Dragon's Dogma 1 aligned at the worst time after when Skyrim came out. This game is really at the best place to come out for being thee game to come out for its genre this year. @@paulmccarter908 Regularly goes down to like 5 dollars on steam and the uncapped FPS is pretty great on it, even on my OLD setup (nvidia 1070) i pump out like 130+ fps consistently it's really smooth
Yeah, 2024 is shaping up to be a stacked year but it's not releasing with another heavy hitter that targets the specific audience DD2 is setting out to target if that makes sense which I think can greatly work in it's interest
@@MyDearGhoul I agree. What was big back then doesn't change that Skyrim popped off and overshadowed dd1. It got game of the year. It's just how it is. Never said dd1 was bad. I actually enjoyed it a lot on ps3 when back then. Skyrim got a crazy good community though and with modding is still today's most modded game. Skyrim was actually why I wanted a pc so I could mod it.
I dont think its all about player agencie. I think it more about giving the players what they want instead of forcing your beliefs and then trashing the consumer base when they disagree.
I would like to comment that the testing on console was done while the game was set to max 4k resolution, a resolution most would be willing to dip down.
Only thing Bethesda still has going on for them is their games modding capability (which the game engine has already shown its age and limitations). Every other aspects of their game have been surpassed by others. Other studios have grown pass the Skyrim era and achieved more while Bethesda still remains the same. After Starfield I can safely say TES6 will be just like Skyrim with different look.
im 24 and been a gamer since like i was 11, i never played the dragons dogma series, not because i dont like it but i never heard about it!! i already pre ordered dd2 and im very very excited it looks absolutely awesome! i wish i had played dd1 back then idk if i can play it now after im used to newer graphics as the look of the games i play are important to me... anyway dd2 looks like it will satisfy my gamer needs
I've been playing DD1 on PC and while yeah the fidelity is a bit dated, I think their use of lighting and art overall makes for a pretty scene as well and I've been thoroughly enjoying the game, DD2 in a lot of ways looks to be taking what 1 did well and largely expanding on it and leaning into it's strengths which is promising imo
I think we have been getting some amazing games lately as I talked about in this vid but that list isn't all inclusive, and I think 2024 is shaping up to be a killer year but DD2 has a LOT of potential as well to stand out amongst all of that imo. Hope you enjoy it babayaga!
because I treated my first Elden Ring playthrough like it was a giant meme (waterfowl still killed tbf) which is why I'm going back to it with a fresh character lol
Watching all these videos fighting big monsters I am noticing that our hits to them do little damage!!! It’s gonna take forever to beat these encounters
Ehh, I find these "do whatever whenever" games really boring. I prefer game developers making focused experiences that I will never forget rather than games like Dragon's Dogma, Hitman, or whatever. Games like Resident Evil 4, Uncharted 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, DMC5, The Last of Us, RE2R, Dead Space Remake, etc. stick with you, because they were carefully crafted experiences. Also, I don't find replayability to be the be-all and end-all. The first playthrough is the most important and if that doesn't stick with you then it doesn't matter how replayable the game is. I want games that I finish to stick in my memory and that's how I judge games. I will always remember the opening village section in RE4/RE4R, I will always remember the entire train section in Uncharted 2, I will always remember the Cavaliere Angelo and Vergil boss fights in DMC5, I will always remember the first time you meet clicker in TloU, etc. etc. If things happen randomly then it completely loses that wow factor for me. And another thing is that there needs to be character or compelling story context behind it. The Nero vs Vergil fight hits different when you discover that Vergil is Nero's father + the conversation between Nero and Kyrie helps Nero to build the mental strength to end the family feud once and for all. The Uncharted 2 train section is even better when you know that Nate needs to save Chloe. The 'what' is really important, but the 'why' is what gives those games meaning.
It's not about hand holding. that's a strawman that keeps getting thrown around because of games like Souls games. It's about making a game fun to play with things to do, plain and simple, hands can be held the whole way through, as long as its enjoyable and the systems in place encourage continuing. I appreciate hand holding because gamong time isn't as lengthy as I'd like.
I’d disagree somewhat. I’ve been put off from playing games because the game feels like a linear tutorial even tens of hours into the game. Excessive care to prevent the player from making mistakes can severely limit the feeling of success, at least for me. Whilst there is definitely a point where some games go too far with the lack of guidance, I am under the impression that they are noticeably rarer than games with excessive handholding. Whilst fun is the most important thing, excessive handholding can and does damage the fun significantly for some people, myself included.
I don't buy the time being precious argument. Can we knock that off? If you're an adult and you game your time isn't that precious. Besides RPGs take two plus work weeks as a matter of generality. You're time isn't precious you're just lazy. At least just say it like it is.
Glad you enjoy the content! I'm def excited for the game and I don't recall screaming in this vid but sounds about right for my streams as I get excited LOL
@@JMulls yeah screaming wasnt the right word, but definitely overly excited lol. At exactly minute 9, and the following 30 seconds haha Keep up the good work, i love your commenting🙏
So it's a game that relies on random encounters? A game that is just random encounters is pointless and meaningless. It would be much better if the game had some story with set quests and set experiances, instead of using some algorithm to pick from a list of set encounters that is spawned randomly. These games are based around short term "Oh wow i didn't expect that!" instead of streaching the moments that build up to a real climax through a story. All this is good for is to spice up side quests. Player agency is overrated. Just set a fixed goal with a fixed solution. I hate games with a million different options that are all viable.
It absolutely is and honestly it just slipped my mind, I have my issues with Tears, but it's continued (going from breath) lean into player agency centric mechanics and it's sandbox are it's biggest standouts that make the game unique and enjoyable imo. Whereas I think breath's strengths lie in the openess of the world and that feeling of exploration, Tears' strengths lie in your creativity to tackle whatever the game throws at you imo
@JMulls I totally understand! In many ways it's really BOTW that opened up the model and and a sense of awe I experienced when playing through the first part of the game was amazing. Having said that, though, Dragons Dogma is still probably one of my favorite experiences ever. Can't wait to play DD2. I actually decided not to play FF Rebirth, until after I play DD2, as I felt I wanted a more of an "open" experience not tied to pre-existing characters.
