running gag in High School Girl, which takes place in the early 90’s, where every time a new version of Street Fighter II comes out the characters all ask “Where’s Street Fighter III?”
Next month if Plok! Month! Don’t let him be diddled again!

Ken's face in that edition of Nintendo Power makes him look like he glimpsed what's been happening down in the Dungeons of Fear & Hunger. He's gonna need a lotta beer to forget how heavily the Guards are packing.
Also, was that Rik Mayall hamming it up in a racing game advert? This is why people miss the 90s.
