Dawntrail had the problem that they didn't know where to focus their story. Yoshi-P did indeed say that for this expansion they just threw a bunch of stuff to the wall and see what sticks, same thing they did with ARR. ARR plot was so disconnected until we got to meet Cid, before that it was about going around doing random objectives until we eventually got to fight a primal to save the region. I think the game deserves this period of non-important story, where they instead focus on the gameplay side of things.

Well it's on Square if they want the game to succeed they have to stop switching where they put resources and just put more resources into everything. They did a good story in SHB and EW they should have kept the same maturity but instead we get a dumbed down rehash of EW and SB we go around with a character and they take credit for all the hard work our character is doing and because we help them they become a leader, why is our character still a grunt? and I mean it's not like our chara should be a queen or king or anything but we are always the one doing minial tasks time and time again. After we saved the star there is no way we should be some unknown adventurer even if they don't know us it should be known that this character defeated Zodiark this character stopped the final days this character defeated primals, wrestled with ancients this and that. It's happened 3 times already 1st Alphino then Lyse and now Wuk Idk. why not show her doing these things on her own and we just explore the area and guard her swhen she is done with her tasks? why are we out in the field working with her and finding out that she does not know her own people? Idk I won't touch WOW the game is too old and has too much going on xD

Dawntrail was the first time I’ve ever doubted the writing in this game. It was like a wake up call for me to realize that this is what people must have felt for Stormblood MSQ.

I think I'll go with FF16. I'm in the mood for an action game with RPG story.

FFXIV is improved because of the story, the story is worsened because it's in FFXIV. What I mean is that they aren't utilizing the fact that it's a game. The story would be better if it was a series or a book. Right now it's just a visual novel that happens to be inside a game.

Man, they just pretend Arkham Origins doesn't exist, lol. It's actually pretty good. Yeah, it's not nearly as good as City, but I enjoyed it more than Knight. I hated the Batmobile in Knight and that really brings the game down for me.

I liked your video and enjoyed it. I think it's funny though because I fully disagree with you regarding Dawntrail's two halves. I thought the first half was great, with a very MMO-story where you get a lot of word building, lore with a common thread that pushes you forward. It makes you feel part of a world lived in, you are a part of. While the second half is a typical sci-fi fantasy story of little impact to the main world, totally detached from the world we have been growing in since ARR, and honestly just pounding the same themes we have seen countless time at this point. The last two zones just serve the story and do not build the world of FFXIV on the long term and I couldn't care less about these.

Honestly i feel like the the two expansions that should be compared are Dragonflight and Dawntrail. Both are expansions that came after their 'Saga' story endes. Both of these expansions serve as a bridge to what comes next. They are the intermission expansions before setting off on a new journey. TWW is the beginning of a trilogy, and already has its conclusion set. Whereas Dawntrail is an expansion about meandering in a new location, and after the main 7.0 MSQ, have finally obtaines a mcguffin to set us on a new path.

Look at the last three expansions and see their cadence for releases and what is released. 7 trials 1, 3, 5, 7, 10 dungeon during launch 1 extra dungeon per patch. A raid lockout that overstays its welcome. Ultimates. The only risk I've seen them them take was Variant. But even then. Its a dungeon experience with meager rewards not worth the difficulty.Rel-releasing an old raid that no one likes (forced df roulette) is not a risk. An exploration zone is not a risk. Theyre continuing to continue with mediocrity

Bad writing can be salvaged by a great character. A bad character can ruin good writing. But in wuk lamot's case she's both a bad character in a bad story setting. They had promise, erenville, Krile, or even Koma. But Wuk lamot actively shines a light at the cracks because she is a bad charcter.
