    Hey I just wanted to say thank you for your video. I recently bought an XJ for a daily driver and I had to do some work to it. I couldn’t get the monitors into the ready position for a few days. After watching your video, you mentioned having more than a ½ tank of gas for it to knock off those few monitors. I gassed up and they went off. Thanks again

    Good idea using jackstands instead of trying to drive around and do this.

    My jeep is all wheel drive is it safe to put up on stands and do this. Also can you post the the drive cycle list in description please?!

    Thank you for the video. I have TJ 2004, 4.0 Auto. Had the same issue as you, since I am rebuilding it from salvage. Followed the instructions for O2 sensor, as you did, and it actually works. The sensor is now OK, instead of incomplete.
    One thing that worth noticing is that it worked for me only when I had gas level slightly below 75%. Did not work when it was less than 50%.
    About the speeds that you mentioned that changed based on your gearing - the gearing is in the differential, so should be completely irrelevant for speeds, unless you have changed the speedometer settings to accommodate for larger tires

    This seems more convenient and accurate as opposed to actually driving the car.

    Thanks for posting. I have an '06 2.4 TJ. It's in really nice shape, I got it a year ago from a dealer. Have had no problems, except in the summer when I turned on the AC, CEL came on and the code was related the intake. I swapped in a new air filter and CEL went away on its own, it was never serviced.. I just went to get inspected (NJ), and failed for "readiness", there were no codes and everything else said pass.. I've put close to 10k miles on it in the year that I've had it, and the battery was never disconnected. I'll try this. I hope it works. Thanks again.

    For California :
    1996 to 1999 Gasoline powered vehicles: Any one monitor can be incomplete.
    2000 and newer Gasoline powered vehicles: All monitors, with the exception of the EVAP monitor must be complete.

      I have a 1996 cheep cherokee 4.0 and I can't get the catalyst to complete. Will it still pass the smog here in California?

    • @m1jeep
      @m1jeep 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idris Bakali Unfortunately no. Here in California the only incomplete monitor allowed is the EVAP monitor for 2000+ model years.

      @@techs8660 Yes it will pass if it pass the tail pipe. On 2000 and newer you don't get a tail test but things must be ready.

    Doesn't work for California vehicles as Catalyst and O2 sensors are the only things that everyone has a hard time with with my 2006 magnum, I need all passed. O2 prevents the Catalyst from checking.

    Someone already said it. But O2 sensor heater is easy. You hit the defrost button and it turns on the O2 heater. The other tests are a bit harder to run.

    i have a jeep grand cherokee 2002 and have 2 monitors -o2 sensor and catalytic converter that are on and since Im in new york if one goes off I can get the car to pass the inspection. I drove the car 800 miles and coil block had to be change with spark plugs.
    Now start all over with drive cycle.
    I put in after that 250 more miles.Now I tried your suggestion to try idle 5min shut off for 10 min. and restarted and checked both monitors were still on.
    Tomorrow I will try your other drive cycle 5x up to 30-40 etc as show on this video.
    What else can you help me with this problem ?
    I have to fix by july 30th.

      What messed me up is I had less than a 1/4 tank and it would run the monitors. Off the top of my head I don’t remember how much fuel you need but I would say at least 1/2

    I’ve been having a hard time and I’m already frustrated with this drive cycle all my monitors are ready except for the Cat monitor, It’s got a new cat and new exhaust and already put over 500 miles and nothing! I have a 2000 tj 2.5 any suggestions? Thanks.

    went to take an emissions test and I failed due to monitors on my drive cycle saying "not ready". I needed a tune-up and that's why it was doing that. Well I have a machine that I can test all this on and all week all my monitors have been saying "ready". Well this morning I go to run another test just to ensure I'm going to pass inspection this morning and now all of my monitors are saying "ready"except for my cat. Now I know you're allowed one monitor to say "not ready". however my question is can my cat say "not ready" as long as my other ones are saying "ready" and will I pass that way??? Also why after repairing the car and all my monitors have said "ready" for a week but now on the day I am going to inspection now everything is saying "ready" expect for the cat??? It makes no sense.

    • @MuddyBeards4X4
      @MuddyBeards4X4  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It will still pass with one "not ready" but i know what you are saying about the cat monitor, mine did the same thing. Once you drive it, the cat monitor should run and shut off, probably on your way to the inspection

    Computer controlled cars have been a nuisance since day one. Un my day if the car didn't run right it was either the carb, distributer, or a hole in the exhaust. Very simple. Now they have sensors all over it and many problems still can't be pinpointed. Scam.

    Actually pretty sure he's wrong here. He talks about regearing equating to a different true groundspeed (mph) which is likely irrelevant to the computer/vss system. For smog readiness monitors actual mph wouldn't matter much (besides engine loading, etc.). If the TSB was written for 20 -30 mph drive cycle then operating the vehicle so it "thinks" its going 20-30 mph would be the goal to meet preloaded pcm/ecm criteria. This is even more so if using the jackstand method as there is no "real" mph at all, so he contradicts himself on that point. The engine does not experience the same operating parameters simply spinning tires vs, pushing a vehicle..
    This stuff gets very technical and I appreciate a good video regardless, but pretty much he's wrong...lol
