- First let me list scooter and mods, 2012 CY 150cc TaoTao scooter, Mods include NCY cam, NCY clutch with NCY Ultralight Sliding Torque Cam Driver race mode, NCY Intake, Aftermarket CDI, Advanced timing, Aftermarket exhaust, 325 rear gear, 10 gram sliders, Top speed GPS 61 mph , No BS here take a ride !

Getting my Tao Tao Lancer 150 next month. Can't wait!! I want to do some mods as well. If I could get up to 70 that would be cool.
unless you sink money into getting stuff like a big bore kit and gearing, variator, carb tuning 70mph will not happen on a gy6 150, and for that money might as well get a 250. stock a 150 will go like 55. maybe 60 on one's with larger wheels and that's on perfectly flat ground no road. with carb tuning, exhaust, variator tuning and stuff you can hit 60 and that's not too expensive. just don't expect 70mph on it. (also gy6 speedometer tend to be optimistic, which is why a lot of ppl claim ridiculous speeds, for a true number you gota use a gps)

That's what I did after riding about 2 miles, changed the oil, gear oil, also put that iridium plug in.. Is there a how-to video around that does the big bore kit, gearing, Etc? Seems like most TH-cam vids will mislead you. Mine does about 55 and I really would like it to go faster because of the speed limits around here have me maxing it out just about my entire trip!

I have the GY6 150cc 1P57QMJ engine and mine does stock 65mph (100km/h) and the kerb weight is 140kg. Seems like most of the GY6 engines in USA have the much weaker engine stock and also lower speed Final-gearing. I'm upgrading mine to 190cc this winter and gearing up 30%, larger variator and 28carb.
they are de-tuned here in the states, got that EGR/PAIR emmissions system. i took mine off on both my scooters and even then gained a bit of performance. my 150cc flyscooter is going to get a performance pipe, carb and cam to start with, i changed the coil to a hotter one and put an iridium plug in and noticed a gain.
Strange, because I have a (2016, bone stock, Tao Motors PMX150, and I can hit between 64 and 71 mph on a flat road running basic 93 octane USA gas. I'll film it as soon as my new camera shows up this week.
i had a taotao 50cc bored out to 100cc with every mod i can get, cam, larger valves. intake, ignition, plus 150cc carb, 150 exhaust everything. still couldn't get that shit past 50mph and i'm only 160lbs. now i ride a powermax 150, that thing moves real good, i get up to 70 pretty quickly and its stable. oh and those speedos are always wrong man you werent going any more than maybe 60 at the most lol
not without extensive modifications you dont hit 70 mph. likely you have a chinometer with a very positive attitude.

If you don't change the final gear ratio, you won't get too much speed, that's simple logic.

Benjamin Filbert exactly I turned my adly thunderbike 50 with jog minarelli engine into about 102cc's performance everything machined ported polished and I easily do 90 mph but my scooter only weighs 170 lbs

you better do a tune-up on that 150cc then because my 50cc does 50 mph it has some mods but you should be at least be going 60 mph.
I did the same modifications on a similar 150 (Shenk YY150T-19) and get about the same 62 GPS and 72 Speedo readings. Will a upgraded CDI also make the head lights brighter and more consistent? I definetly recommend changing out the same parts on your 150. Takes if from junk to something fun. I also ended up upgrading the rear suspension because of the higher speeds needed better suspsension. Upgraded to one single shock in the rear, loosing the dual stock set up it came with . That was key.

but it's a 150cc... on my moms 150cc 2008 rocketa w/o ANY mods i go up to 60mph on flats and i'm 220lbs.
They build for China rural and urban commuters. The developers had the roads in China in mind not US-Hwy. They are made so lil Chailing the seamstress could go the 12 miles with 40-55 mph from her little town to the outskirts of the city to work and back. Keep that in mind when you buy a China scooter.
i have a 2020 taotao powermax 150cc moped, out of the box with an oil change it hits 65mph im 145lbs - i waited till about 100miles to start pushing past 35. most roads around where i live are 45mph commuter roads and i can zoom past cars no problem. GPS verified. im waiting to see how itll do with the exhaust swap im planning :)

I love mine. It pulls my 185lb kiester around town without issue. My max speed is probably 50mph checked by my GPS. The scoot thinks it is going 55-60 china miles per hour.
Runs real good, No problems love the little GY6, Not been riding as much as I like to ! How is your running ?
I parked it without draining the carb. Tried to clean it, no cigar. Purchased new carb for $23, and was back in business in one kick with a bit more power as a bonus. It runs fine and has become the beer-run vehicle.

Hi, I have a 50cc gy6 scooter w/10" wheels. 2013 jonway brand, I installed the big bore kit in mine a week or so ago. I added a Race CDI box and replaced carburetor with 88 main jet.
My scooter will only go 38MPH max. Before all mods it was at 33MPH max. I installed the same big bore kit on my dads TAO TAO 50cc and it will do almost 50MPH.
What gives? and ideas? I tried 2 different carburetors.

Just bought my 2016 Tao Tao Quantum Tour 150 a week ago.
I have 144 miles on it and already does 60 MPH. GPS verified.

Cajon Grom Rider I got a 2015 tao tao 49 but I can get it to do like 60 to 65 on speedo and speedo tops out at 50 but goes way past it I need to GPS it and see how fast it is and you should be able to do about 65 to 70 built 50 once broke in so you should Gane like 10 to 15 mph once broke in and mine goes a while hell of alot faster once it has been running for 10 mins or so
Not to be Debbie Downer, but if youre not upgrading brakes arent you creating a human catipult when youre going faster than this moped was designed for and you cant stop as fast as a motorcycle?

It's a 150 not a 50 it is designed to go that fast...with all the mods it should be going faster.
the stock brakes are suprisingly grabby on the front disk, the rear drum does a great job of slowing you down quickly as long as the cable is properly adjusted, however NCY makes great brakes for these scoots.

it is AC, Stator is a easy fix,
Crazy easy. Purchase a stator puller from ebay $10 and its like butter. The stator can only go back on the CORRECT way so you wont loose timing. ONLY ISSUE ->The poles on your stator dont need to be the same, but your hookups need to match. I went from a 11 pole to a 6 and havent missed a beat. Love my GY6
I did all that but the woodruff key popped out without me knowing and of course I couldnt get the timing right. So im just going to get a new 8-pole stator but on my forum, they said I need a 8-pole stator too?. I have a 6-pole. The woodruff key notch got kind of destroyed on the flywheel too.
Dude that sucks. The stator I used has only two holes to re-install. So you can simply flip it to match which-ever side, I also installed the blue racing CDI box $12 so perhaps that is why mine worked. New stator and CDI. I didn't stay stock with my CDI
With the timing. There is a little nipple/beam that goes along the shaft that holds the stator. At least on mine there is one so the stator can only come off and go back on, one way

Yes I agree...unbelievable. You should really record that and put it on TH-cam, it would be an instant hit. 85 kilometers isn't the same as 85 miles per hour.

Yes these mods will work, The biggest speed gain I did was the sliders, 10G Like the red springs in the clutch too !

There is an excellent 50 to 100cc kit install video on TH-cam. He walks you thru it, and makes no assumptions as to viewers skills as a mechanic. Didn't help me with my scooter, 1,500cc Suzuki, but will help with your 50cc.

Forgot: Kit is less than 200 bucks, and includes a muffler, pipes, and more gaskets than needed. Of course the kit includes a head, cylinder, piston, rings, rocker arms, etc, He has few follow up vids as well.

I installed a NCY cam, Did it help yes, The cam added a little more low end power, up to 15 MPH, If I was you I would install a cam next time you are in there like when you are adjusting the valves, I would not tare it down to install a cam as I don't think it helped all that much though, Installing the cam is easy and only takes a few minutes once you are down to the motor, I hope this helps ! Once you get a Big Valve Head, you'll go a lot faster. Add a bigger carb (and tune it), and you'll be a speed demon.

The only way to do a cold intake system is to extend the filter outside of the fairings. Not sure if anyone actually makes an extension but you can just use a PVC pipe and some teflon tape.

Yours goes pretty good, I only manage to 9500 mine wind assisted downhill, Its a 125cc, with Sports muffler, Bigger jets and Altered weights. Giving a modest top end of 48mph. I plan on upping the size tomorrow to a 150cc, Thank you ebay!

Wayne Hall If you don't hammer it and run it in for whatever miles the makers tell you it will go faster it's really tight at only 100 miles and change the oil asap most brands of 150 cc scooters will do about 57mph - 64mph

It reminds me on the time when I was 14 and modified my Vespa Piagio 50cc. Before modification it run 35 mph. 250 USD later it run 36 mph.
BTW, a TaoTao 150cc scooter makes stock speed 65-70 mph depending on the driver and load. If it does it not with a driver load not more than 180 lbs, you have a warranty case. Bring it back.

I have a 2008 adly thunderbike with a jog minarelli engine stock it was a 49cc it went 53 mph now I've built the engine with a full circle race crank and 54mm big bore kit 28mm flatslide race carburetor and pod filter race cdi and prima expansion chamber exhaust plus doctor pulley race clutch and doctor pulley variator and my scooter only weighs 170 lbs and it does about 90 mph .....gy6 is 4 stroke garbage a lot of people will agree with me there cheap Chinese engine's
